How do i connect to a network printer or map a network drive?

I have a MacPro on my work network and can only attach to the networked printer via IP address. The printer driver is on the print server and I have a path name but I do not know where in my MAC to input the network path/drive.

First install the printer driver on your Mac.  Then add the printer in System Preferences > Print & Scan.  Beyond that, specific settings for the printer & protocol depend on the printer & network.  You may need to call your helpdesk for assistance.  Exactly what  make/model printer is it, and how is it set up on your network?

How do you connect a canon wireless printer up to a iPad 2nd generation?

Read this to see if your printer model supports Airprint: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
If your printer is not Airprint capable you may need an App to print, for example PrintCentral, etc.

how do i connect to the network off my itunes? its saying theres no interenet connection even though there is

Yes and I do understand that! Thank you. There is no option to do an auto channel. Its 1-11 or 36, 40, 44 or 48. Then when it asks for a security its 40 bit WPA or 128 bit WPA. Unsure what that means? If I choose either of those Security options I have to have a certain number of characters for my password, and neither of those options fit the password that was given to me.
    Any suggestions?

  • CS6 Bridge Running in Background after connecting to a networked drive?

I have been having a problem with Bridge running in the background after connecting to a networked drive on a server. I can open and use the program fine, but when I close it still is running in the background until closed via Task Manager. Once the process is removed I can once again open Bridge. I found that holding Ctrl and clicking the Bridge icon and resetting my preferences allows me to open and close bridge once again, until I connect to a networked drive. Anything local on the computer things work fine, but as soon as I head over to a server Bridge wants to continue running in the background. I am assuming it is having trouble closing its connection to the networked drive and stays open.  I do have other computers on the network with CS5 and they do not have this issue.
Any ideas on how to correct this?
Computer is a Windows 7 64 bit platform.

They were using the little red "x", file > quit allowed her to reopen the program etc. I find it weird that it wont close with the "x" but if I right click the icon on the task bar, it wont allow me to reopen or do anything with it so I was under the assumption it was stuck open.

  • How do I connect an ethernet network printer?

I'm trying to connect to an ethernet printer (Xerox WorkCentre 7428) on my LAN using a new Airport Extreme. I've tried connecting the ethernet cable via a switch, and also connecting directly into the ethernet ports on the Airport with no success.

From Xerox's manual for that printer:
To see the IP address of the printer, press the Machine Status button on the printer control panel. The IP address is displayed on the left of the touch screen.
    More from Xerox's support site:
Solution : Configure the Printer to Automatically Obtain an IP Address (From a DHCP Server) From the Control Panel
Login as the System Administrator or Key Operator. See the Related Items below for additional information.
Press the [Machine Status) button on the control panel.  The Machine Status tab will be displayed on the Touch Screen.
    Select the [Tools] tab.
    Select the [System Settings] button.
Select the [Connectivity and Network Settings] option from the Group section.
Select the [Protocol Settings] option from the Features section.
Select [IPv4- IP address Resolution], and then select the [Change Settings] button.
Select [DHCP], and then select the [Save] button.
    Select the [Close] button.
Press the [Log In / Out] button on the Control Panel. A "Do you want to reboot the machine now for settings to take effect?" message will be displayed.
Select the [Reboot Now] button on the Touch Screen.
Assigning the printer a static IP address (that is, one not assigned using DCHP) consistent with your AirPort Extreme's addressing scheme is preferable for printers. Instructions describing that very fundamental task are annoyingly absent from its manual though. At Step 8 in the above, see if there is an option for a static IP address. Specify one as I described earlier.

  • How do I connect my HP 2545 printer to iPhone?

I bought HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 2540 All-In-One-Series today, and I was able to connect with my pc, but how do i connect it to my iPhone?

    Hi @nancy0526
I would like to help you print from your iPhone.
AirPrint is a mobile printing solution included with the Apple iOS v4.2 mobile operating system version and later.
iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch users can print wirelessly to any ePrint-enabled HP printer that is connected to the same local wireless network. Most HP printers released in 2010 and later support AirPrint.
Many Apple apps support AirPrint, including Safari, Mail, Photos, and iWorks. Additionally, other popular apps available in the App Store are supported. In the app, tap the Action icon ( or  ), and then tap Print to print with AirPrint.
This information and more can be found in the following HP document; How to Use Apple's AirPrint Over a Wireless Network.
    I hope this helps.

  • Power Mac Dual 1.8 Ghz: How do I connect to wireless network?

    HELP!!!
I have this Power Mac Dual 1.8 Ghz with 10.4.11 OS. I used to use wire cable to connect the internet, but now the place I rent recently only provides wireless network. I was able to connect wireless network with my Windows Laptop.
Question: How do I connect my Dual 1.8 OS 10.4.11 with wireless network? I only see Internal Modern, Built-in Ethernet and Build-in FireWire options.

You can go the OWM route and get the airport extreme card and antenna

Google the part numbers for more vender choices,
Or, you need to get a PCI WiFi card and antenna. BDAqua or Japamac have posted alternatives which are actually a little cheaper than the Apple parts.
The third alternative is a USB-based wireless adapter.

  • I have an iPod Touch but I currently don't have a PC.  I found an app that would allow me to connect to my network drive and I was able to transfer music files to it.  These files do not show under the Music app and I can't find any way to do it.

I need help from some Apple people. I have an iPod Touch and I wanted to load it up with some fresh music but I currently don't have a PC. I found an app that would allow me to connect to my 2TB network drive directly and I was able to transfer a bunch of music files to the iPod. Unfortunately, these new files do not show under the Music app and I can't seem to find any way to convince the iPod that they are music. I can play them through the file manager only. Android doesn't have this problem, any music I put on my phone is recognized as music and can be played through any of the music apps. Am I missing something or is Apple to inflexible to handle this?

