How do I fix a randomly disappearing mouse pointer in Lion 10.7.2

I'm experiencing random a dissappearing mouse pointer on my MacMini 2010 running Lion 10.7.2 and magic mouse with an LG HDMI monitor.

There has been another onging discussion since July on this topic. No resolution yet. I finally ditched my BT mouse and went to a wired mouse because the jumping was driving me nuts.

What's wrong? My mouse pointer hides from me.

    Hello butterbean8,
More information is needed before we can start trying to diagnose.
    What make / model computer?
    What operating system?
Does the mouse left alone disappear or are you clicking on something and then it just disappears?
How do you normally resolve the issue?
How is your mouse connected to your computer?
One screen or two screens? If one, have you ever used two?

  • Disappearing mouse pointer when resuming from sleep

I am having an issue where my X1-Carbon Touch returns from sleep, the mouse pointer is not visible.  I can see the items being highlighted.  The touch screen works fine.  Eventually for unknown reasons it finally re-appears.  Sometimes a couple of minutes sometimes over an hour.  Restarting the machine fixes the problem, but it is a real pain.
OS: Windows 8 Pro, with most recent Windows update

    Hi, littlejohnjt
This sounds like it may be an issue with the UltraNav driver. I would recommend opening the Charms Bar and selecting Search and typing Device Manager into the Search box. Lastly, select Settings beneath the Search box to filter by settings instead of programs. Once in Device Manager, open the tree for Mice and other pointing devices. Right-click on the device that appears in the tree and select Properties. From here, navigate to the Driver tab and select Uninstall... from the bottom of the list and then follow the prompts. After the device is uninstalled, restart the machine. This process allows Windows to install a generic driver, which may help your issues. If it does, I would try installing the Synaptics mouse and keyboard driver found here, as it has helped others with similar issues in the past.
    Hope it helps,
    Adam

  • The case of the disappearing mouse pointer

I use Keynote 3 several times a week to make up my presentations for work.
I use my eMac at home, running Panther (my work place uses Windows) and then I transfer the completed file over my home network to my iBook. I take my iBook to work, hook it up to a projector and give the presentation.
Lately, an interesting fault has arisen.
Say I'm making up a slide. Suddenly, my mouse pointer disappears.
I can physically wriggle the mouse and so on but I still can't see the pointer.
I used to save my work using "command S" and then re-open the file and the mouse pointer would be there again.
I now don't bother closing the file. I just twirl the mouse around a bit and the pointer eventually appears, usually from underneath the dock or, up in the file menu somewhere. Yes, that's right. Very weird. The mouse pointer seems to disappear under the window of the Keynote program.
Everything seems to work OK for a while and then it happens again.
    This is getting really annoying.
I can't figure out if it's an eMac fault or a Keynote problem.
I don't seem to be able to reproduce the fault when I use my iBook (running Tiger) to make up a presentation.
Has anyone else come across this fault before?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hello Brie
I apologise for not replying sooner. I've been away.
I tried your suggestion but it didn't make any difference.
I've just done 6 presentations over the last week and everything worked fine.
However, last night, I was making up a presentation and again, the mouse pointer disappeared.
    Stange!
I think it is a bug in the program.
    Anyway, thanks for the reply
    Regards
    JN

  • What's with the mouse pointer in Lion?

Ever since upgrading my Mac mini to Lion, I am seeing many instances of the wrong mouse pointer being displayed. It may be a hand when it should be an arrow or vice versa. It may be a diagonal window resizing arrow when it should be a hand.
I can't detect any pattern to this. It's just wrong a large part of the time.
Never had this problem under Snow Leopard.

I know I'm late to this post as it was posted back in 2012 but I'm having the exact same issues.  Any others have this problem and if so, any remedy to this?

  • How do I fix? Keyboard and mouse cannot enter data on IMAC

Both my wireless mouse and my wired keyboard cannot enter data. They are frozen out. But a wired mouse will work through the USB port on the back of my keyboard.

  • How do I fix bluetooth connection between mouse and keyboard with iMac. iPhone won't connect to bluetooth either

Bluetooth on Mac os x won't work with keyboard, mouse or iphone.  Keyboard and mouse both have new batteries and go discoverable when switched on, i have gone into system setup and tried connecting.  It connects briefly with mouse then drops in and out of connection, keyboard does same, asking for passcode then no connection.  I'm lost... my phone can pick up keyboard, so i think it is bluetooth in mac.

    Go to ~/LIbrary/Preferences
Move the com.apple.Bluetooth.plist file to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.
    Try re "pairing" the keyboard.

