How do I combine multiple itunes libraries

I have multiple (6) itunes libraries scattered across my iMac 24", my Powerbook laptop and 2 external hard drives. Each library has different songs, playlists and meta data.  I just bought a Glyph GT062E 4TB external hard drive. I would like to merge all 6 libraries into one and put that library onto my Glyph.
I'm not worried about play counts, date added, etc. I just want ALL of my music in one place. I am concerned about duplicates and how to remove them. Also, after the consolidation is complete, what is the best way to check that I have copied all of the files from each library before deleting the old libraries?  I will make a back up of the consolidated library once it is organized and managable.

The simple solution is to go into the iTunes Music Folder on my hard drive and copy all of the songs into my External Library. Like this:
Hard Drive > Loren's Desktop > Music > iTunes Music
Similarly with your secondary library. You should be able to drag files from there to your External Drive.

  • Finding and combining multiple itunes libraries

I believe I have set up multiple itunes libraries that are located on different drives (the internal and an external). I'd like to find them and combine them into one place. Any help would be appreciated..

The .itl is simply a listing of what tracks you have selected for that library.  It does not include the music itself.  I have never imported another library so I don't know if the methods Niel outlines will actually move your music files into the same library folder or simply use them where they are. You can easily check by seeing if they have moved to the folder, or by get info on a track in iTunes and look at the information on where the actual file it uses is located.
Read the links below on what actually makes up a complete library and why combining them involves merging multiple items.

  • How do you combine two iTunes libraries - my husband I have separate iTunes libraries and want to combine our music

iTunes: my husband and I have two separate iTunes libaries and would like to combine them.  I have tried homesharing but as my laptop is not an Apple I can't seem to find advice online with Apple.
    Can anyone help.

iTunes- How to share music between different user accounts on a single computer
You cannot merge two separate libraries across user accounts. Photos does not have the function of merging different Photos.library files. If you have Aperture then you can merge the two before migrating over to Photos.

  • How do I sync multiple iTunes libraries on the same PC?

I have a desktop at home running Windows XP Pro. I have my own log-in and my wife has her log-in. We both use iTunes. We both have iTunes accounts. How can we sync our libraries such that we have one (1) shared repository?

You can have identical libraries (contents, playlists and related information) if you set each user's account to reference the same .itl file.
Have a look at this article in the Apple Knowledge Base for details on how to do so.
By using the Choose Library option and linking the accounts to the same .itl file, the libraries will be the same and changes made to one will be reflected in the others.
If you don't want completely identical Libraries but just access to the same files to build separate Libraries with, see this article .

how do you combine multiple iphoto libraries and clean up duplicates

If not the only answer is the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager -http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - and maybe duplicate annihaliator -http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/18748/duplicate-annihilator
You must have IPLM as stated - you may also need DA depending on how thing go with the merge

  • How do I consolidate multiple Itunes folders on one computer?

I had a mishap with my external hard drive (I didn't know how to use it properly..yup USER ERROR!) so I have three different Itunes folders intertwined in my music folders with different previous Itunes libraries.  I made a backup of the entire music mess on a flash drive, have a new computer and finally an ipod to put my music on...
Can someone give me some detailed steps to be able to consolidate all of my many Itunes libraries and let me know how I can access the music in my previous Itunes libraries?  I want to make sure that I still have the rights to the music that I purchased in the past.  I had some music in the Itunes cloud which is great but not nearly all of it...DRATS!
I found some steps to consolidate music from different computers onto one but I'm not sure that the same steps apply to my situation.  Here are the links that I was looking at in eHow:  http://www.ehow.com/how_5704389_consolidate-multiple-itunes-libraries.html  and  http://www.ehow.com/how_8149083_can-itunes-libraries-two-computers.html.
    Thanks so much in advance!
Itunes libraries make my brain hurt!

Import everything into one library and then dedupe it.

  • How do I put 2 iTunes libraries on 1 computer

I have two people using one computer.  How can I put 2 iTunes libraries on one computer?

My husband and I each have our own iTunes accounts/libraries on the same computer. The way we accomplished this was by having separate user logins/profiles on the computer (set up from control panel) and then when setting up the iTunes libraries, ensured that we each used our own devices in our own logins/profiles.
There is probably a way of doing this using just 1 user profile, but this was the cleanest and more straightforward way  for us and it works wonders!
FYI- it does use more memory space having multiple profiles on the computer, but it was worth it for us.
    Hope this helps!
