How do I convert HDV 1080p25 to HDCAM

Hi all,
I was working the backup camera on a music video. The DOP was using a Sony F750 HDCAM and I was on a Canon XHA1 ( 25f).
They producers have asked my to deliver in the same format as the main camera. I was intend to simply transcode out of quicktime but i can't find a setting for HDCAM, any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Declan

HDCAM isn't a codec...it is a tape format. One that you can output to in a variety of ways. 720p23.98, 29.97, 59.94...1080i60, 1080psf 23.98. YOu need to ask them what format the other footage is so that you can output to match. Then you will need an HD Capture card to output the signal to the HDCAM deck...and really you should take it to a post facility that has an HDCAM deck because they are complicated as all get out. (I never do the output, I take it to a place and sit back and let them do it).
If they captured the footage already, ask them what format they want the footage from you for it to match. We are the LAST people to ask about this.

  • How best to convert HDV to DV

    What is the best method to convert HDV to DV and crop the edges? (not widescreen)

    Hi,
    Have you tried using Compressor?
    You can just make up a new setting, with your crop settings, save it so you have easy access to it in the future. And just load in all your video then do a batch convert and leave it overnight or over weekend.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I convert HDV 60i to 50i?

    Hi,
    I picked up a Canon HV20 when I was in Taiwan and it shoots in 60i. Now I am back in the UK I have an XHA1 which shoots in 50i. What is the best way to convert some of my 60i footage to 50i so that I can use it with my final 50i output. Thanks.
    Keep it mellow, B.

    I have done this type of frame rate conversion using a variation on the "bonsai method" - putting the 60i clips into 50i sequences and exporting new media. Either way you do it your clips will no longer match the tape TC, but that's to be expected. Anyway, this usually results in repeated or skipped frames when it converts the frame rate, skipped frames in your case. Usually about 5 skips per second, which can sometimes be noticeable depending on the type of motion in the frame. Since these occur at regular intervals, they can be so noticeable as to be distracting. You can adjust the render settings in your output conversion sequences to attempt to smooth this out further - under Video Processing - Motion Filtering Quality.
    I'm not sure if that would work as well as using Compressor's frame controls to give you smoother frame blending. I would expect Compressor to do a very good job with this. Some other advantages to using Compressor are the ablility to batch process the source clips from the finder, and letting it run in the background while you are using FCP. Turning on the frame controls will greatly increase the time it takes to process the clips - the setting to change here again is the rate conversion - the resize controls can bbe left at the fastest settings since you aren't resizing the frame.
    I have also use Cinema Tools to simply conform the clips to a new frame rate. This works great for going from 24 to 25 or back, but the 18% slowdown created by the 30 to 25 converison makes the audio sound really weird (this process simply changes the plyback frame rate without converting the frames at all, and pitch-shifts the audio to match.)
    Hope this helps -

  • How do I "cross convert" HDV to DVCProHD

    I hear and read a lot lately about converting HDV to DVCPro HD.
    I have a CANON XH A1 and I'm wondering, where I go to read how to convert during capture or otherwise to DVCProHD?
    Note: Per Shane, I edited the title to "Cross convert" from "Down convert".

    Well, dont' call it DOWN CONVERTING. It is really CROSS converting.
    Best way? Get a capture card like the Kona LHe and connect it to the camera via the component outs. It has those, right? I know the XL H1 has HD SDI, and that the A1 doesn't. But does it have Component outs?
    Where to read about it? Go to www.creativecow.net. Sign up for the magazine, then download issue #2. Jerry Hofmann goes into detail about how and why.

  • Converting a HDV project to HDCAM?

    I have a project that I am finishing in FCS2 - I used the Apple HDV codec. I need to convert it to HDCAM but know nothing about the process. I didn't see anything in the forum. Could anyone tell me what I need to do to convert?
    Thanks!

