How do I get Firefox to automatically open to my igHome page

iGoogle is going away. I chose and registered for igHome to be my replacement. I want that homepage to open whenever I click on the Firefox symbol. How do I make that happen? Please be detailed in your answer. I'm not a computer geek! I have tried to follow what some of these forums have told me to do and it's NOT WORKING! Thank you for your help! In case it makes a difference, I'm on a Mac.

When I open Firefox, it is not automatically opening a network connection. I have to manually open the network connection before browsing. How do I get Firefox to automatically open the connection?

How do I prevent firefox from automatically opening the plugin checker page every time I open the browser because it is damned annoying?

I don't like being bothered with pages I am uninterested in opening automatically. It's not a service, it's an annoyance. I want to open my home page, not pages of ANY kind that your browser wishes to open for me. Adblocker doesn't seem to work on this plugin checking page. I do not approve of your browser hijacking my system-I decide what pages get opened, not firefox.

I can't get Safari to automatically open Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc. files when I click on them from a Web site or Web-based email. They are automatically downloaded, but not opened. There is no glitch. Lion does support Office and Word. You can use Office 2008 or 2011.

How can I disable Firefox from automatically opening on system startup on my Mac - unchecking the "open at login" does not work?

We have Firefox 10.o on our Macbook Pro OS X 10.5.8. I prefer using Firefox as my browser but my husband prefers Safari for now because of a long history of bookmarks and saved information he doesn't have time to re-do. He is tired of Firefox automatically opening when we start up the laptop, and even when we uncheck the "open at login" it still opens at login every time. He is about to uninstall it because of this. How can we disable? It does NOT show up in our account on the Mac OS as an application that starts at login, so we can't disable it there.

Allowing your browser to open "safe" files is dangerous. That's how a bunch of people got in trouble during the MacDefender outbreak... the OS considered an installer file safe, since opening one does not run any third-party code. But many people mistook the automatic launch of an installer to be "official" and were fooled into following through and installing the malware. (Whether the OS still considers such installers safe I don't know, but regardless, there is precedent for "safe" files being used maliciously.)
In addition, if you aren't keeping track of these files that get downloaded, that means that your Downloads folder is probably getting filled up with all kinds of strangely-named files, making it difficult to find things in there and providing a good hiding place for other malware like MacDefender. If you don't know what's lurking in your Downloads folder, not only is that hazardous, but it takes up space on your hard drive with things you don't need anymore. I highly recommend changing your browser to download to the desktop. That way, you instantly see any files when they get downloaded, you can open them quickly and you know exactly what has been downloaded and will be more likely to delete it (or file it away) once you're done with it to prevent desktop clutter.

How can I get Firefox to directly open a file (like a torrent) without saving it at all

It seems that up until about 3 months ago - I could get firefox to download a file and open it directly without saving it to any particular place. This is particulary useful for downloading say a torrent or, for that matter, any other file I wish to use within another program but do not need to save the file.
Now I have to download the file, chose where it will be saved, open the folder click on the file, and then delete the now un-needed file. A huge hassle.
I am sure I could do this until a few months ago. For some reason I cannot now.

Make sure that the file has the .html file extension.
That should be sufficient.
Windows hides some file extensions by default.
Among them are .html and .ini and .js and .txt, so you may only see file name without file extension.
You can see the real file type (file extension) in the properties of the file via the right-click context menu in Windows Explorer.
