How do I fix quality of photos in iMovie from iPhoto?

I am a first time poster here and I'm not very technical with computers but if someone could please explain this to me simply I'd be very appreciative. When trying to make a slideshow from pictures I took, with all the effects and such in iMovie, I'm trying to use pictures that I have in iphoto but they turn out to be not the quality that they appear in iphoto. I use an Olympus C-720 digital camera if that helps. They appear clear in iphoto and once in imovie they are "pixely" and look like when you take a small picture and try and blow it up a lot. Is there an easy way to make it so the pictures are the original quality? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

Hi Monty:
Welcome to the iMovie forum.
When you import your photos into an iMovie project set up for standard NTSC video, the resolution is roughly 640 x 480, in most cases much less resolution than your camera took the image and as displayed in iPhoto.
The imported images can look even worse than the 640 x 480 resolution depending on your playback preview settings, however, the images should look just fine on a TV.
Is your project standard video or HD?
Cheers,
David

  • Loss of quality of photos when importing from iphoto to imovie

A question... When I import high resolution photos from iphoto and look at the preview on imovie HD, the quality is the same great quality that I can see on iphoto. Once I import the photo clip onto imovie, however, the quality is very poor on the imovie playback. This drop in quality is regardless of whether Ken Burns effect is used or not.
I already checked the quality on imovie preferences and it is already selected as the highest quality (default setting)
Any clues as to why the photo image quality should drop to such a poor image when importing a photo from iphoto to imovie?

    Hi L
There are a great difference on photos shown on a Mac with eg. iPhoto or
PhotoShop and what's going to video.
    a. Different resolution. Just the number of lines as the selected type of project
eg: PAL 4x3 = 625 lines ≈ same in pixles (But square not elongated or visa versa)
    b. iMovie "Viewer" is just an approximation. I connected my miniDV Camera
to FW and analog to a TV. Select in pref - Play back via Camera. Now I see
the final quality on my TV. Usally much better.

  • How do I export a video clip to iMovie from iPhoto?

My video clips and photos were imported from my iPhone 5 to iPhoto on my macbook pro.  Using iMovie, I can import the photos from iPhoto but am unable to import the video clips from iPhoto into iMovie.
Is there a way that this can be done?

How are you trying to import from iPhoto to iMovie? The movies in your iPhoto Library should appear in iMovie in the Event Library in the section for your system drive as event "iPhoto Videos".
Here the videos from your iPhoto library should be shown, that you last opened in iPhoto; for example with my version of iMovie (9.0.8) the event library looks like this:
Don't you see the videos there? What is your iPhoto version and iMovie version?
As a workaround to import to iMovie you can always select the video in iPhoto and use "File > Reveal in Finder" to show the movie file and then import to iMovie using the Finder. Caution: When importing from the iPhoto library using the Finder, be sure to import to iMovie using the option "Copy files", not "Move files". Otherwise they will vanish from your iPhoto library.

  • Cannot import photos into iMovie from iPhoto

I have used iMovie for years to make a video (and then a DVD) from my photographs.  The photographs are all in iPhoto events.  In the past, i create a new movie, select photographs for the iMovie browser and drag some of them into the movie work area.  The problem which just came up is that if I drag in 10 pictures, all of the pictures in the movie show as the same image.  They have the correct mixture of portrait and landscape according to what I was dragging in.  If I try to "run" the movie, I just get a blank screen.  I have tried:
    1. Deleting all the pictures and dragging them in again.
    2. Restarting the program. (iMovie).
    3. Rebooting the Mac Book.
    4. Reintalling iLive 11
    5. Deleting the movie and creating a new one.
I had the problem a few week ago and it went away.  Other movies in the library are wokring fine.  I don't have a clue of what to try next.

  • How can I fix a blueish photo?

I have 2 sets of printed photos processed in 2 differents photo labs.
I don't have the negatives any more.
One set of prints was well developed and the colours are good (see photo labelled Picture 1 Good).
The other set of photos was not well developed (see Picture 2 Blueish) and the photos are blueish.
How can I fix these blueish photos?
I am not sure if this could help but Picture 1 was developed in both labs  (see Picture 1 Good, Picture 1 Blueish).
    In advance thank you.
    Environment Information:
    I am running Photoshop 12.1 *64 bit
    Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
    Amount of installed RAM: 6GB
Amount of free disk space:  C:\ - OS and Software disk - Total size:139GB showing 20GB free
    G:\  - Data disk - Total size:1.81 TB showing 437GB free
Make/Model of Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT

    It is possible.
First I used "curves", the blue curve down, the red one up.
Then I used "color balance", "dynamic" and "selective color".
I laid a somewhat brownish layer over the whole picture with very low transparency (12%).
At last I used once more the red curve to remove a reddish color cast in the light areas.
Colors are not 100% the same as in "picture 1 good". I don't know whether that is possible.
The same procedure didn't produce instantly good colors in picture 2, but the tools are the same.
Each picture seems to need individual adjustment.

