  • HT2188 How can I fix the home button on my iPod touch?

I have a 4th generation iPod touch that is about almost 2 years old. I've never dropped it on a hard surface like concrete or hardwood floors, just a few times on my carpet. It's never been scratched, never had water damage or anything like that. It's in pretty good condition, and runs pretty smoothly, except my home button doesn't work!
I know several people with the same iPod who have similar problems - their home button doesn't work. When I'm in an app, like the Music app, and I hit the home button to get back to my home screen, it doesn't work.
I've looked it up on the internet - I've seen several videos on YouTube (like turning the iPod off, entering an original app like Weather or Notes and then holding the lock button down until the "slide to power off" button came up, and then holding the home button down until it went away to 'calibrate' the home button, and locking my iPod and then clicking the lock screen and home button at the same time - which worked for me a few times, but after like a day or two, the button stopped working) and I've also Googled it and heard that rubbing alcohol on a q-tip would clean any gunk out from underneath the home button. I've never tried the alcohol one out of fear that I'd really ruin the button.
I've also read that there might be dust under there or gunk that should be cleaned by a professional...
But my dad says that it's too tight of an area around the button for anything to get lodged under there. I am currently updating the iPod to iO5 or whatever the new update is to see if it makes any difference.
I'm just trying this forum as a last result to see if there is anyone out there with a similar problem that has fixed it themselves to quell the problem permanently. If not, then I suppose I'll be forced to take it to the Apple Store and see if they can fix it.
I did have the 1 year warranty, but alas, I did not start having these problems until recently.

  • How can I fix the home button on a phone that doesn't have a working power button?

My girlfriends phone was fine then all of a sudden the home button don't work and we knew the power button doesn't work but I need help trying to fix the home button?

Make a backup, then restore it as new, via iTunes.
If that fails, then contact Apple to get the device serviced/replaced.

  • How do i fix a home button that keeps pressing itself

My home button keeps pressing itself at random times without me even touching or holding the device. When I press the home button itself once in awhile it works, most of the time it doesn't. I've already done all the possible quick fixes suggested online (rotating the home button, pushing upwards with the charger in, resetting to factory settings, etc.) with no success. I've spoken with two apple geniuses and they both told me I'd need to replace the home button and display since they are "connected." A friend insists the apple geniuses are BSing me and that only the home button needs to be replaced. A simple search online shows the home button and display are not connected as one piece. I tried to be very frank with the second genius to get a straightforward real answer and he still insisted both would need to be replaced. Am I missing something? I'm very wary of trying to solve the problem myself since the genius kept reminding me if I were to attempt to fix it myself apple would not be able to help me at all after that if I should fail. I've seen tutorials online but there are many home button problems (not responsive at all, not clicking) that are common yet different from mine. Has anyone every had a similar problem? Am I missing something about the display and home button being connected somehow? Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated and hopefully sooner rather than later; since I'm tired of my voice control being activated and embarrassingly calling random people (especially ones I haven't spoke to in years!). Thanks in advance !

Yes yes I understand the risks of apple not touching my phone after I've handled it myself. Apple is asking for an amount just shy of what I paid for the phone and the warranty is up so.. What I was really trying to ask for is advice from anyone who has opened an iPhone 5 themselves or is knowledgeable in the areas of iphone surgery so they could tell me a bit more about the home button and display being connected. I have no set plans to do this myself or to ask anyone else to as of now, I simply just want to understand the problem more since both geniuses were very vague. Although... I think I may have stepped into the wrong forum for this info as most seem to be valiant guardians of apple inc. Thanks much for what responses there were though.
    1. You didn't pay anywhere near $269 or $129 USD + tax for your iPhone 5.  If you bought it from a carrier and got a 'discount', that 'discount' was repaid as part of your contract.  It's 'deferred' payment, not really a 'discount'.  On average, you 'defer' about $450 when you buy an iPhone from a carrier.  So, take whatever you actually 'paid', and add $450 to it.  That's what the iPhone 5 actually cost you.
    2. The Home Button is an integral part of the display.  Even at an Apple Store, when the display is replaced so is the Home Button, as part of the 'kit'.
    3. Actually, it's more about being guardians for you, not Apple.  We're advising you to avoid something that will void your support from Apple.
There are NO user serviceable parts for an iPhone.  Anything you've seen online is not official, unless it came from Appel directly.

  • How do i fix my home button it has completely stopped working after i dropped it and now its frozen on the apple screen?

so yesterday i dropped my iphone and the home key stopped working. i had to turn the phone completely off to change screens and get back to the home page. today i turned it off to get back to the home screen and now it is frozen on the apple screen. its been like this for about an hour or so. i plugged it into the computer and it still hasnt done anything. i try to reset it but of course since the home button isnt working it wont allow me to do so.
does anyone know what to do besides taking it to apple?

  • Hello, how can i fix my home button, it activates itself all of the time.

my iphone has a mind of its own! the home button activates its self all of the time. if i am using a app it will go back to the menu, if locked it will open voice command. i have tried reseting, updating it and all of that. its not at all damaged and it started doing it all of a sudden and hasnt stoped for a week now. p.s   I would rather not send it back to apple because their service is awful and very slow, i have already changed it 4 times for various reasons and would rather avoid doing it again. thanks alot if anyone can help, im getting desperate :s

  • When I double click Home button, all of my apps don't show in the bar -- only the four that reside there. Did a reset last night to fix the Home button (it sort of works now) but now this. Any ideas on why I can't do the fast app switch now?

When I double click Home button to change apps quickly, only the four apps that reside on the task bar show. All of my apps would show prior to my reset of the iPad last night (to fix the Home button). Any ideas on how to fix?

My undertanding is that when you double-click the home button, the apps that are shown are those that are currently active.  The reason you are not seeing all of them is that not all of them are active.  Before you can access an app in the multitask bar, it has to be turned on first.  As a test, try accessing the Notes application.  Return to the home screen by clicking the Home button ONCE.  Once the home screen appears, double click the home button to bring up the multitasking bar.  The Notes app should be on the far left.
