How do I disable this feature? As you're opening a new tab or typing in the Awesome Bar, Firefox will check to see if you already have that site open. If you do, you'll be directed to the existing tab so you don't open a duplicate.
When I am in my classroom where I am teaching, I sometimes open a duplicate tab so I can go back and forth while I am grading. This gives me the assignment and grade book open at the same time. This is much faster than opening and closing the two screens as I have to do when I can't open a duplicate site.
If I cannot disable this feature, can I undo this upgrade and return to the previous version? Thanks for your help.

When you enter a site in the URL/Location/Address bar and see "Switch to tab" in the drop-down, you can
*use ALT+Enter to open the new (duplicate) tab anyway
*use CTRL+left-click on the original tab and drag it until you see an up arrow from below the break point between two tabs, then release the left-click key, then release the CTRL key to get a duplicate of the tab with all of its history (Back/Forward)
*press the Shift key while an entry in the drop down list is highlighted to disable "Switch to Tab" and see the URL.
*Use the cursor Right key to select an item marked as Switch to Tab in the drop down list and copy the URL to the location bar.
*Open the URL in the current tab by using Shift + Enter on the highlighted entry.

If you have set Google to be your homepage, that should be the first one to appear. Are you seeing the Firefox home page when you open new tabs? New tabs should be blank by default. The only reason I've seen Firefox open new tabs with Firefox data on it is after an upgrade of the product. -
My sons iPhone is under my apple id. He completed a software update earlier and now receives my text messages I send and receive- how do I disable this feature??
This happens when you both use the same Apple ID for iMessage. You can continue to share the same ID for pruchasing from the iTunes & App stores, but you should be using a different ID for iMessage. To fix this you have two choices:
On one of the phones go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a different ID (so you are both using a different ID for iMessage); or
On both phones go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and uncheck the email address(es) shown under "You can be reached by iMessage at". Also uncheck anyone else's phone number, if present. -
For example, I saved a jpeg named 'picasso the guitarist'. I have folders titled A to Z. When I click 'save as' it might open the 'K' folder and I have to manually search the 'P' folder for 'Picasso' and save file. The most irritating thing is, when I 'save as' another jpeg of say 'pieter mother & child' it goes to another folder and does not remain in the 'P' folder, rather it goes to the 'X' folder or some other. This didn't happen before the last upgrade. Can I disable this new 'help' feature that is taking more time than the old version?
Current Firefox versions remember the download directory based upon the URL, so if the URL changes then the default folder may be chosen if there hasn't been selected a download folder before for that server.

How can I disable a pop up box that appears whenever I tap a cell in numbers for ios? This annoying feature accompanied the last upgrade. When I tap a cell to highlight it, a box pops up with all the words typed in the adjacent cells so I can populate the cell with one of them, but I neither need nor want the suggestions.

I don't know where to find the setting in Numbers for iOS, but in Numbers for Mac OS X it is under Menu > Numbers > Preferences > General > Editing.
Show suggestions when editing table cells.
As you can see, I don't use it.

Disk unmounting at logoff, how do I disable this feature?
I noticed one of my 120GB single-partition disks, used solely for backing up another 120GB single-partition boot disc, usually appears on my desktop after a short delay when logging in.
It appears that the disk unmounts every time I log out, and then remounts when any user logs in. I have a nightly backup utility that writes to that disc. When I am logged in, it works fine, but when I am logged off, the backup fails because that destination disk is not available.
Every login reveals this message in /var/log/system.log
Jul 8 07:59:38 gossamer diskarbitrationd[43]: disk1s10 hfs 571D9205-D45D-34A3-8E62-FF642016B325 Seagate /Volumes/Seagate
which seems to be the mounting of the disk, as similar messages appear for the other /Volumes only at startup.
So, does anyone have any ideas how to keep this particular disk mounted when a user logs off? It is connected on the same ribbon cable as my bootable 10.4.7 disk on a Sonnet PCI ATA66 card. I don't remember which is Master or Slave, but that's probably not a factor.sudo defaults write

I tried looking at existing defaults with >defaults read
and didn't see any thing to give me an idea of any current setting that I could revert to in case of a problem.

So, I am a little uncomfortable messing with these defaults that I don't fully understand, and not sure how to revert to the existing state.
I found the executeable in /sbin/autodiskmount, not in the /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/autodiskmount path. So that suggestion doesn't fully make sense to me. I agree that it should be possible, as I have other Volumes that remain mounted when any user logs off, they are on the on-board ATA interface. Maybe this is a unique issue with my PCI ATA66 card?

It is used to be that I could right click on the Firefox icon on the toolbar at the bottom of the screen and I would then be given the option to open all windows. Now I only see the option to close all windows. The ability to open all windows is very useful. Have you eliminated this capability? It was a very helpful feature because I often have more than 15 windows minimized at one time. On a regular basis I like to open them all and keep only the ones that I still need. I know that it is possible to see the name of each window that is minimized by moving my cursor over the Firefox icon, but this does not provide enough information. So I have to open each window one at a time to look at it and then decide to close it or keep it - this is a frustrating, time-consuming process. Is there another way to open all the minimized windows at the same time, instead of one at a time?
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

All adobe files now automatically open in firefox web browser, even when opening them from widows explorer. I want all adobe files to be opened in adobe reader as a default. Yet I disable the plugin Adobe Acrobat 11.0.9.29 and it still does this. I can't use firefox this way.
When you open a PDF file that you saved to your computer, by double-clicking the file, does it open with Adobe Reader or with Firefox?
If the PDF file opens with Adobe Reader then follow the instructions in [[How to disable the built-in PDF viewer and use another viewer]] to set Adobe Reader as the application for Portable Document Format (PDF) in your Firefox Options for Applications.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
The "Awesome Bar" is not working. It does not recall anything from the Bookmarks
Just updated to new Firefox. In the past, when I would start to type a site in the address bar firefox would complete it as it was already in my bookmarks. But now it does not do anything. It just sits there waiting for me to complete the address. I could start to type Netf and it automatically finish Netflix.com
Why is this happening. Also, for the first couple days of the new version I had to go back into Tools, Options and reset things at least 3 or 4 times before they would finally stay the way I wanted them.
I would tell it Never Remember History and after while I would look and it would say, Remember History. I wanted a Blank Start page, and it kept changing it. It's okay now but the Awesome Bar is not working at all.Do your bookmarks show up in the auto-suggest drop-down list?

If auto-suggest works but the autofill isn't happening, you could double-check that it has not been disabled here:

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''autof''' and pause while the list is filtered
(3) If the '''browser.urlbar.autoFill''' preference is bold and "user set" to false, double-click it to switch its value back to the default value of true. That should work in new tabs.

I hate the new KitKat upgrade. I hate the messaging white background. I hate the loss of the green blinking light in the left upper corner. I do not know why music plays whenever I get an email. I get hundreds of emails to my device and it plays music and is driving me crazy. How do I disable this? I went through all my settings and cannot find where this may be set.
