To get your image into the shape you've created. Place your
shape over the
top of the image, select image and shape and from the Modify
menu select
Mask > Group as Mask.

Hi Libby,
Select all three columns of data. All three must be 'regular' columns, not Header columns, and the X values must be in the leftmost column.
Click the Charts button and choose the Scatter chart.
The resulting chart will initially show only the first and second columns of data, and the selection will have been reduced to show this.
Click the gear icon at the top left of the selection and choose Share X Values.
You should see a result similar to this:
Notes:
The values on my sample table contain a random element, so they have changed from thhe first image to the second.
The chart is as created by Numbers, with two edits:
Data points have been connected with curves, using the Chart nspector.
The curves were selected and their stroke increased to 2pts, using the stroke formating button in the format bar.

What about storing the image before to execute the drawing method ? Undoing would be as easy as repainting the stored image ?

How do I create a portfolio with rotating images?

I'm new to web design and I'm creating my first website for my graphic design business. I'm using CS4. I want to have a portfolio page so that one sample of work will be displayed at a time (logos, brochures, etc.), and there will be a left and right arrow (button) to navigate through several design samples. I also want to be able to click on the small image and have it open up larger in a separate window. Can someone explain the best way to do this?

Your associate has given you bad advice. Even if you wanted to do a simple HTML site, exporting a design from Fireworks to import into Dreamweaver is not the best workflow. Fireworks is a graphics application. The functionality to export HTML is intended for prototypes. The HTML you get is fragile and very difficult to maintain. If you export CSS markup, then you will still need to know HTML and CSS in order to continue the development of your design in Dreamweaver. You are far better off using Firworks to produce first a layout/mockup of your design, then the images needed for the site. From there, you should develop the site - from scratch - in Dreamweaver.
That said, neither Fireworks nor Dreamweaver have the ability to produce the functionality you describe with a few clicks of drop down menus. What you describe needs some kind of advanced coding. Fireworks does not have anything like it.
From here, then, I recommend you look into pre-built photo galleries, and see if there isn't one that will work well enough for you. I've used Lightbox 2 (JavaScript) and SimpleViewer (Flash). They both have pros and cons, but both are quite easy to implement (especially SimpleViewer).

How can I create a video with effects (sepia, B&W, Negative, oval or any other shape borders) using my ipad? I would Like to keep a higher res and also be able to shrink it down to email or send in a MMS. Or should I just upload it to my PC and mess with it there? Some of the apps I have are very easy to use compared to the learning curve needed for video editing software.

Thats the Problem . . . how many apps do I have to try until I find the one I want? I noticed a few will render the video thus losing its original size. When I went to edit it more in iMovie the video was smaller--not good. And what software do you suggest, Templeton, for the PC? I love the apps because they are easy. I dont have hours to mess around on a software to figure out if its something I want. Im looking for simplicity. Maybe Ill get more into it later. I just want to record simple video of my playing the guitar for self analysis and create a short video for family and friends.

Here's a quick example I threw together that generates a sort-of-bell-curve shaped data distribution, then performs the binning and plotting.

The hyphen (-) is more search engine friendly, so I label all my photos using hyphens (-) to separate the keywords in the file name
Here's a sample file name - it's for the "Guess Where Berkeley" flickr site

I created a Lightroom HTML Gallery and posted it to the following link.

Though it looksl like the HML gallery shows the original file name in the web page, it looks like Adobe Lightroom modified each photo's file name by changing the - (hyphen) to an underscore (_)

InDesign's interactive PDF support is a small subset of what you can do in Acrobat Profesional.
I think you probably want to create a button (or change an existing button) in Acrobat Pro that causes Acrobat to close the document -- that should be analagous to "exitting the CD." I assume your autorun file is opening the PDF in Adobe Reader? You have not included it and are not specific, so it is tough to say.
I believe in Acrobat Javascript you can close the document with this.closeDoc(). You'll probaly need to ask on the Acrobat forums (possiby Acrobat Scripting) for more detail.

There are times when you would insert a url into fireworks, such as creating hotspots or pop-up menus. You may do so from the properities panal at the bottom of the screen. I've read that you nust insert the entire url when doing so: http//www.filename.html, but I was unsure. I was hoping to confirm this. If you can do it in dreamweaver, even with popuus that would be better.

How do I create a subaxis in DIAdem GRAPH using an autosequence?

I am creating graphs in DIAdem REPORT using an Autosequence (3 graphs and text). This is to prevent anyone from changing the format of the report, which is why I am not simply loading an existing layout. My question is how do you add a sub-axis to a 2d Axis system? I can tell the curves in the axis-system that they belong to subaxis 2, but the subaxis doesn't exist so the curve is not displayed.
How do I create the new subaxis?

Hi Jeff,
Unfortunately this is a gap in our function set for GRAPH objects. I have been told by the developers that there is no VBScript-level function to create a Y axis programmatically. Your only option as far as I know is to have several copies of the same report layout saved off with different numbers of Y axes. As you accurately pointed out, once the Y axis exists, you can programmatically associate various curves with it or edit its properties.

