How do I customize my desktop pictures?

I'd like to rotate through different desktop pictures - and love some of the pictures provided. But I'd like to select which ones I want, and maybe add some. How can I do that?

Think I've found the answer!  Thanks anyway!

  • How do I change my Desktop Picture to a solid color?

Hello folks, I'm trying to change my desktop picture to a solid black color in Leopard. How do I do that? I went into the desktop preferences under System Preferences but under solid colors, they do not have black. And I have no idea how to add more colors to the few selections there. Can someone help me out please? Thank you.

That's one idea, they have a solid black .png file on there, and you can either set it as your desktop and tile it, or follow their instructions.

  • HOw do I change the desktop pictures on macbook air?

I simply can not change the desktop pictures on my macbook air. If anyone  knows please help. Thanks.

Right-Click Desktop, Choose "Change Desktop Background..."
There you can choose the desktop image. If you want a custom one,
    Choose "Set Desktop Picture".

  • How do I change the desktop picture on *all* windows with Lion?

I'm sure I'm just missing a simple setting, but ...  I changed the desktop background to something I found I thought I'd like, using right click/use as desktop background.  Didn't like it.  Went to System prefs to change it, and selected the Pond Reeds pic that comes preloaded with Lion.  Great!  Except it only changed it to that in one workspace.  All the others still have the background I don't like, and going to each workspace, right clicking and choosing "change desktop picture" just shoots me back to the system prefs workspace and doesn't change anything.  What's the right answer   (It's an older MacBook Pro, but running Lion, just upgraded to it a few days ago.)

Thank you!!!  I knew it must be something simple, that I just haven't had time to figure out yet (the day after I upgraded, my son went into the hospital and had to have heart surgery, so I haven't spent a lot of time getting to know Lion.).  Your help is much much appreciated!

  • Aperture - Once pic is in here how can you save as desktop picture ?

    Thanks

You want save a photo you have in Aperture as a desktop photo? If so it would be like adding any other picture as a desktop picture.
System Preferences-Desktop & Screen Saver-Desktop tab- then on the left side navigate to your Aperture library and locate the picture you want.

  • How can you disable "set desktop picture" from the finder contextual menu

I teach high school.  And MUST find a way to keep my students from changing their desktops.
First I basically got rid of Firefox when it had that feature in the Tiger days.
Then for Leopard I had to create dummy "locked" Safari Desktop Picture files for all my user accounts so the kids couldn't use Safari to set their desktop pictures.
NOW I discover (maybe this was here before) Snow Leopard lets you change the desktop right from the Finder itself!  Just right click on any image file and the contextual menu  will give them the option to "set desktop picture".
Come on Apple, every educator I know has complained about what a distraction and constant battle images are for students who use computers.  While not all students are inappropriate, quite a few are...meaning no one can be allowed the privilege.  Why is this such a huge battle to try and lock down?  Please allow Parental Controls or Server managed preferences to keep our students from being able to change their desktop pictures, ever, at all, from anywhere or any program.
Does anyone know if this is even possible?

The only way (I have found) to shut down using Safari's "Use Image as a Desktop Picture" feature is to create a bunch of blank documents that the users have no permission to change (i.e. set permission to only allow, say YOU to read it and no access to write to it for anyone)
Create a number of these blank documents and rename them
    Safari Desktop Picture.jpg
    Safari Desktop Picture.tiff
    Safari Desktop Picture.gif
    Safari Desktop Picture.jpeg
    Safari Desktop Picture.png
(you get the point....come up with as many .3 extensions of photo files that you can think of)
Put these locked and unchangeable files into the following directory of each of your student accounts
    Macintosh HD/Users/~User Name/Library/Safari/
What this does is create a bunch of dummy files that will "block" Safari (or the system or user) from trying to replace them.  Even though the right click comman will still be there, Safari will not be able to put the picture in the correct part of the system for it to be used as a Desktop Picture.

  • How do I customize my background picture?

I would like to add my personal photo as my background. Anyone know how I can do this?
Also I just noticed that Apple works has been Cached on my computer. Any idea of how to get it back?

    Welcome to the discussions, yihh.
In the second tab of the inspector, you'll find the "Page" information. At the bottom of this tab is an area for "Page Background". Change this to Image Fill and you'll be asked to supply an image.

  • Desktop Pictures and Dual Monitors

I have a "stock" 1.6 GHz G5 with 1 GB factory RAM running OS 10.4.3. I have two monitors hooked up to the factory video card, one a Sony CRT Multiscan G500 and the other a Dell LCD (1680 x 1050). When I initially hooked up my new Dell LCD, I had two different desktop pictures, one for the CRT and one for the LCD. This was kind of nice! However, after a restart, I now have the same desktop picture on both monitors. Any suggestions as to how I may customize my desktops, with one set of pictures for the CRT and another for the LCD??? The computer guys here at work say it can be done but don't now how. Thank you!

