How do i connect my mac mini to a kvm switch using the hdmi to dvi adapter?

I want to connect my Mac Mini using the HDMI to DVI adapter to a KVM switch cable. I have an Iogear KVM switch. The cable from the KVM switch has a male VGA end connection. I have been trying to determine the right adapter to connect the female DVI connection to the male VGA connector. I will be using the Mac mini and a PC running through the KVM switch. This is doable as the iogear switch is compatible with both a PC and a Mac. Any ideas out there? Thank you.

You would need to get  HDMI or DVI to VGA CONVERTER, not a simple adopter. The converter requires USP connection for power. HDMI is only digital while VGA is analogue.

If your MIni has a mini displayport or Thunderbolt port yu can get a les expensive mini displayport to VGA afopter.

  • 2011 Mac Mini and Acer x222w monitor incompatible? HDMI to DVI adapter issue

I am totally bummed because I just bought a new Mac Mini thinking I'd be able to use the display from my old system, an Acer x222w, which has both DVI-D and VGA connections. I hooked the monitor up using the HDMI to DVI adapter included in the box with the Mini. On boot, I could see the Apple logo, though it was not centered, and when the set up screen came up to the select language screen, it flashed quickly and then turned to snow.
I was on the phone with Apple support for over an hour trying to troubleshoot this issue. I was a little disappointed that tech support didn't even seem to  be aware that the Mini came with an HDMI to DVI adapter. It was then recommended that I try an adapter for the mini display port, which the 2011 Mini doesn't have.
I was able to borrow another monitor, a Dell with DVI-D, and it worked.
I have searched for specs/requirements that might explain why the Acer monitor doesn't work while the Dell one does. I cannot find anything from Apple. I just assumed any DVI connection would work. Has anybody else encountered this problem? Most of the issues I've found on the forums involve trying to hook up to a home theater LCD TV, which I'm not trying to do. If I had known my monitor wouldn't work, I probably would have just saved up for an iMac.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts or tips!

  • Mac Mini Newbie + Viewsonic VX2450WM monitor.  Need HDMI to DVI adapter?  What cords needed?

    Mac Mini Newbie here.
Getting the Viewsonic VX2450WM monitor for it. There is no HDMI on this monitor, but reviews said it's Mac mini compatible.
Do I need to get an additional cord?  HDMI to DVI adapter cable? Does the supplied short white cord inside Mac Mini packaging suffice?
    Thank you!

No, the HDMI on Mini only support digital VGA is analogue
Can the HDMI port drive analog displays (VGA displays for example) using adapters?
No.  The HDMI port will drive digital connections—such as DVI—using the adapter that came with the Mac mini, but cannot be used for analog displays such as VGA. You can purchase a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter separately to drive analog displays.

Based on your description, you are having a kernel panic.
Can you post some of your crash logs? Might be a clue. See Mac OS X: How to log a kernel panic http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2546
Understanding crash logs isn’t easy and it’s hard (sometimes impossible) to decipher the cause of the problem. Take a look at Apple’s Crash Reporter document at http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2004/tn2123.html Also look at Tutorial: An introduction to reading Mac OS X crash reports

Kernel panics are usually caused by a hardware problem – frequently RAM, a USB device or a Firewire device. What external devices do you have connected? When trying to troubleshoot problems, disconnect all external devices except your monitor, keyboard and mouse. Do you experience the same problems?
To eliminate RAM being the problem, Look at this link: Testing RAM @ http://guides.macrumors.com/Testing_RAM Then download & use Memtest & Ramber.
Do you have an Apple Hardware Test disc (the AHT is on the Install/Restore DVD that came with your Mac)? Running the Apple Hardware Test in Loop Mode is an excellent troubleshooting step for finding intermittent hardware problems. It is especially useful when troubleshooting intermittent kernel panics. If Loop Mode is supported by the version of the Apple Hardware Test you are using, you run the Extended Test in Loop Mode by pressing Control-L before starting the test. Looping On should appear in the right window. Then click the Extended Test button. The test will run continuously until a problem is found. If a problem is found, the test will cease to loop, indicating the problem it found. If the test fails, be sure to write down the exact message associated with the failure. In some cases, RAM problems did not show up until nearly 40 loops, so give it a good run.
May be a solution on one of these links.

  • I want to connect a Mac mini to a Samsung 40", Whats the best way to do this?

I want to connect a Mac mini to a Samsung 40" LED tv to use as the monitor, whats the best way of doing this?

Understand that there is one HDMI port on your TV that is specifically designated for PC connectivity. The order that the TV or Mini are powered on may determine your results. For your specific TV model, check buyer reviews on Amazon or elsewhere that can include optimum TV/Computer settings adjustment for improved viewing results.

  • How do I connect a mac mini to my G5?

