How do I combine my content from 3 external hd's and my 1 Mac Mini to my new Time Capsule (which is connected to my Mac Mini) and not have to use my external hd's again? My Mac Mini wont hold all the content on the external hd's.
My 3 external hd's are 500GB (total 1.5TB) and my Mac Mini is 500GB (Time Capsule is connected to this). I want to be able to have all the content from all these sources stored on my Time Capsule as if I only had 1 external drive. Is this possible? It is my understanding that when Time Machine backs up my Mac Mini I have to have my external drives connected since my Mac Mini does not have enough space on it to hold all the content on the exgternal hd's. I can only connect 1 external hard drive at a time and I want to get rid of them and consolidate.
And having to go back in time to search for files on 1 external hard drive and then back in time for the other external hard drive is not the most efficient thing to do. I would like it all in one place.

New Time Capsule: How to copy Time Machine history from previous disk?
Hi everybody,
Just got a new Time Capsule which is going to serve as my new Time Machine Back-up.
I've got a year's worth of TM back-up on my old USB disk that I'd like to pour over to the new one.
When I try to do that, it says the Time Capsule can't be changed.
If I simply select the new TC as the disc for TM it obviously starts a new "time line".
How can I either copy the old data over, or merge the two?

Robdon't try copying via finder. that won't work. directly attached TM backups are stored differently from remote ones. directly attached ones
are stored directly in a folder an the drive and the remote ones
are stored in sparse bundles. the following may work. set up the TC to be the new TM drive and start a backup. as soon as it starts stop it using TM menu->stop backup. open the TC drive in finder. there should be a sparse bundle created there. double-click on it to mount it. it should be empty.
then use the "restore" tab in disk utility to clone your old TM drive to the mounted sparse bundle. make sure to check the box to erase destination. when the cloning is finished eject the mounted sparse bundle and try backing up again. -
I got a network printer connected to a Time Capsule which extends my wireless home network. But I can't manage to find out it's IP address nor i manage to find it on the network ! Am I doing something wrong ? Is there a way to tell Time Capsule which is the IP of the network printer ?
Hope somebody can help me out !Most printers can print their status page.. on the status page is the current IP. I personally don't buy network printers that don't have a small LCD with enough menu to set things like IP address. And reveal the current IP.
Is the printer set to dhcp? If so it will get an IP from the TC.
Apple removed useful aspects of the old v5 utility which would give you a listing off all IP addresses passed out by the TC or connected to it.
You can however do a netstat scan from your computer.
In finder type in network utility into the search (apple have hidden it in a stupidly obscure location)
In network utility run a netstat scan which should pick up the printer.
One aspect of this, is that if the printer is in a deep sleep, power saving mode.. you may not pick it up.. certainly you should make sure the printer is awake and ready to run.. even if you need to reboot it.
There will be a problem if the printer is manually set to the wrong IP range.. then it won't come up at all. To fix that you will need to actually read the printer manual.. and find out how to reset it to its defaults and start again. -
How do I move my iTunes library from an external hard drive to my new Time Capsule?
I stored my 77GB of iTunes library on my six year old 1TB Time Capsule. I just bought a 2TB Time Capsule and moved the iTunes associated folders onto a WD My Passport HD. Now, I can't figure out how to get them onto my new Time Capsule. Can someone please help me?
I have a MBP that doesn't have enough hard drive space to move them from the WD hard drive onto the MBP and then onto the Time Capsule.
Isn't there a way to move the files directly from the external HD to the Time Capsule?
Thanks.You could plug the WD drive straight into the TC but it will be much faster to do it with the WD drive plugged into the computer.. and just mount the TC hard disk in Finder.
To move itunes library you must follow the Apple instructions.. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1449
You may need to reconnect itunes to the library before you try to move it.. !! -

Do you also plan to use the Time Capsule disk for Time Machine backups? If so, that approach has problems. For one, you don't be backing up your music library. For another, eventually Time Machine will consume all the space on that disk, which will cause problems for your music. -
My Mac notebook does no longer recognise my external keyboard which was connected by a USB cable. I have checked the keyboard on other Mac notebooks and it works fine. Any suggestions?

External drive conntected to Time Capsule keeps losing connection
I've been having this problem since I bought my TC over one year ago. Other than this everything works fine (aside from the occasional need for a restart).
I have an external 500GB drive attached to my 500GB TC via usb. I use the TC strictly for backups and the other drive to host my media files. When I want to use those files I switch on the drive. Only about half of the time does that work. When it does work everything is fine. I see the drive in the finder as expected.
When it doesn't work, I can see the drive name in the finder. But if I click to go into the folder, I get an error saying that the connection cannot be found.
It shows up in the Airport Utility as normal.
Powering the drive off and on does not help.
Relaunching the finder doesn't help either.
The only way I can connect to the drive again is to either logoff and log back into my mac, or restart the TC.
It seems that my computer is remembering some kind of network disk mounting settings that don't get refreshed when I turn on the drive, but then do get refreshed when I logoff and back in. Does anyone know how I could force that refresh to happen? Has anyone had this problem before?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated
PS all my software and firmware are the latest.

