How do I Configure Desktop Printer to scale to fit?

I love the feature of drag and drop printing and I often need to print many pdfs. However when I drag pdfs to the desktop printer icon it prints them on letter sized paper without scaling them to fit. I have configured the printer in the setup utility to print on tabloid but it still prints on letter with no scaling. How can I configure the desktop printer to scale to fit and select paper size? booya

Hi Daniel, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Doesn't your printer have a setting for the default size in it rather than just on the Mac?
What size are these in the first place?
I think the secret is to save the Tabloid size as a Default, but I don't have a Tabloid to test with, so I used Preview, (which you may end up having to use to drop on or Script to, dunno yet).
I made a new Page size of Tabloid...
Then saved as default...
You'll have to test this... not even sure it works to Scale to Size, but at least you could drop them on Preview then +p to see.

  • How can I configure a printer which is connected to a Windows PC

How can I configure a printer which is connected to a Windows PC.
I have a I-Mac with OSX lion ver 10.7.2 installed.
The printer is a Canon IP4200.

The first thing you need to ensure is that the printer is being shared by Windows. Hopefully you know how to do that but if not, reply with the version of Windows you are using.
With the printer shared by Windows you then add the printer on the iMac by opening Print & Scan and clicking the plus button under the Printers list. With the Add Printer browser displayed you can select the Windows icon. A window appears showing three columns. The first column is for the workgroup name. You may already see a names here such as Workgroup or MSHome. Selecting the workgroup the Windows computer is using will then show the computer name. And selecting the computer name will show the shared printer, although you may need to enter your Windows user name and password to see this printer share. Select this printer share name will then let you select the printer driver to be used on the Mac. Note that you will not be able to use Canon's driver for this, as it is not designed to work with a shared printer from Windows. Instead you will need to download and install Gutenprint. This will provide you with another iP4200 printer in the Print Using menu and this version will let you print via the Windows share.
If you don't see the workgroups on your local network or the computer name, or something else does not function as described above then please reply with details of what is not happening.

  • HT4356 How can I configure the printer to print only grey tones from my iPad 2? Printer=Hp6520

How can I configure printer with iPad to print only grey tones? This works fine from my laptop - not air printing from that one though.  I can't find anywhere on the iPad how to do printer settings and this also seems not to be available as an option when doing a printout.  In fact, no options seem to be available.  Thanks in advance for reacting!

There is currently no option for this. You can give Apple feedback here:

  • MacBook Air How do you configure a printer?

We have used iPrint on our old fully patched (including iprntnw65sp8f.zip) server for years. Win2k/XP/7 clients, both secured and unsecured printing with only 2 printers. I have used IE to upload printer drivers for Windows clients, but cannot for the life of me work out how you go about setting up a printer for a MacBook Air (with latest OS X version), I've never even used a Mac before yesterday.
I have managed to get the iPrint client installed (v5.76) but there are no drivers installed on the server so I can't install any printers.
I can't log in to iManager from the MAC as the browser (chrome) isn't supported so I can't upload the drivers (I have managed to get the drivers installed manually on the Mac from the internet).
I have turned off Sandboxing in CUPS after reading in another thread about it causing issues in the latest OSX version.
I've tried manually adding a printer (address: our IP address, protocol: Internet Printing Protocol - IPP, Queue: /ipp/Ricoh) which seems to talk to the server for something as it fills in the Location field but printing just hangs.
I only have one Mac, all I need to do is install iPrint (think this is done) point it to an existing printer and link it to an already installed local driver, can anyone guide me through it? Mac specifics in the docs all I could find was installing the iprint client, nothing about setting up printers. I've even tried uploading a ppd to the server using iprntcmd -u but that fails as well.
Any help would be gratefully received.

How much HD space should I partition for Windows vs.
Mac? I want to only run Office apps in Windows and
everything else (e-mail, internet, file management)
    from the Mac.
    I would say 10GB minimum.
Should I partition the Windows HD as FAT32 or NTFS?
Either Windows XP can be installed on wither a FAT32 or an NTFS partition.
However FAT32 has the advantage that the Mac will be able to read/write to the partition.
With NTFS the Mac will only be able to read the partition.
Note that when booted into Windows it won't be able to read or write the Mac partition unless it has installed MacDrive or similar.
Can I open an Office app from an e-mail attachment
from the Mac side without having Office Mac (i.e. do
I need two versions of Office -- Office Mac and
    Windows Office)?
You would need to boot into Windows to open certain Office files using Office for Windows or use the methods already mentioned.
Two versions of Office might be an option.
Another thing you may want to consider rather than use Boot Camp is to use Parallels

  • How do I configure a printer to use duplex all the time

As with most companies, ours is on a push to go greener.  The IP department has decided that one thing that can be done is to encourage the use of duplex printers.  We have one, but from the Mac you must go in and specifically select printing on both sides somewhere in the print screen for each app.  Is there a way in the setup of the printer to make duplex printing the default?

