How do I get Firefox 8 to read Google gmail account?
After upgrading to the current Firefox version, I tried to access my gmail account at Google. When I tried to open the account, I received a page that said there was a problem with my cookies. It told me to make sure that cookies were enabled and clear the cache. It also told me to add www.google.com as an exception that is allowed. I did all three things. I still can't access my gmail account even th0ugh I could before I upgraded Firefox.

If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />

Help. My old @us.army.mil email address was terminated by the army. I used that address to register my first apple id account on my iPad. I can't remember my original Apple ID number and if I ask to reset my password, Apple sends the reset link to my old non-working email address. I have a new gmail address and a new Apple ID number associated with that address. How do I get my iPad to use my new gmail address and new apple ID number? Remember, I can't log out of my old account because I can't remember the password. Amd Apple will only reset the password by sending a link to my old, non functioning army email account. After saving my Google settings which includes turning off Google's new Instant Search, Firefox doesn't save these setttings the next time I access Google. IE Explorer recognizes my disabling of Instant Search but Firefox doesn't. I am using Firefox 3.6.
Hey, no problemo! I bestow upon you my personal white-can award for the additional info. Meanwhile, the main problem was in how my defaults were set in the Firefox area you pointed me to. Once I got there, I was able to change the defaults so Google's radio button would work. The problem was that each time I saved the Google setting, a message box would pop up that my screenreader announcing that the settings were saved. But when I reloaded Firefox, they were not saved. I don;t know if the popup message was generated by the webpage or Firefox. I think some sort of interupt message should popup from Firefox if one's settings for cookies will prevent the settings from being saved due to cookies being unsaved. Anyway, you were a big help as I am new to Windows 7 and have just switched to Firefox as it handles and solves those nasty screen "captchas" really nicely with the Webvism captcha add-on. Firefox added their own proprietary PDF viewer with version 20 - they're on 21 now. I'll be the first to admit "it sucks". You CAN'T fill in PDF forms with it, and you can't email them from the page like with Opera, Safari or Chrome (which use the reader plug-in still).
Unfortunately, the ONLY option you have now that they've added it and killed the ability for the Reader plug-in to work with Firefox, is Tools>Options>Applications - select Portable Document Format(PDF) and choose "Use Adobe Reader (Default)". What that will do is FORCE Firefox to download the PDF instead of opening it in their terrible PDF viewer in the browser window.
Or... use one of the other browsers I mentioned. They're all free. -

by installing from within Firefox, Internet Explorer has its own version (Active-X).

It used to be ok. I had a firexox teeshirt from way far back, firefox 1.0. Then i had a hemorrhagic stroke, about 3 years ago. Now i'm back, in a new place, for two months now.
(I use my left hand now...) and once again, i have a desktop, with win-xp (and five internal harddrives, and a 600w ps.) Anyway, for the first time with my new desktop, there is a cursor in the bottom of firefox, and it doesn't show everything, left to right unless i move it.
I've been out of commission, with only a laptop, with win-7-64bit edition, that i got just 7 months before my stroke. My sister threw away all of my desktops...many of which i built. The doctor said i may die...so my sister didn't even wait, but threw away my CLOTHES AND BOOKS AND COMPUTERS (except for the laptop), but she saved most of my harddrives...i guess i taught her how to save harddrives.
Anyway, it's been three years, since i've had no 32bit computer with win-xp, and i can't figure out how to make things go back to the way i'm used to. HELP! Firefox 22 has a new way of setting the default zoom level: it is based on your Windows font size setting. So, if you set Windows fonts to 125% (enlarged 25%), your Firefox pages also will be enlarged 25%. On pages that do not adjust their layout, you may get a horizontal scroll bar.
To reduce the zoom on a page, hold Ctrl and tap the - key (the one on the numeric keypad or the one on the number row of the keyboard). The zoom should be reduced for each tap.
If you want to globally adjust your zoom level to be lower, you can use either of these add-ons:

I do almost all my work from a standard user account. Firefox neither automatically updates (as I set it to) or informs me an update is available.

That is not a feature that is supported natively within Firefox but there are various add-ons which I think will do the job you need.
The one I have used is [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/web-slide-show/?src=search Web Slide Show]. This is primarily an add-on for viewing a slideshow of images when they are presented as thumbnails on a web page. However once you are in the slideshow there is a download button which will download all the images in the slideshow. It will automatically rename the images if an image with the same name already exists in the folder.
If you don't like that add-on then here are some others that may do the same job:

I'm on Firefox 3.6.8 running on a 2008 IMAC with OS 10.5.8 yet every click to move pages, from start-up, to return to Home Page takes minutes, not seconds! If I use Safari that's greatly faster on this same set-up. How do I get Firefox to be as fast ?

This is essentially paulbruster's answer, but I've added the steps some might assume, but which aren't so obvious to those of us who are new at this, like me.
This solution might ''appear'' to be long and complicated, but after you follow the directions once, you'll find it's quick, clean, and simple. Almost like they designed it this way.
# If you haven't already, open a bunch of tabs on a few different subjects.
# Click the List All Tabs button on the right side of the tab strip.
# Select Tab Groups.
# Create a few groups as described [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/what-are-tab-groups#w_how-do-i-create-a-tab-group here] , i.e. just drag them out of the main thumbnail group into the new groups they create.
# Now click on any thumbnail in any new group, but not the original big default group you may have left some tabs in.
#A regular Firefox window will open, but'' only the tabs in that group will be visible.'' You also now have the Tab Groups button in the tab strip.