I have three monitors and run different pictures on all three. Go to Preferences, desktop & screen savers. You can select a folder of pictures or one picture.

  • Do Desktop Pictures live in a dedicated folder?

For some reason, I'm having trouble understanding where the various Desktop pictures I've used (which I see as a group of thumbnails whenever I select a new photo for the Desktop) actually reside.
I'd expect to find them in a dedicated sub-folder, but I don't see one in the most likely location (Pictures folder).
If Desktop Picture files are organized in some other way than being grouped in their own folder, what is that method and how does the user control it (i.e., for adding, deleting, moving those picture files)?
    Thanks.

Look in the Desktop Pictures folder of the Library; most of them are in the Library at the top level of the hard disk, but some may be in your home folder.
They all seem to be in my User Library (the ones in the top level Library are the factory defaults).
If I create a dedicated sub-folder for these, are there still pointers to them so I can easily switch between them for the Desktop picture? Or do they have to be in a specific location to be selectable in that way (for the D/T picture)?
BTW, how does one view the Desktop Pictures (as a group) without selecting a new one? I don't recall seeing the thumbnail grouping except when I right-click on a photo to select a new D/T picture. I don't know how to otherwise view them 'as a group.'
    Thanks again.

  • Client Desktop Picture

I have set up a Mac Network with OS X Server 10.4.7 and all clients running
OS X 10.4.7. How do I force a desktop picture when a user logs in? It is
always defaulting to Aqua Blue. I have renamed Aqua Blue on the local
machine and this change the desktop picture for the logon screen, but when
the user logs on, back comes Aqua Blue!
I have also tried the same trick at the server - in case it was getting it
from there - with no joy. How do I set the desktop without logging on as
each user. I am going to have hundreds of them!
After further playing around I have found that any user that has not logged
on before will get the new "Aqua Blue" that I have set. But if a user has
logged on to the machine at any time before the old Aqau Blue is the Desktop
picture. Even when the old Aqua Blue has been deleted from the machine!
Where does OS X keep this setting for users?

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.plist should hold the Desktop background preference. Try deleting that file in a test account to see if you get the desired effect. If you do, you can recursively delete the desktop preference file from the home directories of the users you want to fix:
-Navigate to the /Users folder (or wherever you have home directories on your server) in the Terminal.
-Execute "sudo rm -ri */Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist". You will be asked for your admin password, and then asked to confirm each deletion. You can skip the users which are working correctly, or just answer "y" to each query and get them all.

  • How do I change my profile picture?

I'm a long term subscriber, The 4 songs out of the first 5 I saved to my spotify account became my profile picture. Two of the 4 pictures are the same band. I like these songs but dont feel they represent my true musical taste or favorites. How can I customize my profile picture?
Edit - My apologies, I think I posted this in the wrong forum, I'm using the downloadable Spotify app for PC. Mods please move if need be.

    Hi,
    Also, just to add:
There is an idea for being able to edit your profile picture without connecting to facebook here. It has been marked as Not right now as they have other priorities right now but that doesn't mean they won't come back to it in the future.
There is also an idea for customising playlist pictures and info here.
Feel free to add Kudos and comment on them to show your support!

  • Change login picture to match desktop picture

    In Leopard
I want to create a script that will set the login screen background to be the same image as my desktop picture. It will be easy to SET the new login background because all you have to do to change the login screen background picture is change the file
    /System/Library/CoreServices/DefaultDesktop.jpg
What I need to find out is how to GET the current desktop picture.
Does anybody have any idea how to do this part of it?
    Thanks.

Run the following from the Script Editor, which is in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder:
    tell application "Finder"
    desktop picture
    end tell
If you want to add the code to a shell script, use:
osascript -e 'tell application "Finder"' -e 'set the_pic to get desktop picture as alias' -e 'end tell' -e 'POSIX path of the_pic'

    Oh!
First thing I think would be to do a search for the folder in case it's somehow got moved.
Failing that, you can retrieve the folder from your original installer disc using Pacifist.
Insert the disc (don't boot from it) and open the installer package with Pacifist. Navigate to the Desktop Pictures folder (might be a bit more fiddly to find in the package structure). When you find it, select the folder, right-click (or ctrl-click) and select 'install in default location' from the context menu.
Exit Pacifist and eject the disc.
    Best of luck!

  • My desktop picture is stuck in the stretch mode and I can't seem to change it. How do I change it?

my desktop picture is stuck in stretch mode and I can't seem to change it.  Help!!

Hewlett Packard already knew about this problem and they have also published a fix to solve the problem of wallpaper stucking on stretch mode. Download the hot fix from the ftp site here: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45501-46000/sp45575.exe. This package changes the Wallpaper Picture Position function from Stretched to Fill, Fit, Tile, or Center.