  • HT3805 buy book feature not working "a connection could not be established at this time etc...." How do I fix this? I am running Mountain Lion with Aperture 3.3.2

I have the same problem as many of you on this forum,
Aperture will not allow me to buy a book. It says a connection could not be established at this time.
I have a 2011 17in MBP, running Mountain Lion, Apertaure 3.3.2 purcahsed from the App Store, a 100Mb network connection, based in Staffordshire UK. It acts the same over wifi or ethernet, e.g a connection could not be established at this time.  It makes no difference if I am signed into the App store or not.
I have spent 5 days preparing my Wedding album images for a 30 page book with lots of adjustments, therefore, I am desperate to fix this and as I paid £55 for the software I want it to work.
    Can anyone help?
    Regards
    Tim

I still don't know what happened to my test Aperture Library after the update to 3.4...Not only were my previews lost, but so were the original images!  Needless to say, I haven't bothered to update the main library on the Mac Pro because I don't want to deal with this level of uncertainty (even with backups in place).

  • How do I fix Time Machine from crashing in mountain lion

    Hi,
I recently had to wipe my SSD on my rMBP as I couldn't partition the drive in order to install Bootcamp. I managed to eventually erase the drive and setup a new partition for Windows. I then reinstalled Mountain Lion via the internet and hooked the computer up to my Time Capsual to do the restore. Restore did not restore to my latest backup and when I go to time machine to do a restore I am getting 2 things happen:
    1) Dates of retre points are all listed in Purple.
    2) Unable to select any of these dates as the software appears to freeze.
Anyone know why this is happening?
    Thanks

Another option to check your backups is through the Finder window.
Connect the external HD to Mac - or connect to the IP address where the HD is connected to (GO-Connect to Server).
-In the HD you will find the backups.backups folder - folder of your Mac - folders of each back up.

  • How do I fix the App Store app in mountain lion which has become corrupted and won't update!

I can no longer access the App Store so cannot update my system. Ant Ideas?

In Finder hold down the option/alt key while selecting the Go menu item. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you want to make your user library permanently visible, run the below command in Applications/Terminal.
    chflags nohidden ~/Library/
You will need to do that after any updates.

    Cauld,
Thanks!    So far the Ctrl-Alt-Del then Escape brings back my mouse pointer.
Obviously, I'm not going to mark this as a solution but at least you've saved me from having to reboot frequently. I appreciate your participation.
    Steven,
This error is unrelated to the physical mouse being plugged in. It happens in tablet and laptop mode,  I've tried to follow my actions to determine when it disappears but as far as I can tell it's random.  Suddenly I'll go to do something and I no longer have a arrow on my screen.  If I move my finger around the touch pad I can tell it's still calculating where the mouse pointer is located but there's no image to confirm the location.
I have experienced freezing but only when I try to close an application in full screen mode using the system menu icon on the top left. It usually will trigger some form of the left swipe for active programs. Instead of the normal program images I get a small square in the top left and it freezes for about a minute.  I'm trying to relearn my habit of exiting a program by using the top right title bar icon.
So,  Lenovo support, please keep open the disappearing mouse pointer report. I'm willing to accept the possibility it is a software app conflict and will let you know if I can track down the cause.
    Thanks,
    Bill
    Thanks Bill,
I will keep an eye open should I experience the same kind of issue, so far I have not.

  • How do I make the mouse pointer bigger?

How do you go about making the mouse pointer bigger on the IMAC?

I think it is much easier for learners, but can I suggest these forums are excellent for general help.   However, do find a moment to fill in your machine details in your profile; model identifier, current OS version and RAM figure.   It's a great help to those helping you to know what machine they are needing to think about.

  • My contacts are randomly disappearing on my iPhone. How do I fix it?

My contacts are randomly disappearing on my iPhone. How do I fix it?

It could be something with your iCloud. Go to iCloud.com, sign in, and see if your contacts are there. If they are, then try going into Settings > iCloud and turning off Contacts, restart your phone, then turning Contacts back on again. If that doesn't work, delete your iCloud account from your phone, and add your iCloud account back on. If THAT doesn't work, go to settings > reset > reset network settings, reconnect to your wifi network, and that should do it.

  • My bookmarks keep disappearing at random, and will also disappear every time I try to organize them into folders. How can I fix this?

I use Firefox 3.6.20 on a Macbook. Almost every bookmark I attempt to save will disappear immediately after doing do. Also, when I'm trying to organize my bookmarks into folders, doing so often makes the bookmarks disappear as well, rather than placing them in the selected folder. The action of dropping them in a folder will either multiply the bookmark into three bookmarks, or make it go away completely. How can I fix this?

The Views menu in the Bookmarks Manager (Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks) is for displaying the bookmarks in different sorting orders (hence the name Views) and doesn't sort bookmarks permanently.
In Firefox the option to sort bookmarks is only available for folders and not for individual bookmarks.<br />
Easiest to sort by name is to do that in the left pane of the Bookmarks Manager (Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks) and right-click the folder that you want to sort.

  • How can I fix a problem witht my mouse pointer when it randomly gets very large?

When I am using Firefox, at seemingly random times, my mouse pointer suddenly turns extra large. The only "fix" I have found is rebooting the computer.

Thank you, this seems to have done the trick! Many thanks to all who took the time to reply.