    HDCAM isn't a codec....it is a tape format. What you need to do is rent an HDCAM deck, buy an HD capture card and output to HDCAM. Or take your HDV project...or outputted file...to a post facility with FCP and an HDCAM deck and have them output it.
    I output HDV all the time to HDCAM SR. Twice a week.

  • How can I import HDV-Files from a CF-Card to Final cut Pro 5.1.4

    How can I import HDV-Files from a CF-Card (recorded with the Sony HVR Z 7E) to Final cut Pro Version 5.1.4 – is this possible at all?
    I managed to import the files to Premiere, but it was just a test. I am working at a very huge documentary project with Final cut Pro Version 5.1.4 thats why I would prefere not to change the program or the version.
    Simply exporting from Premiere back to final cut is also very complicated.
    Thanks for any ideas.

    First, copy the card to a hard drive connected to your fcp workstation.  I always back up all card based media at least 2 or three times.  All hard drive will eventually fail.  It's a question of when, not if.
    I'm not familiar with this particular camera, but examine the contents of the copied files and see if you can find any .mov files.  You can try importing these directly into fcp.
    If you don't, you can try something like clipwrap
    http://www.divergentmedia.com/clipwrap
    or
    Magic Bullet Grinder
    http://www.redgiantsoftware.com/
    But, I'd really advise upgrading to at least fcp6 or ideally fcp7 if you can find a copy.  HDV is a problematic format.  Although you can certainly work with it and it's a fcp approved format, converting your media to prores would make your life much easier.

  • Best (PAL) workflow to convert HDV interlaced to DV progressive?

    Question - What is the best (PAL) workflow to convert HDV interlaced to DV progressive?
    Software: Pr, En and Ae - all CS4.
    My Camera: (Sony Z1) shoots HDV 1080i.
    When capturing and editing, I keep everything HDV and interlaced.
    Premiere Pro:
    Capture HDV - mpeg 1440 x 1080 (1.3333)
    Sequence - 1440 x 1080 (1.3333) HD Anamorphic 1080 (1.333) Upper Field First - (HDV 1080i25 Preset)
    Once edit is complete, I dynamically link sequences into Encore.
    Question - Should I dynamically link to Encore or export sequence from Pro?
    If you aren't a fan of dynamically linking the sequences and believe exporting the sequences from Premiere Pro is the way to go, please advise of best export settings.  I assume during the export (from Pr) is when the converting from HDV interlaced to DV progressive takes place?
    At present, I dynamically link the sequences into Encore.  This means Encore handles the conversion to DV progressive.
    Question - What are the best (Encore) transcode settings to transcode HDV 1080i25 to DV progressive widescreen?
    I've tried numerous workflows but as yet, I've not been 100% happy with any of them.
    I'm finding it quite a challenge to take HDV 1080i and produce a good looking DVD i.e minimal artifacts and no interlaced jaggies.
    I used to downconvert to DV in-camera during the capture process, but I'm finding I'm getting much better results by editing in HDV and downconverting during post.  This is what my post is really all about i.e. finding the best workflow to do this.
    I would be very keen to hear of how others are shooting and editing in HDV to then produce best/high quality DVDs.
    Thanks for reading

    Hi DaveMD,
    Thank you so much for your Q&A post. It is so helpfull for me. I will test it right now. Unfortunatly for you, I reply your post with no answer, just a feedback..Sorry
    Nevertheless, my details are :
    Software: Pr, En and Ae - all CS4.
    My Camera: (Sony FX-1000) shoots HDV 1080i.
    Premiere Pro:
    Capture HDV - mpeg 1440 x 1080 (1.3333)
    Sequence - 1440 x 1080 (1.3333) HD Anamorphic 1080 (1.333) Upper Field First - (HDV 1080i25 Preset)
    I have exported the media in DVD MPG (.m2v) from Premiere and Build the final DVD from that .m2v into Encore.
    I have to say that I am not very happy with the final result when I convert into PAL Widescreen.
    I can see little artefacts, flikers and jaggies...
    - Do you think that this "double" DVD MPG export could lower the quality?
    - Could it be the FullHD screen (1080x1920) on which I display the final result (PAL 720x572) that interprates the video?
    Thank you for your lights !