When you watch on your Mac, it is at or near HD 1920x1080 pixels (about 2 megapixels), depending on the resolution of your screen. Most photos today are 5 megapixels or greater, depending on your camera, but anything over 2 megapixels must be reduced when put in a video.
When you create a DVD, you must further reduce it to 640x480, standard definition. This is about 0.3 megapixels. iDVD will do this for you.
You can fix by creating an HD movie in iMovie. You can Share this using Share/Export Using QuickTime to an MP4 container using the h.264 codec. You can then put this movie on your PS3 using a USB thumb drive.
That should give you good resolution.
(NEVER MIND, YOU SAID PS2 not PS3, my apologies)

  • How can I remove all photos and directories from iPhoto?

How can I remove all photos and directories from iPhoto as if it was a brand new install?
I am new to iPhoto and was unaware of how it works, honestly I still am a little confused as to when pics I am using 1/2 the time, some from iPhoto and some from MyPics.
Anyhow, I am looking to remove all photos from iPhoto because during the migration of all my photos from PC to MAC, somehow my timeline became messed up and all my photos that have been logged my dates since 1998 are now all messed up.
Although all my year folders are still in tact, IE 1998-2006, the subfolders and like pics are all intertwined somehow.
And when I search iPhoto for a given year, photos from 2,4, 8 yrs back show up in 2006.
Anyhow, I have selected and deleted all photos and folders within iPhoto, and then import the desired photos from MyPics, only to have the photos double up in the library. ( The old ones that should be deleted and the new imports)
I simply don't get it, they fill the trash and disappear when it's emptied, then reappear when iPhoto re-opens!
    Can someone help????
I have completely reworked all my photos so that they are all in the correct folders outside of iPhoto, and now I want to import those and only those pics with that file structure.
    IE Structure = YEAR > MONTH > DAY ( or if needed) > DAY/EVENT

Do you want to remove the existing full sized image files also? If so then just drag the iPhoto Library folder from the Pictures folder to the Trash and empty it. But be warned you'll lose all of your image files.
You are dragging the files to the iPhoto Trash bin and then using the iPhoto->Empty Trash menu, right?
In copying your photos to myspace and then back the original capture date may not be retained and then either the created date or modified date will be used by iPhoto. If the files in the current library are the originals from your camera then those have the best chance of retaining the correct Captured Date. You can check that out by dragging the Originals folder from your iPhoto Library folder to the desktop and then trash what remains of the iPhoto Library folder. Then launch iPhoto and it will ask you to create an new library. Then import that Originals folder and it's subfolders by dragging it into iPhoto's open window. You'll keep the same rolls that was. The roll dates may change but you can check the captured date of the files by using the calendar in the Source pane.
You won't be able to keep your folder structure within iPhoto. Each outside folder will result in a roll with the same title as the folder. You'll be able to create folders in the Source pane to put albums inside. You can create a smart album to include all photos in a certain date range, line one month.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • When my photos were moved from iPhoto to Photos in the last system upgrade, they lost all their titles. How can I restore them?

In the latest Yosemite upgrade, my photos were migrated from iPhotos to Photos and lost all their titles. How can I restore them?

There is an Applescript, File Name to Title,  provided by user léonie that will put the file name of any selected photos into the Title field for that photo.  If there already is a title in that field under the thumbnail it will not replace it with the file name.
    tell application "Photos"
      activate
set imageSel to (get selection) -- get a list of selected images
      set counter to 1
      set currentfilename to ""
      if imageSel is {} then
      error "Please select an image."
      else
      repeat with im in imageSel
set title to the name of im
      if not (exists (title)) then
set currentfilename to the filename of im as text -- retrieve the filename of image "Im"
set newname to currentfilename & "." & counter
set counter to counter + 1 -- increment the counter
set the name of im to newname -- write the newname to the title field
      end if
      end repeat
      end if
return currentfilename -- return the filename of the last image
    end tell
Copy the script above, open Applescript Editor and past it into the open window.  Compile and save as an Applescript application.  Put the app in the Applications folder and drag into the Dock. Now you can select images in Photos and launch the app from the Dock and it will do it's thing.  It is a bit slow so can take some time for a large number of images depending on the speed of your Mac.
Just to be on the safe side create an album with a few titled and untitled photos and run it on them.

First, create a Project. Find your photos in the Photo Browser. Drag them into the project.
Find the music you want to use in the Music Browser. Drag it into the project and drop it on the photo at the point where you want the music to start. Alternatively, you can drop the music in the background of the project.

All my old photos are missing from iPhoto on my Mac- any one have ideas on how to retrieve?

Do you have a Time Machine backup or any backup of your Mac? Then you could try to restore from the backup.
If your photos are very important documents, you could also try data recovery software. Usually the trial versions are free, but if you want to safe the recovery photos you have to pay.  Disk Drill works well to recover jPEG photos, see:  http://www.cleverfiles.com/
It is still not obvious what might have happened to your iPhoto Library.  Have you searched for different iPhoto Libraries?
You can search everywhere with FindAnyFile, where Spotlight will not search.
I learned this  from Old Toad , see his post here:
Re: My iPhoto Library disappeared...how do I get it back?
Download and run Find Any File to search for a file with "ThumbJPGSegment" in the file name. These are files common to all versions of  iPhoto libraries.
FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages. If there's a library hiding somewhere on your hard drive FAF will find it.
