How do I create a Mountain Lion USB bootable disc with Windows 7?

Hi all. Long story short, my 11-month-old MacBook Pro suffered a failed hard drive the other day. Took it to the Genius Bar and they offered to replace it for free under warranty, but won't give me back the old drive so that I can take it to a data recovery specialist and retrieve my files. I'm considering just purchasing a new SSD myself and installing that so that I can keep the old drive and take it in for data recovery. But how do I create a boot disk on my Windows 7 machine? I was fortunate enough to back up the dmg for 10.8.4, but I don't know what to do with it! I have a 15GB flash drive already, just need to know how to go about it so I can install a fresh OS on the new hard drive.
Thanks!

Instead of trying to burn Mountain Lion on Windows, Mid 2010 and newer MacBooks Pro have Internet Recovery > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718 This allows you to reinstall OS X even if your hard drive has nothing.
Hold Command, Option (Alt) and R keys while your Mac is starting and you will be asked for a network. Then, follow the steps to reinstall OS X. You may have to format the hard drive > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html

  • I can't boot any latest gen imacs off a mountain lion USB bootable drive

So I have created a mountain lion USB boot drive because I work on a number of imacs, but for the latest generation it doesn't seem to work.
I create it in the normal way, downloading the app through itunes then using http://liondiskmaker.com/ to create the usb boot drive.
When I try to boot from it: http://i.imgur.com/IUDlv.jpg
I get this icon on the screen: http://i.imgur.com/DNc8U.jpg
The weird thing is that I have used this exact bootable usb stick to upgrade many, many older imacs to mountain lion. I don't want to have to redownload the entire 5gb or so every time I need to install mountain lion on a new imac. I've tried this with both the 21.5" and the 27" varieties and both have the same issue. What is causing this?
I also need to boot from it directly rather then doing an in-OS upgrade in the odd times I'm working with an imac at a place that doesn't have a decent internet connection (6 gigs of downloading isn't available to everybody in Australia)
Someone has mentioned that it may be due to new imacs not allowing older installation media, but I have downloaded the latest version as of 3 days ago and it does the same thing.

It has nothing to do with Lion Disk Maker. That is only used to Create a Boot USB thumb drive, or DVD, of the Lion/Mt Lion install files. It does not add anything to either the DVD or thumb drive you create with it.
The problem lies with the Special build Apple creates for every new Mac that comes out that has different hardware then the previously released models.
Eventually they will come out with a new updated build, like 10.8.3, that will contain all the drivers for every Mac computer ML can be installed on, Older and the newest. Until that happens there is only one way to get a version that will boot on the newest systems. And that is to use either the Recovery HD or the Online Internet Recovery system ON one of those New Mac's. Those newer Mac's are the only one that can access the Special Build needed for the new systems.

I have mountain lion OSX and parallels with Windows.  Every time I click on a hyperlink in other applications it opens - some 7 Zip file explorer inside Parallels but doesn't go to Safari.  Does anyone know solution?

I suggest that you run software update, after which you should have Safari 6.0.5 - then check Safari - Preferences - Privacy & see that 'Block cookies' is not set to Always.
Failing that - switch Safari extensions Off via Safari - Preferences - Extensions & test again

    Hi,
I purchased Huawei Dongle and trying to connect with my new MacBook Pro (OS- Mountain Lion) USB port 3.0 but unfortunately it does not support.
When I plugged in my macbook the power is flowing in dongle due green light blinking twice in every 3 sec but no connection found or diver shown.
Please let me know how I have to use it. I got some suggestion for USB hub 2.0 but It does not make any sense and driver installation.
So please suggest proper direction to use it and provide link to install any driver.
    Thanks

Yes Clinton I did same, but they were (Huawei customer support) surprised about this problem, They behave like they have no idea about USB 2.0 and  3.0 knowledge. They handsUp that reason I posted my problem in this forum.
So is there any better solution to use any mediator between these USB version handling, Please let me know.
    Thanks

  • I've,just,bought,a,new,Mac,with,mavericks,,but,I,don't,like,mavericks,,how,may,I ,downgrade,to,Mountain,Lion,10.8.5?

