  • How to create a multiplayer game for steam using flash/flex?

    Hi guys,
    We've got a multiplayer game ready to go. Currently it is not multiplayer, but we'd like to get it to a stage where it can be played over the steam network by users of steam and owners of steam games.
    We'd like to if anyone could briefly give us a breakdown of how to get out game up on steam and available for multiplayer?
    Does steam host servers, and can we utilise a steam server to transfer data between players or would we have to run our own server?
    Currently were using flash builder to publish via adobe air to a windows desktop exe. Can anyone briefly explain how - once a player has downloaded the game from steam we can connect two players? Does anyone know how to use actionscript 3 to access steam network?
    Anyone have any experience developing multiplayer turn based game for steam using flash /actionscript 3 /adobe air?
    Thanks for your help in advance,
    i

    You would want to use the SteamWorks API, which is available from Steam as a C++ library, but there is most likely an Adobe Native Extension (ANE) that would allow you to use the library in AS3.
    I've never used SteamWorks but it seems to support peer-2-peer matchmaking (in other words, you wouldn't even need your own server, I think.)

  • 3D content for iOS using Flash Builder? Possible?

    Hi,
    Is it possible to use Papervision or Away 3D using Flash Builder 4.6 and compile this succesfully for iOS?
    I have previously had lots of fun with Papervision and I am just wondering if it is possible to create 3D interface content for iOS and/or Android?
    HR

    I think Away3D (and possibly PaperVision) uses Pixel Bender shaders. They don't work on mobile devices, AFAIK. But Stage3D is supposedly coming to AIR mobile soon. That should blow the socks of any software rendering. I think Away3D will be supporting it.

  • FRUSTRATED: FiOS Mobile app for iPad and live TV on my computer do not recognize me as a subscriber

    We recently upgraded our data only service to FiOS TV and Quantum internet.  TV service in the house works great.  However, attempts to watch live TV (on channels that I subscribe to/pay for) using FiOS mobile for iPAD and on my home computer continue to result in some error message saying that my subscription cannot be verified.  The same happens when trying to view WatchESPN or Disney via our Apple TV.
    I've attempted to resolve this via two or three chat sessions and at least two phone calls to Verizon and it hasn't been fixed or resolved.  Somewhere in my account a "pending order" exists, although I don't have one pending.  No one knows how to clear this out but thinks that is my problem.  This is very frustrating.
    Any suggestions or thoughts?  I have done the following:
    -uninstalled and reinstalled FiOS mobile
    -been sure to log in under the primary user when online or or the iPad
    Thanks!

  • Making a mobile app for droid with flash cs5.5 and as3

    hello there i am having a problem with a mobile application i am  building. It is working just fine with no errors or lag on my  computer.however, when i export it for my droid, one of the lose  functions ceases to work altogether, causing the game to freeze and me  manually ending the app. I’ve checked the code over and over but with no  luck, am at lost on how to fix this.
    I use this code to call the lose function when these conditions are met:
    if(imHit >= 24)
    loseGameNow();
    if(noThugs && enemyTwo)
    windowHit_mc.gotoAndStop(2);
    timed += (1/30);
    if(!noThugs && counter >= 15 || timed >= 5)
    if(musicOn)
    newSong.stop();
    door_mc.gotoAndStop(2);
    longBoard.alpha = 0;
    if(enemyTwo)
    windowHit_mc.enemy2_mc.gotoAndStop(10);
    enemy3_mc.gotoAndPlay(2);
    removeEnemyListeners();
    removeEventListener(Event.ENTERFRAME, gameLoop);
    TweenLite.delayedCall(1.5,loseGameNow);
    if(!endLevel && brokenBricks)
    loseGameNow();
    and this line
    TweenLite.delayedCall(1.5,loseGameNow);
    calls this function:
    private function loseGameNow():void
    removeEnemyListeners();
    gameTimer.stop();
    removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, gameLoop);
    gotoAndStop(“gameOver”);
    if(musicOn)
    newSong.stop();
    mArray0 = new mArray20();
    newSong = mArray0.play(0, 1000);
    if(enemyTwo)
    if(soundOn)
    array0 = new array20();
    newSound = array0.play(0);
    if(!brokenSign) +
    neonFlicked.stop();
    gameOverScore_txt.text = score.toString();
    trace(gameOverScore_txt.text + " text");
    home_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, home);
    trace(“added home_mc.addEventListener”);
    start_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,preGame);
    trace(“added start_mc.addEventListener”);
    This code works completely fine on my laptop and does not disable the  score, or the two buttons until i load it onto my phone, and they become  inaccessible causing me to not continue the game.