I am new MAC user recently converted from PC. I have a Macbook Air 2013 and the new time capsule 2013 as well.
I did connect my external HDD (i.e. 1.5T Seagate HDD) in the Time Capsule USB port.
I went into the utility Airport Application to make sure "File sharing box is checked".
I went in Finder to look for my HDD and no sign of it...
I read many many discussions looking for the answer on how to make my External HDD (previously used on my PC laptop) appear on my MacBook Air throught my home network, but without success. From Apple website, it seams to be an easy task...!
Finally, I have read stuff about how the HDD is formatted. Could it be the reason?

It surely is at least a major factor.. maybe several are involved.
You cannot see a disk formatted NTFS.. ie standard windows format from TC.
The disk must be plugged into the Mac and open disk utility..
You need to change the partition over to GUID from MBR.. and change the format to Mac OS extended Journaled.. or HFS+
Although FAT32 is also supposed to work.. that will lead to other issues.. don't do it.
If you format a drive with data on it.. your data is gone.. just to make sure you know that.
You can plug the drive into the computer and copy the data to another location.. and then format the drive.. and copy it back.. if you have an air without the Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter this will take aprox 1month to achieve. -
How do I migrate multiple sparsebundles from my old time capsule to my new time capsule?
My old 1tb time capsule died on me last week. I bought a new 2tb model. I have put the old disk in an enclosure and I can access the data on it.
The old time capsule was used to backup three Mac's. How do I migrate the three sparebundles to the new time capsule? I want to keep all the backup histories.
I found lots of sites with tips but they all assume that the old TC was used to backup only one Mac.
I run Lion on my main Mac and all time machines were configured to backup via wireless.It worked. Kinda. I think.
I did the steps outlined in option 3. It took 2,5 days to do it (maybe because I had already switched to wireless).
Once the copy of the files was complete I actived time machine and selected the new time capsule as my backup. It said there was no backup history. But then it started backuping. Instead of the full disk (as I thought it would do, as it said there was no backup history) it only did about 35Gb. Which was what I had expected. I had just upgraded to Lion. After that backup it immediatly started again and did a backup of 40 Mb. (Why ???).
After that was done I started time machine and all the old backups were there (eg 2010) as a test I restored a file from Jan 2010. And it worked.
So now the other two sparsebundles to do.

It is generally better to leave the old backups and start again.. unless there is something you particularly need.
But if you desperately want all the old backups you have to copy the sparse bundles.. this will take very long time as it must copy via the computer..

You'll need to provide some more information .... what current mac mini do you have? Click on the apple in the left corner of the menu bar, click about this mac, and what does it say for processor, memory, and os x version?
When you say you have no DVD, do you have the mac mini server or is the DVD broken?
You can't do anything with 10.6 Snow Leopard on a PowerPC mini, however, if it is an Intel-based mini, you could probably hook up the systems in target disk mode to install 10.6. -

If you move live files (files you don't want to lose) to an external drive, you need to back them up. Any files not backed up are at risk of loss. Hard drives and SSDs can fail at any time. It is hard to backup a Time Capsule so a TC should be used only as a backup device.
Do you have a Time Machine backup now? If so, and if it is large enough, you can backup your internal and external disk to it using Time Machine. If not, you all need to purchase an external drive or TC as your backup device. (I recommend an external hard drive for backup instead of a TC.) Ideally the backup drive should be twice the size of what you are backing up but 50% larger will work so if you have an external 1 TB disk and an internal 250 GB SSD then a 2 TB backup disk will work well.
By default, Time Machine will not backup the external disk. You need to remove it from the exclusions list:
To have Time Machine backup your system disk and your external offload disk up onto your Time Machine disk:

My Time Capsule has been backing up without any problems and all of a sudden it stops reading on my computer. The external hard drive beeps three times and the motter wont run within. The light that usually blinks while in use is no longer blinking and is on constant. What happened?

Sorry we are unclear as to the external hard drive and its connection to the TC..
For instance the light that blinks.. is that the TC or external hard disk or what.
Did you try just rebooting / restart the whole network in correct order.. modem.. router / TC.. external drive.. clients with 2min gap between each.
Are you actually running Snow Leopard as the profile states?
How old is the TC? -
