How do I find a missing iPhoto library on my MacBook Pro?

When my computer crashed, I bought a new laptop and was able to use data rescue 3 to recover my iPhoto library so on my new laptop I have the old one and also a new blank library where I don't store any photos. I know I should have backed all my photos up but I haven't and now I don't see the library with all my pictures anywhere on my computer. When I try to "switch library" it only shows the blank one. Is there a way to retrieve/find the library I am looking for?

I'm not sure that this is actually possible. Apps like Data Rescue are very good for recovering files, but and iPhoto Library isn't a file. It's a rather complex ecosystem of interlocking files, folders, databases and metadata. I believe that data recovery apps can recover the files, but not the ecosystem and after using such apps you need to make a new library and start over from scratch. Therefore, when recovering photos it's important to always choose the largest file size as that has the best chance of being the original file.
now I don't see the library with all my pictures anywhere on my computer.
Where are you looking? How?
When I try to "switch library" it only shows the blank one.
This would tend to support me belief, above.

  • How can I move my iPhoto Library from my MacBook Pro to my iMac or hard drive??

How can I move my iPhoto Library from my MacBook Pro to my iMac or to my external hard drive? 'Help' is not helping!!

    To move to another machine:
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
To move to an external disk:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • How can I back up my iPhoto library to my MacBook?

How can I back up my iPhoto library to my MacBook?

backup all your data to an external hard drive.  If your mac's hard drive crashes, anything not backed up to an external hard drive will most likely be lost.

  • Transferring iPhoto library from old MacBook Pro to new Mini

I am trying to transfer via Wifi the iPhoto library from my MacBook Pro (10.7.5) to new Mac Mini (10.9).  Finder will not move the file to the new machine because it says I do not have the correct permissions.  iPhoto on the mini can see but will not open the iPhoto Library on the old mac.  Any ideas?? Thanks!

see > How to migrate data from another Mac using Mountain Lion and earlier
Personally If I was only wanting to copy photos, I would copy the old iPhoto Library to an external hard drive and then import them from the external hard drive into iPhoto on the new computer.

If you registered it, go to http://supportprofile.apple.com and sign in with your Apple ID. It should also be on the box it came in if you still have it.

  • How do I find my old iPhoto Library?  It disappeared.

    Hello,
iPhoto was frozen for a few days (it wouldn't move past the grey, loading screen).  I forced it to a quit a couple times to no avail.  I finally updated my software from the Apple drop down box and the computer restarted.  After it restarted, it said that it needed an iPhoto Library and therefore I needed to make/name a new one.  I assumed it would still keep my photos and I was just renaming it b/c of the software update.  Not at all.  It is a brand new library, neither my old one OR my 1600 pictures are nowhere to be found.
I used spotlight, finder, searched for named photos/events, searched our users, hard drive, just about everything.  I have also tried to rebuild the libaray, it only rebuilds the few new photos I recently imported onto the new library from an iphone.  It does not rebuild or bring back any of 1600 photos from my old library.  I have also tried pressing command and option to choose a different libaray for default, but my old one is nowhere to be found.
Honestly I'm pretty lost.  I don't know how anyone could've "accidently" deleted 1600 photos that quickly.  Is there a virus that just targets iPhoto?  My MacBookPro and all of my other programs (Skype, Word, iTunes, etc.) work completely fine.
Obviously, I think this all happened during the software update.  Could iPhoto have saved my 1600 photos in some type of locked format that I can't access?
PLEASE HELP.  I have NO backup and am just about at my wits end.  I do not want to lose 1600, irreplaceable photos.

I'm afraid the most likely explanation is that some inadvertently overwrote or deleted the iPhoto Library.
As you have no backup you're only hope now is file recovery software like File Salvage

  • How can I copy my iPhoto library from my MacBook Pro to my IMac

I use my 13" MBP in my van for business and store my job photos on it using iPhoto. I would like to keep a copy of my entire MBP iPhoto library on my iMac also.
I do have a 2tb time capsule that I use to back up both computers. Is there a way to connect the two units and copy the complete library from the MBP to the iMac, without losing any content. Will all my albums be listed exactly as they are on the MBP. The library contains 19,000 + photos , or about 23 gbs of data.
I just recently made the switch to all Apple gear and love it, but I do need some assistance with this matter. Thanks
    Mark

Sure - Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the MBP to the pictures folder of the iMac - launch iPhoto on the iMac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.