    i'm not sure if this is necessary anymore, but i took the advise of another user here
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/764981
    the key difference is, the user stated a preloading swf needed to embed the image in order to display before the whole apk is loaded.
    Seems to be working for me anyway

  • Building Native Mobile App for Android: error message, build fail

    Hi,
    I'm  trying RH10 on a Win 8 x64 system, trying to get the generate for  mobile devices, Android to work. I've installed the Android SDK (part of  the complete ADT) in a "Development" folder in the C drive, installed  JDK for Win 64, added the PhoneGap and ANT unzipped folders to the  "Development" folder and then in the RH10 dialog to generate the Android  APK, I've pointed set the correct paths to these tools. (All installed  tools are correct for my OS, Win 8 x64.)
    No  matter what I try, using a sample file (EmployeeCare, Salesbuilder), I  get an error message at the very end of the build process. Please see the screenshot showing the error message and the relevant part of the  log which looks like the ANT path is not working correctly. The build  fails every time. I've tried to do some troubleshooting online and for  example, came across setting the environment variables for the ANT  folder, which I did, but with no success in fixing the problem. The  Eclipse installation connects with the JDK and runs OK if I simply boot  it up.
    My path settings are in a second screenshot below.
    (I've tried the ANT path with different values, for example "C:\Development\apache-ant-1.9.0-bin" etc. Doesn't prevent error message and build failure.)
    I  am not sure what else to do. Any help would be appreciated. At this  point, I would be happy to simply be able to build one APK then test it  on an Android device.
    Thank you for your help.
    Kind Regards,
    saratogacoach

    @saratogacoach
    Not much on the forums yet about creating an app but I notice you are using Windows 8 which is not officially supported yet. Can you try on a Windows 7 machine to rule out the OS being the problem?

  • Do I need to upgrade my CC Account to create a folio app for non-iPad devices?

    Hello,
    I have never created a DPS app, but have been researching this for the last 4 weeks.  From what I understand, I can create a DPS app for iPad using a single edition or a multifolio app.  If I want to create a DPS app for any other device, I would need to create a multifolio app.  I have only a Creative Cloud account, but I believe that I will need a Professional or Enterprise account to create multifolio apps.  Is there another way that I could create apps for Android, iPhone, etc devices without having to upgrated my account?
    Thank you.

    Your research and understanding is correct. If you want to use DPS to target anything other than an iPad you need Professional or Enterprise edition.

  • Deployed Android project using Flash Builder Burrito not working on mobiles

    Hi,
    I have created a simple "Hello World" Application using Flash Builder Burrito SDK. I have tested the result in the emulator it is working great.
    After that i deployed the application using "Export Release Build Option" and entered valid certificate details and created the .apk file. I copied the .apk file into the device and i run the application. Iam unable to run the app. I have tried these in 3 android supported devices and in each of these i am getting different error messages. I have mentioned the device in which i have tested and the error message i got while i tried to install the app (.apk file)
    HTC Desire - "Error while parsing the package of the application"
    Samsung Galaxy Tab - "Error while parsing the package of the application"
    LG Optimus one (LG P500) - "Application not installed"
    I have created a New Mobile Project in the flash SDK and added simple label "HELLO WORLD" in the view section.
    Before deploying i have installed Adobe AIR 2.5 in the device.
    Whether iam missing any of the steps to deploy correctly in the device. If so, please let me know. Also i need to know whether any restrictions are there for applications developed using Flash Burrito Preview Release. (whether by default all android mobile version more than 2.1 will support it?)
    Also when i try to install "Tour De Mobile Flex" apk in LG Optimus, it is saying "Device not supported" message.
    How do i overcome these problems to run the apk file without any problems.
    If you need any other detail please let me know, i will explain it in detail.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Srinivasan.C

