How do I convert .pdf into searchable OCR using Adobe Acrobat Capture 3.0?

How do I convert .pdf into searchable OCR using Adobe Acrobat
Capture 3.0?
Our division is digitizing it's files, and we've been using
Adobe Acrobat 5.0 (2). We've 'scanned-in' several hundred
documents, but they have been saved as .pdf files (which are
currently not 'searchable', as they are only scanned images).
We just received the Adobe Acrobat Capture 3.0 program, and
we were told that we would be able to scan-in any new documents and
save them both as .pdf and OCR documents (Optical Character
Recognition). Therefore, we were told, we would be able to search
through the body of the document, using OCR, and not just through
the document filename, as we had been doing before.
HOWEVER, we don't know how to use this new OCRing program.
Also, we don't know how to convert the .pdf documents which we've
already scanned into OCR recognizable documents.
Is someone able to assist us here in this forum?
Merci beaucoup / Shokran jazilan / Thank you very much!

As has been mentioned Adobe Reader cannot export PDF page content. Nor can it create PDF or manipulate PDF page content.
What you can do is use one of Adobe's online subscription services. Two provide for PDF  to Word export.
    There's ExportPDF and PDF Pack.

  • Cannot convert pdf file to Word using Adobe ExportPDF online...I get a timeout error after a wait of about 15 minutes

Oh...BTW...I am using Windows 7 with Chrome browser and I disabled text recognition.  The file is 3.7 MB.  It says it failed because it is taking too long to process however the Adobe export PDF notes that it can convert unlimited files to Word or Excel files.  Anything else I can try?  I exported it to Adobe.com and tried toconvert it there but it looks like the same process...and with the same result.

    Hi there,
It sounds like there may be an issue with the quality of the PDF. Not all PDFs are created equal, and especially those created from scanned documents can be problematic if the scan quality isn't the best. Is there a dark background on the PDF, or stray marks or smudges?
You can try converting with OCR disabled at outlined in this document: How to disable Optical Character Recognition (O... | Adobe Community. But, while that's a good test to find out where the problem lies, you'll end up with a Word document that isn't editable, so it's not an optimal solution.
Please let us know how it goes.

  • Netweaver 2004 :  How to create an pdf without need to use Adobe Control ?

    Dear WebDynpro experts,
in my application I use Adobe interactive forms to create a pdf document for printing purposes.
I provide it as download using the file download GUI element.
There's no need to work with the pdf document afterwards, sionce it is only needed for printouts.
If I use my application with Firefox this works great. I can download my pdf without any problem.
But if I try to use Internet explorer and wand to download the pdf I always get the message that I have
to install Adobe Control into my Internet explorer.
Is it possible to configure my application the way that I don't need the adobe control on my Internet explorer ?
Is there a better way to provide non interactive pdf documents ?
    Best regards,
    Daniel

    Dear Ruturaj,
    thanks for your answer.
Unfortunately Í don't have an "display type" property for Interactive form.
I have beneath the Event and Event properties the following properties in my
property list for the Interactive Forms element :
    data source
    enabled
    height
    id
    mode
    pdfsource
    templatesource
    tooltip
    visible
    width
I also checked the Form Properties within the designer and didn't find a display type property.
I assume this is due to the fact I use an old version of Netweaver Developer Studio since I have
only Netweaver Developer Studio 2004 SP 20.
is there a way to switch off Active X using such a version ?
    Best regards,
    Daniel

  • Firefox 8... Unable to create PDF files from screen using Adobe Acrobat X...what happened?

I'm no longer able to use the Adobe feature to create PDF's from the Firefox screen.
Unable to find any information on correcting this issue.

  • Drag PDF into MS Word (using Adobe Pro 8)

We have to create MS Word reports that contain PDF images. We don't want to make those PDF documents into OCR or editable content. In previous versions we could drag the unopened PDF file onto an empty MS Word page and the multiple page PDF would convert into one image per page. We can't do that with the new version, it will only give us the first page of the PDF as an image. Is there a way to do this now?

Yes, I’m saying that I can in WORD use “Save As ADOBE pdf” but cannot in ADOBE create a pdf file from a WORD (.doc or .docx) document. While I can from other MS Office apps like Excel and PowerPoint.
I understand I can use “work around” and save doc in WORD as pdf then compile all files needed (xml, ppt, pdf) in the ADOBE v9. to one big pdf document. But that is not the point of this post.