I've just bought a brand new iMac with OS X Mavericks but I dont like Mavericks and it also has problems with some apps I use, how may I downgrade to Mountain Lion 10.8.5?

    You can't.
You cannot install or run an OS X version lower than what is, originally, installed on your Mac.
Your only option maybe to purchase a download code for OS X Mountain Lion here,
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6377Z/A/os-x-mountain-lion
Purchase a high quality USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt hard drive, formatted as an OS X exetnded (journaled) drive with a GUID partition scheme and install OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion to the external drive and boot and run your new iMac from this external drive.
This is the only optioh to run an older OS X version on a new Mac.
I have a 2009 iMac that the lowest OS X version I can run from the iMac's internal hard drive is OS X 10.6.1.
I have an external drive with OS X 10.5.8 and can get my iMac to boot and run this older OS X version from the ex eternal hard drive.
Here is a good source for quality external hard drives.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Lacie/9000353/
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Lacie/9000303/
Your only other option is to return your new iMac within 14 days for a full refund and look for older iMac, either new or used that came with OS X Mountain Lion as its original, preinstalled OS X version.
    Good Luck!

  • Mail created w/ mountain Lion will not open in SL10.6.8, or OS X yosemite.

Mail created w/ mountain Lion will not open in SL10.6.8, or OS X yosemite.  How can I convert it to open?

After a second call to AppleCare, they had advised me differently than before.  Once they found out that my personal computer has Mac OS X Lion installed from the App Store, they suggested I simply upgrade my parents computer to Lion.
So, I used my download from the App Store and upgraded.  It went smoothly, but Mail still will not open properly.  And instead of the original error message, it comes up with this:
"Check with your developer to make sure Mail can work with your version of Mac OS X.  You may need to reinstall the application.  Check if there are any updates available for the application."
How can I re-install just Mail?  A startup disk is not accessible for me right now.  Can I download the latest version of Mail and install it from the Apple.com website?

And, which application and which format did you use/save the document in?

That has never been a feature of Mac OS X, but I believe there was some kind of third-party software that could add that capability.  i don't recall what its name is, but you must have had that installed, and it either isn't installed anymore (perhaps removed as incompatible?) or is not working properly in Mountain Lion.

  • How do I re-install Mountain Lion on a new hard drive (replacement)?

I have an older iMac 24" (2007) that has been up-graded to Mountain lion.  I want to replace my hard drive with a bigger one (has 500Gb).  How can I re-install Mountain Lion on my new drive?  I have Time Machine on this machine.

Install 10.6 and 10.8 onto the new drive exactly how you did it on the old drive, except that you won't need to pay to redownload 10.8. Alternatively, if you kept a copy of the 10.8 installer, you can just rerun it.

How to go back to Mountain lion os x 10.8 again from mavericks.?

You can reinstall your system from a backup (Time Machine or "clone") or erase it completely and reinstall Mountain Lion.
OS X Mountain Lion: Erase and reinstall OS X
If your Mac shipped with Mountain Lion already installed, you can reinstall it. Otherwise, you can only reinstall Mountain Lion if you purchased it from the App Store.
You may be better off describing the problems you're experiencing, so that they can be fixed. The vast majority of Mavericks complaints are due to outdated or poorly written software or similarly incompatible system modifications, and some simple troubleshooting may reveal the cause.

Can anyone tell me how to add birthday on Mountain Lion? in contacts there is no such field.

With Contacts open, go to Preferences - Template, and open the Add Field dropdown menu.  Select Birthday.
If you also want to add Anniversary information, select Dates in the drop-down menu. It appears that a new date field is defined automatically as Anniversary - but if it isn't on your machine, it's easy enough to change.
