How do you get an audio CD to play on a MacBook Pro?

I've actually looked around the site and see others have had the same problem with their mac, unfortunately I don't have the technical expertise or the time to get stuck into the long winded and confusing steps required to sort this problem. There is no option for me to email an Apple worker and I didn't particularly want to post this here, but it seems it's either this or wait two days to have Apple call me... Not what I want at all.
I have a Macbook Pro 13" late 2011, running OSX 10.7.2, which is two months old and in perfect condition. I upgraded from a Toshiba Satellite which cost me under £300 in 2008 and was excellent when it came to playing CDs... Funnily enough.
After paying £999 on an admittedly fantastic laptop I am rather appalled that such an expensive piece of kit would be incapable of playing audio CDs when iTunes seems to be one of the largest selling points of the Macintosh. I am wondering if this fault is intentional as it may force iTunes users to resort to the iTunes store rather than importing CDs?
I'm not expecting a solution to be posted on this thread, at least not one which I am capable of utilising, this is merely an attempt at venting my frustration over the issue seeing as I can't find an option to email Apple directly.
However if anyone reads this and knows of a solution that doesn't involve buying any extra kit (£999 seems to be enough for something to play CDs) or require in depth know-how then that would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, and thanks for getting back to me.
My settings are to open iTunes when an audio CD is inserted and in iTunes my settings are to import it.
With all due respect I'm unwilling to entertain the idea that my drive is faulty, it's only been used a couple of times (plays DVDs perfectly, and I've doubled checked that tonight after the computer failed to recognise audio CDs) and the laptop itself so far has been thoroughly well looked after.
I've looked around the net and there seem to be plenty of people with the same problem as me, it seems unlikely that their machines were all shipped with faulty drives.
From what I understand it seems to be that audio CDs that have the Compact Disc Digital Audio logo printed on the box have no problem playing on a Mac but CDs without that logo will not show up in iTunes or Finder. But going through my collection of CDs none of them seem to have the logo printed on them so perhaps that's an old standard? In which case this issue is a major shortfall of the Macintosh. However my opinion is far from expert and in any case I'm just speculating. The whole issue is confusing and frustrating and I do thank you very much for taking the time to post your help.

I want to use my drum machines and hardware synths through my Mac just like all the plug-in/Virtual Synths... But I don't know how to accomplish this...
I have your standard 1/4" output plugs on my Synth Gear (Hardware) and want to get it to play through core audio like my Virtual Synths do. Also, I'd like to control and record them through my DAW.
What is the best way to accomplish this "feat"?

My question is... isn't the Alesis MultiMix6 a full fledged audio interface?
If you're using Logic Nine you set the Preferences/Audio/Input to the Alesis as it should be your primary recording interface. The output can be set to the Mac's built-in audio. Then the audio outs of the drum machine, (as well as any other audio outs) are plugged into the Alesis.
But here's the thing... why do you spend money on a mixer/audio interface and then try and use the cheap built-in audio of the Mac for anything? The Alesis is designed to be the center hub of the studio.
Your speakers should be plugged into the audio interface so that when using Logic the Alesis is both the Main input and Main output, your audio will sound better. If you need to monitor the Macs output maybe you can set it up in the Mac's audio setup. (monitor the mac through the USB connection.)

I added a video to my PDF by clicking interactive objects > Video. I then needed to convert the video using Adobe media encoder which I did successfully to a .f4v file and now it will not play on my Iphone/Ipad. What sort of player to I need to make these files work?

i updated my itunes to 10.7 and now when i try to watch shows i downloaded from itunes they will play for a little while then the video will freeze and the sound will cut out and several seconds later it will start playing from the point in the video it would have been at if it never froze

To clarify, this is a problem happening on my pc laptop. I have Windows Vista. I just tried re-installing iTunes with the latest download version and that hasn't fixed the problem either. I will log off and back on once and see if that helps. Not sure what other information to provide to help me with this issue.

How do I get h.264 video to play live?

I am on FMS 4.5 and use encoder 3.2. I streamed once and then the server would no longer accept a new stream with the same name. I saw a post that said add &adbe-record-mode=record to the end of a stream name and so I did. This allows me to send a live stream for about 10 to 15 minutes and then it stops. If I restart the server it streams again for another 15 minutes and stops again. My server is using out of the box settings. RTMP streaming to a flash player works great live but not http live streaming.
I know this can't be the encoder. The config file was modified to stream sync=true. I am streaming also to an outside FMS provider and that streams plays fine. I get no info in my log files other than disconnect.
This must be a common problem since my congiuration is out of the box. Do I need to modify settings in the apache server?
I checked the log files again and see this in the logs under edge.log:

Do you have FMS Administrator credentials? If yes - then you can login into Admin Console then navigate to Manage Servers -> License Tab. This would display your edition details.
Now if you dont have Administrator Credentials but if you can access FMS machine - you can check below configs and see if they have some key value set

<LicenseInfoEx> in Server.xml
if both of these values are not set - then it means you dont have any Serial key added during installation or after installation. This will mean you are on Developer Edition.

You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

ITunes doesn't convert everything.
She's transfered the clips to her ipad and the ipad won't play them. So she needs to get them to a m4v or mp4, and you use format converters for that. Not apps but something on the computer.

As for splicing them together, you will need a video editing package for your PC. I don't know if Windows Movie Maker (or whatever they're calling it now) can handle this or not. On a Mac, I'd say just use iMovie.

You may set the slide setting as 'Advance by user'.
So,
a. Insert flv on a slide.
b. On presenter ribbon goto Slide Manager .
c. Select the slide on which flv is inserted and set Advance by user 'Yes'

Try forcing iPhoto to load the Library on the External Hard drive by launching it while holding down the Option key. Choose the Library on the External HD, and quit iPhoto, see if iMovie can see the Library with the iPhoto Videos contained inside.