You can't. The only way to get songs in the Music app is to sync from a computer or to download from iTunes.

  • Can I connect to a network drive on powerup/login?

I am trying to automate backups with psyncx, and want to specify a network drive which sits on an old networked pc's usb port. At the moment, I have to go in finder, click on network, get to the destination drive I want and then it shows up in finder. After all this I can use psyncx and kick off the backup. Is there any way to have this connection happen automatically on login (and if the drive is not present just have it timeout or something?) kind of like nfs mount I guess... but with a network drive sitting on a pc not running samba or anything.
    Thanks,
    Farshid

    Hi.
Try this: Once the network drive is mounted on the Desktop, go to System Preferences/Accounts/Login Items, and drag the drive to the items list. You will have to save the access password for the PC in the Keychain.
    Good Luck.

  • My iMac won't connect to my network drive

I have a Buffalo network drive on my network.  It is already connected to my PC laptops.  I have installed the necessary software, but it will connect through the finder, but it will not go further than the "share" folder.  I have pictures and iTunes music I would like to move over to my Western Digital drive that will be solely used for my Mac...what can I do?  I have Mac OS X 10.7.3

    Hi Eric,
Parallels is probably just an update, but it runs very slowly anyway so the major thing is getting the WD to connect.  I can't see it in Finder, it won't see it on the network, it's like it's not physically there.  All other Mac's (some newer, mine is a 2010 model) in the office can connect as before.
    Thanks for all help!

  • How do I send Windows-friendly network drive links using Mail (in Tiger)?

I'm in an office with mostly Windows users (and Windows NT servers). Most folks use Windows email applications such as Outlook and Outlook Express. I use Apple Mail 2.1.3 (753.1) in Tiger v10.4.11. But I want to send links within my emails to files on our various network drives and have the receiving Windows/Outlook users click the links to automatically open the various files, but I can't get this to work. Any ideas on how to format the network links so they work this way?
I don't log into the network drives normally until I want to access things, perhaps I should. But I've tried this and still no go.

Thanks, but I've tried this in a variety of ways, none of which seem to work. So there's more detail required. Here's some background and examples of what I've tried without success.
The Windows WORKGROUP is, say, "JAMESCORP" - but what's the equivalent in Apple networking to a Workgroup? And does this even matter? It seems to not matter?
The Windows drives are mapped on Windows machines as, say, F: G: H: I: etc... But I don't know what the equivalent concept of mapping drives is on an Apple (more on smb, below). I typically don't map Windows' network drives (I use VMWare Fusion) on the Windows side since I did not like the constant Windows messages reminding me each time I'm out of the office that it can't find the Drive F:. Then it can't find Drive G: - etc. ad infinitum. What a pain.
On the Apple side, I use Finder's command-K to smb into the server that contains all the partitioned drives. In the smb list, the drive names are, say, mapp-cdrv and mapp-ddrv etc (which, in Windows map to F: and G: respectively).
So when you type "servername" - I'm lost regarding just what the servername should really be? Is it:
    a) F: (which does not work for a Windows user once it's delivered via Apple Mail to an Microsoft Outlook email) So this seems to not be the proper servername - or if it is, there's a translation happening in the delivery mechanism that makes it not work. (I "Add Hyperlink" from the Edit menu to get the link into an Apple Mail message.)
    b) mapp-cdrv (which works on an Apple, but when sent to a Windows machine's email (e.g., Outlook) does not work - so this isn't it. This servername is not something the Windows machines understand
    c) cifs://workgroup;""me@<ip address of server>/mapp-cdrv (which, again, doesn't work on a Windows machine once sent thru Apple Mail).
I've tried a variety of other permutations of "servername" - both Windows-like server names and Apple-like server names - but none seem to work once delivered the way I'm delivering the links (thru Apple Mail to Outlook.)
Any other ideas? Thanks for the help! ; )

  • How do I connect my iPad to a Seagate External Wireless Hard Drive?

Hi - I have a first generation iPad, IOS 5.1. I am trying to connect to a Wireless Hard Drive. My iPad sees the Wireless Device but I can't connect to that network. I can connect to the network using my Android phone. I also can't download the Seagate App - I receive an error saying I must have at least IOS 6.0. Is there a way around this problem?

If Seagate made an older version of the App that runs on iOS 5 you may be able to get it by Downloading the incompatible App to a computer running iTunes or another Device that can run the iOS 6 version, and then looking for the App in the Purchased Tab of the App Store App on the older iPad.
Assuming you use the same Apple ID on both devices.

  • Need Help Connecting to my Network Drive

Hello all. I have a Buffalo TeraStation network drive. I have it connected via ethernet to my Airport Extreme. It doesn't show up at all on my shared drives when I select "network" from the finder menu. I have all the checkboxes enabled that would show the drive on the desktop or left pane of the windows.
Just out of curiosity I connected the drive to my Mac's ethernet port and it still doesn't show. Any idea?
I have a Mac Desktop Pro running Leopard.
    Thanks;
    Henry

Ok, I feel like a dummy; but happy enough to report I figured it out on my own.
Apparently AirPort Extreme assigned another IP (10.XX.XX.XX) versus my prior (192.XX.XX.XX). I only discovered this when I scrolled through the Terastation Pro display. It scrolls through the varying settings.
Once I realized a new IP was present, I used the "Go" "Connect to Server" commands.
Works great. Maybe someone will learn something from my own lesson.