  • Converting HDV to SD for best quality

  • Converting HDV clip to Flash

    Hello,
    I am wondering if there is any way how to convert HDV clip into Flash .flv file, keeping 16:9 ratio.
    I only manage to convert it into whatever conversion is available in Compressor, like .mov, H.264, etc.
    But how can I end up with Flash file?
    Thank you so much for your advise.

    Those are mutually exclusive operations, file size and image quality.
    Adobe's own media encoder cannot compress the their own FLV any more efficiently using preset. if you get in and tweak every scene change you can expect some fabulous results at the expense of lots of time and effort. But the file won't be significantly smaller.
    Again, suggest you hit Adobe.com and get everything they have to offer on encoding for Flash, there's tons of free information, not al of it is easy to find, hidden in support forums, tutorials, blogs. But it's there. And you can search here for "flv" we see the topic daily.
    But consider that you shot 720 and are now smooshing it to less than VHS quality and wondering why it's not both lovely and small at the same time. It's a tough compromise, very difficult to achieve, especially if you are going to open the frame controls and start applying white restore, intelligent deinterlacing, gamma, and contrast adjustments.
    Sorry not to be able to give you a magic formula.

  • Convert HDV PAL 1080i50 to NTSC HD 1080i

    Has anyone ever successfully converted HDV PAL 1080i50 to NTSC HD 1080i. we keep running into problems with cinema tools. Both the preferences in the file menu and button marked "conform" in the open clip dialogue are GRAYED OUT!! Please help...
    We've also tried using MPEG Streamclip 1.9 to conform our footage with meager results. Basically we always end up with jumpy footage.
    Also if no one knows how to do this, what about converting 1080i50 to 1080i/p 23.98/24?? Is this possible? Can it have smooth playback?

    I've done it in a different way.... I've used FCP Media Manager to recompress the HDV footage to DVCPRO HD, then it works in Cinema Tools, although I've gotten glitches in the video for some reason on occasion. Inotherwords, the orginal PAL DVCPRO HD file is perfect. Then when I conform it in Cinema Tools to 23.98 (which takes about a second), it's now a perfect NTSC file with the exception that at around 5 mins. in, there's a five frame glitch, which I have no way to explain except that there's a glitch in the software which causes that...

    I need to convert PDF file to Word Document, so it can be edited. But the recognizing text options do not have the language that I need. How I can convert the file in the desired of me language?

    The application Acrobat provides no language translation capability.
    If you localize the language for OS, MS Office applications, Acrobat, etc to the desired language try again.
    Alternative: transfer a copy of content into a web based translation service (Bing or Google provides a free service).
    Transfer the output into a word processing program that is localized to the appropriate language.
    Do cleanup.

  • How can I convert an InputStream to a FileInputStream ???

    How can I convert an InputStream to a FileInputStream ???

    Thanks for you reply, however, I am still stuck.
    I am trying to convert my application (which runs smoothly) to a signed applet. The following is the original (application) code:
    private void loadConfig() {
    String fileName = "resources/groupconfig";
    File name = new File(fileName);
    if(name.isFile()) {
    try {
         ObjectInputStream in = new ObjectInputStream(new FileInputStream(fileName));
         pAndGConfig = (PAGroupsConfig)in.readObject();
         in.close();
         return;
    } catch(ClassNotFoundException e) {
         System.err.println("++ERROR: "+e);
    } catch(IOException e) {
         System.err.println("++ERROR: "+e);
    System.out.println("Can't find file: " + fileName);
    Because all code and resources now reside in a Jar file (for the signed applet), I must use the following line to access the resources:
    InputStream is = this.getClass().getResourceAsStream(fileName);
    I then need to convert the 'InputStream' to 'ObjectInputStream' or 'FileInputStream' so that I can work with it.
    I would be very grateful if you could help shed some light on the matter - Cobram