Hi I wondered if anybody could give me some advice. I have a G5 at home running CS - the first version. My boss at work has just bought a mac mini for me and I've installed CS4 - the mini is connected to a random HP monitor at work. I wanted to bring the mini home so I can continue work there and I was hoping to connect it the my G5. Does anybody know what components I need to get and how to do it, if it's possible?
    Thanks

The easiest way to do this would be over your network - as long as both are on the same subnet, they just simply see each other in the finder (this varies depending on what OS you have. Are both running 10.5) ?

  • How do I connect my Mac Mini (DVI) to a monitor (VGA) and 2 TV's (HDMI)?  What equipment do I need?

I have an older Mac Mini with a DVI out.  Right now using a monitor with VGA in, and since my Mini came with the adapter, all is good.  However, I'm trying to use this setup to also connect 2 50" TV's that have HDMI's.  What would be the proper setup in order to run the mini and the monitor along with the TV's?  Thanks!

  • How do you connect lines for a drawing in order to use the live paint bucket tool?

Hello! Im fairly new (okay not really) to using adobe illustrator
I used the Image trace tool to outline this drawing of Captain America but unfortunately the lines arent connected and therefore
messes up my colouring completely when I use the Live Paint Bucket tool.
Is there a way to connect the lines so they are closed when I colour it? Or is there another way to color this drawing?
    Help would be greatly appreciated!

Those gaps are very wide. Draw some paths and apply no fill, no stroke to them.
Then make the live paint. In case the live paint already exists, you can go into isolation mode and then draw the paths. Or draw them and use Object > Live paint > Merge

  • Static using HDMI to DVI adapter on 2011 mini

    Hi,
I bought my first Mac last week, the i5 2.3ghz mini.  I originally set it up on my TV (using HDMI), downloaded/installed the updates, and messed around a bit before deciding that a 42 inch display isn't as convenient as I thought it would be.
Using the HDMI to DVI adapter that came with the mini I hooked it up to my 19 inch acer monitor.  While booting  can see the boot screen, but the display is very staticy.  Once it logged in I was able to barely see well enough past the static to mess around with the display settings thinking that maybe the mini was trying to push an unsupported resolution to my monitor (because I set it up on my TV at 1080p).
I read up on the issue and it seems that some have had problems with static while waking up from sleep.  Mine has static all the time.
By a stroke of luck I happened to have a HDMI to DVI cable on hand.  I tried it out and it displayed beautifully.  No static, works as I expected.
So the problem seems to be the adapter that came with the mini, the DVI cable that I was originally using (the cable works with my PC), or the HDMI port on the mini itself not working well with Apple's own adapter (not likely).
I was just wondering if anybody else has had this issue, and if they fixed it did it end up being the adapter or did replacing the DVI cable with a higher quality cable do the trick.
    Thanks,
    Corey

I just posted a similar issue here. The weird thing is that on my system, a Dell monitor works with the HDMI-DVI adapter but the Acer monitor doesn't. Do you think getting another adapter would resolve it fo rme? What kind worked for you?

  • HT4614 how do I connect a mac cinema display to a mac mini

Is it possible to connect both an Apple 30" HD cinema display and an Apple 23" cinema display to a Mac Mini and use both as dual monitors?

Yes with the current Mac Mini.  Connect the 23" to the Mac Mini's HDMI port with the HDMI to DVI adapter that came with the Mac Mini.
If the 23" display uses ADC (Apple Display Connector)
    <http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/09/AppleDisplayConnector.jpg>
you will also need a DVI to ADC adapter.
    <http://www.amazon.com/Apple-DVI-ADC-Display-Adapter/dp/B00011KHT2>
Connect the 30" display to the Thunderbolt port with a Mini DisplayPort to DUAL-LINK DVI adapter.

  • HDMI to DVI adapter not allowing full resolution when using Mac OS but does with Windows 8.1

I have a Mac Mini and using the HDMI to DVI cable that came with the computer the maximum resolution it will allow is 1280 x 1024. I have 2 of the same monitors. The other is connected with DisplayPort to VGA adapater and displays full resolution (1920 x 1080) on both monitors but the HDMI to DIV will only show 1280 x 1024.  I thought maybe it was my DVI cable or the adapter but when I boot up in Windows 8.1 through bootcamp both monitors display at full 1920 x 1080 resolution. Why does Windows give me the option for full resolution on both but the Mac OS doesn't? All the latest updates have been installed. I've contacted support and all the things they had me do didnt work. I see all these posts with people complaining about the same resolution issues. Is it that difficult for this to work?

Humm... the dual Samsung 21.5" monitor setup on my 2010 Mac Mini running Mavericks works a expected. One is on the HDMI to DVI adapter and the other in on a Kanex Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter.
Try > Display Menu from the Mac App Store and see if you can select 1920 x 1080 for both monitors using it.
Addtitionally, are you sure that it the HDMI to DVI monitor that is not getting the correct resolution...? Most people are complaining that it is a VGA connected monitor that is not getting the correct resolution.
If it turns out to be VGA connected monitor, then try using a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter and DVI cable for that monitor instead of VGA.