    Ok, this is an old post but i still needed a couple of hours to find a solution, so here we go:
    - Most likely you have TWO executable build targets in your project (two mxml that you can launch). If so, go to the Project settings > Flex Applications and remove the one you don't need so you only have one.
    - My case was a bit complex though - i was using an ANE and Coldfucion server. In this case change the Output folder in the Project Properties > Flex Server > Output folder to something like "temp" instead of "C:..." generated by Flex Builder. The Android device gets confused by a "C:" reference but still can understand a local "temp" folder
    I hope i have saved your day

  • Developing for 'Air for TV' with Flash builder 4.5?

    How can I target Adobe Air 2.5 when using Flash Builder 4.5 so I can develop for Adobe Air for TV?
    When I change the app.xml file to point to 2.5, I get the following error:
    "Namespace 2.5.0 in the application descriptor file should be equal or higher than the minimum version 2.6.0 required by Flex SDK."

    I was finally able to get my app on a Samsung TV. Here's some more info on this subject. You actually have to overlay the Air 2.6 SDK - not the 2.5 SDK.
    Also make sure when you finally package the TV app to change the application XML to point to 2.5,. During development you can leave it as 2.6.
    @see http://learn.adobe.com/wiki/display/airquestions/AIR+for+TV
    What tools do developers use to create AIR 2.5.1 apps for TVs?
    Developers can use the following tools:
    AIR 2.6 SDK
    Flash Professional CS5 Extension for AIR 2.5 (now an integral feature in Flash Professional CS5.5)
    Flash Builder 4.5
    Note: Developers can use the AIR 2.6 SDK for developing apps for AIR 2.5.1 for TV. In Flash Professional, set the publish settings to Adobe AIR 2.5. In Flash Builder, set the AIR namespace to 2.5 in the app descriptor file:
    <application xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/2.5">.
    If you are using Flash Builder 4.5, you must do the following:
    Download the Flex 4.1.0.16076 SDK.
    Download the AIR 2.6 SDK.
    Copy each file from the AIR 2.6 SDK into the corresponding directory within the Flex 4.1 SDK, replacing the Flex original variants.
    To use this SDK within Flash Builder, select your project in the Flash Builder package explorer.
    Choose Project > Properties to open the project's Properties dialog box.
    Select Flex Compiler in the list and then click the "Configure Flex SDKs" link to open the Preferences dialog box.
    Click the Add button, browse to the SDK, and then click OK until you get back to the project's Properties dialog box.
    Click the "Use a specific SDK" option and then pick Flex 4.1 from the drop-down menu.
    You must also replace the default WindowedApplication element with Application in your project's MXML file.

  • Spell check for kids using flash

    I am creating a spell check for kids using flash.
    The flash starts with a silhouettes of a word say B A N A N A and below it shows a jumbled up letters. The kids drags and drops each letter on top of the dark silhouettes. If it matches scores points.
    Any help in creating AS3 script will be apreciated. I did create one using mc and target mc and works fine when the mc is draged on to target mc. Only problem arises when there are duplicate letters.
    Thanks in advance

    What I described will work as you describe wanting.  If every A movieclip has a property (name this property anything you want, like "myLetterValue")  with a value of "A" and every A-target movieclip also has a property with a value of "A", then you can use those properties to determine when any object with an "A" is planted on any target with an "A"
    So when you drop a letter on a target you compare the property of each to see if they are equal...  if(targetMC.myLetterValue == letterMC.myLetterValue){  // correct match  }