  • Creating PDF via Word Macro using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro

I've been trying to create a macro for Word documents that will write the document out as a PDF and named as C:\temp\temp.pd. My macro to date is below, but everything I've tried so far results in a .prn file, though it is named temp.pdf. Trying to record the Macro using toolbar buttons or dropdowns yields a macro with no code. Any suggestions?
    Sub WritePdfFile()
    ' WritePdfFile Macro
        Windows(1).Activate
        ActivePrinter = "Acrobat PDFWriter"
        Application.PrintOut FileName:="", OutputFileName:="C:\temp\temp.pdf", Range:=wdPrintAllDocument, Item:= _
            wdPrintDocumentContent, Copies:=1, Pages:="", PageType:=wdPrintAllPages, _
            Collate:=True, Background:=True, PrintToFile:=False

I have tried using ActivePrinter = "Adobe PDF" . However, the results are the same. The file created is a prn file.  I've seen some references to a MS Word 'PDF Maker' plug-in that perhaps should be used, but this does not seem necessary to me. This is because, with the same document opened in Word, I can select the 'Convert to Adobe PDF' toolbar button and this creates a temp.pdf file as I need it. The challenge seems to be to get the same behavior through the use of a Macro.

I'm not one to spend money when it is not necessary.
Try deskUNPDF for Mac as suggested. As I said you can do a few trials per document. You won't know if you don't try. If it is only text then it probably would do fine. However you need to look at the different things you want to convert, try it out and see if it does the job. Warning: The limit in the trial is 4 single and separate pages per document so you may need to divide you document into smaller documents. If it is not doing what you want then maybe Adobe Writer is what you need, particularly if you do a lot of PDF conversions.
As a basic document converter I would certainly use it again. I have to say I have come across a lot of useful freebie info and good software sites in this forum.

  • Why is Photoshop Elements 8 not saving a psd file as a pdf now that I purchased Adobe Acrobat XI Pro?

Why is Adobe Elements 8 not saving a psd file as a pdf after I started using Adobe Acrobat XI Pro instead of my CS3 Pro? Both Adobe software is up to date and before I switched to Acrobat XI Pro, it worked fine. Help please...

You aren't talking to Adobe here. But still...Is it by any chance asking for a QUALIFYING product? If so, you purchased an UPGRADE and now need to give the serial number of the OLDER product (Acrobat 9 or X) which you must own to be able to use the upgrade. Simples.

  • PDF Portfolio on IPAD using Adobe X does not record notes and highlights

    Hello
I have uploaded a PDF Portfolio and ADOBE Reader X to my IPAD and cannot highlight or annotate the documents. The pencil tool is greyed out. Is there a setting that I am forgetting to create?
    Thank you!

    Hi,
Currently Adobe Reader on iOS does not allow annotations on documents that are part of a Portfolio, though this is something we would consider supporting in a future release.
One way out is to extract the PDFs within the Portfolio (using Adobe Acrobat, for example) and individually editing them in Adobe Reader on iOS.
    Thanks,

How do I convert à PDF file into my dairy?

If I understand whatnyounare asking (and not sure I do), you may have a difficult time accomplishing that. Calendar app doesn't store documents and I don 't know of an app that will extract text from a PDF and place it in a calendar entry automatically. Check the app store - I could be wrong - but you will have to handle that manually.
Many apps that read PDF will allow you to copy text, including GoodReader mentioned above.

  • How to convert pdf into html?

    Hi,
I am an amateur ASP developer. I want to create a pdf viewer like http://www.scribd.com. But I want to convert PDF into HTML on the server and then display it to the client. I want to convert into HTML so that it can be browsed from mobile devices also. And I need the text to be searched client side.
Can anyone help me? Give me any direction or hint on how to achieve this or where to start? Have anyone done this before?

    Irosenth,
Thank you very much for your kind reply.
Well, can you give me a clue from where to start? Is there any server component? or can ASP.NET help? Or from where I can get some information on converting PDF into html on server side?
Look, everybody was a starter sometime. I want to do this.

  • How do I convert a JPEG file to an Adobe Reader (PDF) file?

Please help me. I have scanned an image of a text in a book.  The scanned image is automatically uploaded into a JPEG file.  How do I convert this into a PDF file?

None of the free Adobe Reader products provide the capability of converting image files (e.g. jpeg, gif, png) to PDF.
    You can either use
Acrobat XI Pro or Standard - Scan to PDF
Adobe PDF Pack (formerly known as CreatePDF): online subscription service - JPEG to PDF Converter
You may find some free non-Adobe apps or online services.  But the quality of PDF output may vary.
Unless you use OCR (Optical Character Recognition), the scanned image of text will not be recognized as real text.  So you will not be able to highlight text, for example.