Try using the web interface to the printing system.  Go to http://127.0.0.1:631/printers/ and click on your printer.  Use the Administration pop up menu and select Set Default Options.  Find the section that contains the Duplex option, turn it on or specify whether you want long or short edge binding.  When you save the changes, you will have to enter your administrator's username and password.

  • Excel file won't scale to fit page

We have just installed a new copier, a Ricoh MP C4503, that repaced essentially an earlier version of the product.
We have a user with an Excel for Mac 2011 xls file, that when he selected an area and printed with scale to fit, printed full page on 11 x 17. But now the spreadhseet comes out looking shrunk on the page, perhaps as thought it would look if printed fully on 8.5 x 11 but I'm just guessing.
If I print this file on another Mac,with essentially the same OS (or several other versions of OSX on several other Macs we have in the office) using the same copier, it prints as desired, a beautiful fullpage 11x17 spreadsheet.
It is only on his MBP (with latest updates I might add) that this problem is occurring, so I think it must be a problem with his OS, his printer driver, or his Excel installation, and I would remind, it printed fine before the new printer/copier came along.
I have tried a barrage of possible solutions until I'm bleary-eyed: multiple tweaks of the settings in sys prefs, printer features, page setup, print area, deleting and reinstalling driver, and more.
    Help?

    Wrong place to ask perhaps?

  • How do I configure my Airport Extreme to see the printer I have plugged into the USB port?

How do I configure my Airport Extreme to see the printer I have plugged into the USB port?

OK. The 6.0 version no longer has a printer configuration that I could find. You might try Printer Sharing in the Sharing preferences.
I would also check the printer's user manual for help with the setup, and that failing check the manufacturer's website and/or tech support.

  • How do I configure an IP Printer that requires a user code?

Hi, I am using my Macs in a shared office environment where we have a Ricoh printer accessible via an IP address. The instructions for configuring the printer are written for Windows Vista and Windows XP users (sigh). I am able to add the printer by typing in its IP address, and I get a list of some printer options. But apparently this printer requires clients to log in with a user code before starting a print job and therefore my print commands from my Mac don't get processed. How do I do this from Leopard?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    DXB Law wrote:
Yes, I am aware that it is my own IT management that requires the user code, not the printer,
I only mentioned it because there are many people that think it is all "the printer's fault" that they need a user code.
and my IT management has given me step-by-step instructions for how to configure Windows Vista to transmit that user code to the printer. But it seems that you are saying there is no configuration option in Leopard that allows for the transmission of a user code to a network printer?
I don't know enough about Windows to comment on the different way things are handled. In the case of the Ricoh printers, the user code is submitted with the print job. PCL printers include PJL data along with the job. For PostScript printers, Ricoh does supply drivers with printer extensions that allow for the user to input their user code via the normal user interface.
For non-PostScript network printers, Ricoh uses either a PCL 5 variant or PCL 6/PCL XL. There are several generic drivers for these printer languages, so users on most, if not all, other operating systems can print to the Ricoh printers. Further, Ricoh actually provides the PPDs for their printers that include all the extra functions (user codes, stapling, etc) that are available for a particular model. These PPDs get included in the OpenPrinting foomatic database. That way users of any system that can utilize the foomatic scheme will be able to print to Ricoh printers. This is not limited to Mac OS X. Foomatic supports CUPS, LPRng, LPD, GNUlpr, Solaris LP, PPR, PDQ, and CPS. It would be nearly impossible to write a specific graphical user interface for all the variants of Unix and Linux. That is why you must resort to editing a PPD file by hand.
You may be able to eventually help other Mac OS X users by letting Ricoh tech support politely know that it would be *most helpful* to have an easy to use user interface to input your user code. With there being more and more Mac OS X users, I hope they will do something to keep their customers happy.
Just remember, there are some manufacturers that still use proprietary printer languages for network printers. If they don't support your system, tough luck.