  • Transferring iPhoto library from old MacBook Pro to new Yosemite Mac Mini

Please can someone help me figure out how to do this correctly? My old Macbook (4-5 years old) died and I ended up buying a Mac Mini the other day. The store backed my old iPhoto library up for me on an external hard drive. I simply transferred the library across to the new Mac and opened up iPhoto. However, everything is out of sync- no albums etc, plus for some reason tons of photos with people in them now have been duplicated with just close up head shots. Something I have never created. Strange.
I followed the instructions when prompted with this message....'The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto.' But just as I think it has been upgraded, I then get this message 'The photo “edit1.jpg” could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found.' So I press cancel, but then it reappears for so many photos that I just give up.
What to do?! Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Dd you download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader?
And did if then open and upgrade the library?
The Mac store did a complete back up of my old Mac on an external disk, but I have a feeling that maybe the library backup within this just isn't right.
There are two ways, your photos could be missing.
Either the iPhoto library has a corruption, iPhoto cannot find the photos inside the library. Then rebuilding the library can help, see Terence Devlin's post:  iMac iPhoto Media library
Try both options 1 and 2 from the post, if the first did not solve it.
The photos may really be missing in the library, but still be somewhere in the home folder backup on your backup drive. First try connecting the missing files by rebuilding as described above. If still files are missing after that, search for them on your backup like this: When you get a warning, that xxxx.jpg is missing, search for that photo on your backup with Find Any File. If you are lucky, all photos are in the same set of folders: You can download Find Any File here: The trial is free: http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/index.htmlhttp://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/index.php
Find Any File can search inside packages, where Spotlight will not search.

  • I can't open iPhoto library on my Macbook Pro. It says to upgrade and I have upgraded and updated it. Any suggestions?

I cant open iPhoto library since I upgraded it. I says to upgrade to latest version. I have the latest version and have done an update. Any suggestions?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto. (You'd be surprised what some folks call the "latest version")
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Copying iPhoto Library to new MacBook Pro

I have recently bought a new MacBook Pro primarily to use when travelling. I also have a iMac which will continue to be my main mac. I naively thought that by using Migration Assistant I'd be able to copy/transfer all the stuff I have on my iMac (iTunes Library, iPhoto Library etc....) to the MacBook Pro but it's clearly not as simple as that.
Can someone please help me to get the content on my iMac to the Pro and is there a way to update any new photos etc automatically from my iMac to the Pro? It's worth adding that I also have a Time Capsule which is used for backing up from the iMac.
    All help gratefully appreciated!!

I don't know what problems you've had, but I was able to do that with Migration Assistant.
    To move your Library:
    1. Connect the two Macs together
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder on the iMac to the same location on the new one.
    3. Launch iPhoto.
That's all there is to it..
is there a way to update any new photos etc automatically from my iMac to the Pro?
Yes, simply use the Pro as a back up location and back the library up using an app like DejaVu.
However, this will work only as long as you use the Pro as a back up for the iMac. If you add photos to the Pro and then try and sync the two you may damage either Library.
Alternatively, you can use iPhoto Library Manager to move Photos, Events and Albums, plus associated metadata between Libraries.

  • How do i find my Apple Parts Numbers for my Macbook Pro?

I have a macbook pro, 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo. Model number is A1212.
I was wondering how I could find out what the correct apple part number is for a replacement top case. (the place where you put the keyboard).
I have no problem replacing the case, I just need to know what the part number is.
I also have another top case that I ordered off ebay and I would like to know how to find the correct apple part number for that case as well.

A1212 is not your model number. Check here for model numbers:

    Check here for parts:

But for Apple part numbers you may need to call ifixit or contact Apple.

  • Cant copy over iPhoto Library to new Macbook Pro (Retina 15")

So I tried migrating everything to a new Macbook Pro, all in all it was successful, but when I tried to start iPhotos up, the iPhoto Library got corrupt during the Library Upgrade process. I then copied my original iPhoto Library file (90GB) to an ext. harddrive to try again, but when I tried to copy that (original)  file on to the Macbook Pro, the computer kept telling me that there is not enough free space. This dont seem right to me, given that I have 175GB free space available out of 256GB.
Does anyone know why this is happening? Is it because of the large file size? Is there a way to copy this file on to the machine? I've never ran into a size limit for files before, but then again, I cant remember the last time I tried to copy a 90GB file.
Any people would be greatly appriciated!

Yeah thats all fine, and everything is backed up. but I dont want to link the library to an ext drive.
I actually got it working in a really convoluted way:
I opened the iPhoto Library Package and copied the MODIFIED and ORIGINALS folders (these were the largest sized folders) over seperately from the rest of the Library. There seems to be some sort of size limit to Mountian Lion that wont let you copy files that are larger then 24GB in size (maybe an SSD thing?). So I copied over everything to the desktop, and then put all the folders back in the package. That worked like a charm!
*I wouldnt recommend this method to a novice. Its imperative that everything goes back in the right place, or you can destroy your Library.
I guess if I didnt do it this way, I could have also tried CCC, or time machine, which I believe circumvent this size restriction.

  • How can I find the serial number of my stolen MacBook Pro?

    Hi,
I had my 2009 Macbook Pro stolen about 10 months ago. I didn't think I'd see it again until last last it showed up on my "Find My Phone" App, in Vietnam.
I locked it straight away and sent a message to the screen with my email address.
The person who had it worked at a computer shop and contacted me straight away.
He understands its stolen and wants to help but he will only give it to the police. And the Vietnamese police want my serial number to proove its mine before they will send it back to me.
I don't have a copy of the recpiet or serial number. I've been to the iStudio where I bought it and thier records start 1 month after I purcahsed it.
I've tried the https://supportprofile.apple.com page and for some reason my macbooks are not registered on there. All my other apple products are.
Is there any other way I can retrieve my serial number?
It's conected to the icloud and the app and I've made puchases on iTunes from it.
Any help would be very much appreciated
    Many Thanks

    No.
