How do I clip stills from a movie

I have iMovie 9.04

Unlike all earlier versions, iMovie '11 (9.0.4) does not have a feature to extract stills for use outside the program. It does of course allow you to do freeze frames for use within a project, and to add still frames from an Event. From your question, my understanding is that you wish to create a still that can be used for printing or for importing to iPhoto or other imaging program, or for other purposes.
A simple and very effective workaround is to use a free downloadable app named MPEG Streamclip, available from the developer, Squared 5, here:

In iMovie, control-click (or right-click) on the clip in the Event or Project, then select Reveal in Finder from the pop-up menu. This will take you to the source clip. Drag this clip onto Streamclip's window (this action won't move it from it's original location). Now in Streamclip, using the playhead slider and left/right arrow keys, navigate to the exact frame you wish to use, then go to the menu and select File>Export Frame - you will be given a choice of JPEG, TIFF or PNG. Adjust the Quality slider and other settings as desired, then click on Save. Type in a name and select a save location (for example, Desktop) and you're done!

The entire DVD containing Quick Time movies (Final CutExpress project) and slideshow was done in iPhoto. The Final Cut project was rendered prior to export to QT, the slideshow was sent to iDVD withoutrendering. The slideshow with most of the pictures from my still camera incombination with stills from movie clips and some downloaded from the Internet.After burning, the movie playback is perfect but the slideshow is not. The slideshow containing 3 differentkinds of pictures; those from my still camera looks OK; the stills from themovie clips and from the Internet are not. I don’t have much knowledge in this game, but I think NTSCwith frame size 720x480, and the downloaded picture Item Property shows most ofthem are between 400 to 500 x 300 to 600, may be both of them are not suitablefor TV screen while the stills from my still camera looks OK because they are2048x1536. If you really have a 720 x 576 Standard Widescreen Video 16:9 (PAR = 1.4587) and you want a jpg still capture from it using Premiere Elements 10, then I suggest the following:
Premiere Elements 10
Project Preset = PAL DV Widescreen
Place the Timeline Indicator to the frame that you want as a jpg image.
Go to

and there set Presets = DV PAL SD (it is long story, but you do not have much choice at that level), so
you could experiment with JPEG - HD 1920 x 1080 but no sure how that is going to look going from 720 x 576 to 1920 x 1080, so
Under the Advanced Button/Video Tab of that preset, set
Frame Width 1024 or 1050 pixels
Frame Width 576 pixels
Aspect = Square (1.0)
("or" relates to....if you just want a 16:9 jpg still, then 1024 will do fine. If you want a 16:9 jpg still that will present in a Premiere Elements project to fill the Edit Mode monitor, then 1050.
1024 x 576 is the square pixel version of the non square pixel version 720 x 576 widescreen which is stretched for display after encoding.
Image can resize downward if necessary. More details on that later.)
If the details of what I have suggested are too much, then just try the suggestion step by step and then let us know if it works for you. If any questions or you need clarification on anything written, please do not hesitate to ask.
If you are really dealing with a 720 x 576 4:3 standard video, we can go through that next.

I have been attempting to collect stills from QT movies and find they all have horizontal lines impairing the images. Is there any way to avoid this ?

Oh, you mean the interlacing. You can usually find an interlace free frame every few frames or so. Of course this doesn't help for fast moving content because the image you want won't be available in a few frames (it'll have moved).
I'm not at my computer right now, but there should be a deinterlace option to deinterlace. Your picture will be a bit more blurry, but that's the only thing that can be done about interlacing.

How to Create a DVD from a .mov File?

I have a .mov file of a concert and I want to make a DVD out of it. Ideally, I'd like to have full menu options just like a normal DVD. From the main menu, I'd like to have two choices: 1) being able to watch the full length concert, and 2) being able to select individual songs (much like a scene selection on a regular DVD). The .mov file is in really great quality (the concert was filmed in HD) so I'd also like to keep as much quality as possible. How can I separate my .mov file into separate chapters so I can place each individual song into the menu choices? Thanks for any help!

NOt sure what you mean by "first play." I've done the tutorials on iDVD, but still can't figure it out. Is it possible to delete a movie that in the right box, i.e., previously selected? For some reason it says i've exceeded the size of the DVD even though it's only 1.8 GB. So i want to delete it and compress what i have, but i can't get rid of what's there. I suppose i could just delete the whole iDVD file and start again, or change the file name of the movie on the HD, but that seems very unMac-like.
There's nothing in the iDVD help either on "project validation" errors or how to correct other errors. But right now a simple way to delete a movie would be helpful.

Hello All,
I am using FCP HD and I would like to know how do you make a still photo from video footage?
Also I have to burn an editing project to dvd. I don't know how to use studio pro, but the person said that it needs to be a ntsc full resolution version. I am not sure what that means.
The project is about 10 minutes long and this person had me using the H.264. I have been playing around and I think I not doing something write because when I send the project to compressor it tells me that I have like 200+ hours befoe it outputs.
Could someone give me some simple instructions using the H.264 on how to do a good large size (over 320x240) QT movie to dvd?

How do i Pate frames from one movie to the center of another? please help?!

what i am trying to do is, put a flash frame by frame movie into my flash web site. So i go to the frame by frame movie and hit Edit- Time line - Select all frames. i then hit Edit- Time line - Copy frames. i switch over to my web site, Create a new layer select the layer and hit Edit - Time line - Paste Frames. and the frames i copied are pasted into order and all my symbols are brought into my library. The problem is than when it is pasted its pasted in the upper left hand corner of the page on top of all my other stuff when i select the the frames of the frame by frame movie and move them to the center of the stage. It seems to work fine but when i test my movie the first frame will be fine and than some stuff goes back to the original pasted spot and some stuff will stay where i moved it to. my question is. How do you paste the frame by frame movie to the center of the stage so it does not have to be moved at all?
or else how do i move all frames and objects to where i want them and not just the first frame?

when you copy and paste frames, object positions will be maintained from the copied to the pasted frames.
if you want to edit multiple frames simultaneously, click edit multiple frames (an icon in the timeline panel just below frame 22, if you're using normal sized frames).

How do I delete text from a movie I did in final cut

hey guys i made a movie in final cut a while back and I want to delete some text I added to a clip but I can't seam to figuer out how to do it anyone have any ideas?

As Jim is pointing out, the best way to deal with editing the text out of an existing movie is to go back to the project and deal with the clips BEFORE the text was added.
Either that or bring the movie into AfterEffects or Shake and paint out the text on a frame by frame basis. (LOADS of fun!)

How to get a refund from a movie that did not download?

Rented a Movie... Days later, the movie is still " Processing". I have been billed for the movie, and want a refund. any ideas where to go? Seems to be very difficult to ask for money back.

You're best bet to get that refunded is to contact iTunes Support through expresslane.apple.com. From there, select iTunes as the effected product, then iTunes Store, and answer some questions, and they will email you with the info on getting that resolved for you.