I switched to Mac from PC which means I lost FrontPage. I have 6 small websites for my books and I need to rebuild these. I don't have time to learn Dreamweaver at this time. How do I create the essential hidden folders I need in iWeb to place the books for download?

I just wasted 6 hours before I realized this. I'm so frustrated switching from PC to Mac. The learning curve is tremendous and very frustrating. I've lost over a month of productivity due to little issues like this. Hopefully no one else will suffer. Here's the remedy I came up with.
Basically iWeb cannot be used for anything other than basic vanity mini websites. If you're doing ecommerce, need various folders or are using it to market products with downloads or anything needing protected, this is not the product to use.
For others with my issue, how do you update or change a FrontPage site when you no longer have it and no longer have a PC (most of the open source programs available for this only work on PC). My sites were built in FrontPage. I needed to update and change them. This is how to do it.
From the hosting panel with your hosting company use the FTP uploader. You need to save the entire FrontPage Website to your computer or an external harddrive. You can then open it and edit it in DreamWeaver. You may be able to do this with outher editors as well but this one I know you can. Dreamweaver can be rented on a month-to-month basis now and it does come with a 30 day free trial.
If you don't know how to do CSS style sheets, you will need to go into each open page, cut the text, past it into an rtf document in Mac. Then, choose format and change it to 'plain text' and recopy and past into the open page of Dreamweaver. This gets rid of the funky formatting FrontPage does and changes all the copy to <p> tags. Then go into the code view in Dreamweaver and add the <h1> <h2> and other headings where needed. Dreamweaver does allow you to specify the attributes and create an in page CSS.
All of this is temporary but at least you'll be able to work on, edit and make changes even if you've lost access to a PC and FrontPage. Eventually you will need to replace the entire FrontPage site

Are you referring to the text, the color effect, or both?
Adding type is very easy - just grab the Type Tool from the tool bar. The article linked above provides some great tips for editing type in Photoshop.
As is the case with many "how to's" for Photoshop, there are several ways to acheive the colorized effect like the one applied to image you linked to. One method is to use Adjustment Layers, which I have outlined below.
1. With your image layer active (it will be highlighted in blue in your Layers panel, as shown below), create a selection of the area you'd like to colorize. I'm using the Polygonal Lasso Tool to create a diagonal selection - to do so, I held down the Shift key on my keyboard as a created my diagonal lines. This might take a bit of practice, but you'll get the hang of it quickly.
2. Then, in your Adjustments panel (if you don't see it, go to Window > Adjustments), click on the Curves adjustment layer, as highlighted below. Now you can play around with the curves to get the effect you'd like. (Here's a quick guide on using the Curve tool)
3. To select the other areas of your image, command (Mac) / control (PC) click on the adjustment layer thumbnail (highlighted below). Then, go to Select > Inverse.
4. Now we want to deselect part of our selection. Grab the Quick Selection Tool from the toolbar and set it to Subract from selection. Then, simply drag the selection brush over the area you want to deselect. In my case, I only want to have the upper-left corner of my image selected.
5. After you have your selection, click on the image layer and add a Curves adjustment layer like before.
6. Repeat steps 3-5 for the other corner of your image and you should end up with something like this:
The nice thing about using adjustment layers is that you can always change them - just double click on the Adjustment layer thumbnail (highlighted in step 3).
Alternatively, you can select areas of your image and fill the selections with flat colors on separate layers. You can then go in a change the Blend Mode and Opacity for each layer.

How can I create a white hotspot in an image, i.e. A bright spot with feathered edges for a figure to walk out of, a bit like a sun?

Create new layer, make an eliptical selection, and fill with the colour of choice. A muted yellow perhaps.
Use a high value Gausian blur to soften and feather the layer. High values of blur will make the flare very thin, so if too thin, duplicate the layer.
Use Free Transfor to size and shape the flare.
or
Select the figure, and copy to a new layer.
Double click the new layer to open Layer Styles, and use Outer Glow, and some inner glow. This is by far the better option as you can control the inner and outer glow independantly.
or
Open a new document with a square aspect ratio. Make it at least as big as the other image.
make a new layer, and make foreground colour yellow, and BG colour white
Go Filter > Render Fibers. Use full strength, and a lowish variance. You are looking for strong, closely spaced vertical streaks.
Now go Filter > Distort > Polar coordinates. Make sure Rectangular to Polar is checked and OK it.
Duplicate the layer to your other image document, and place behind the layer with your figure on it.
You can play with the flare layer with curves, or maybe add a wee bit of blur and then harden with curves or levels
If you want the flare layer to overlap the figure a bit, Ctrl (Cmd) click the figure layer to load it as a selection, and add a layer mask to the flare layer. Move the flare layer above the figure layer. Now feather the layer mask, using the Mask Properties panel, or use Mask Edge options in the Mask properties panel to expand, or contract the mask.
