How do I get good quality prints using AE and an Epson SPR800 printer

I need to print best quality A4 colour prints for a friend.
My Macbook is connected wirelessly to the home network and prints documents usually on the Epson with no problems.
My questions are:
1. What settings should I use from Aperture to get the best quality print?
2. Should I print from Photoshop CS3 or Elements 6 to give a better print and if so what settings should I select.
3. I have read all about ICC profiles for the printer and paper and have downloaded the latest from the Epson web site and installed but are these being used when I print using the AE. I ask as I seem to remember in the past that to print over the network the settings on the Macbook were saying I had an an Apple Laserwriter P/S driver and not the Epson R800 driver.
4. Would I be better to connect directly via USB to the Macbook?
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi, I am also interested in the answer to your question and likewise I am wading through lots of threads with no answers...
I did come across something that recommended importing straight from iDVD rather than using iMovie to send to iDVD ... something to do with it being encoded twice? Also people seem to think that iMovie HD creates higher quality mpegs compared to iMovie 8.
But would be good to find a definitive FAQ about all this. There is this site but it is out of date: http://www.danslagle.com/mac/iMovie/index.shtml.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

What EXACT version of Photoshop CS4 are you running?  You should be on Photoshop CS4 v 11.0.2.
Also run Apple's software update to see whether it offers you the latest Epson update:
    Printer Driver v9.33
Epson Stylus Pro 3880, Drivers & Downloads - Technical Support - Epson America, Inc.
MOST IMPORTANTLY:  have Photoshop re-create its own Preferences:
To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
Note: If this process doesn't work for you while you're using a wireless (Bluetooth) keyboard, attach a wired keyboard and retry.
Important: If you re-create the preferences by manually deleting the Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings file, make sure that you only delete that file. If you delete the entire settings folder, you also delete any unsaved actions or presets.
Reinstalling Photoshop does not remove the preferences file. Before reinstalling Photoshop, re-create your preferences.
NEW Video! Julieanne Kost created a video that takes you through two ways of resetting your Photoshop preferences. The manual preference file removal method is between 0:00 - 5:05. The keyboard shortcut method is between 5:05 - 8:18. The video is located here:

Important: Apple made the user library folder hidden by default with the release of Mac OS X 10.7. If  you require access to files in the hidden library folder to perform Adobe-related troubleshooting, see How to access hidden user library files.

    Yes.
I have a web cam that can do 1.3Mp
This App can get those that Can, to Display (And Display Only) the native format of the camera.
iMovie is likely to be able to see it as it can handle Camcorder feeds.
The difference you see in iMovie to iChat is the difference.
iChat, MSN (If connected via a Exchange Server to do Video), Yahoo (Vid only no Audio) and Skype on the IM apps use 640 X 480 or in Skype's case less.
Photo Booth seems to use the same as iChat to allow for the Composition tweaks (It uses the same Quartz files in the Compositions Folder)
By eye Comic Life that came bundled with some Intels also seems to use 640 X 480
So to an extent it depends what you are going to use the camera for.
iGlasses is a cross app Add-On that can "improve" and tweak the picture in various applications such as iChat outside of what the OS and Application Software have commonly set as Defaults.
the Adjustments tend to be within the scope set up by the manufacturer (i.e. allowing colour, white balance and Contrast and other settings the camera may have been designed for but not in the app settings)
Quicktime Pro, if you have it, can be set in Preferences > Recording to "Device Native" which tends to allow a sort of in-between iChat and iGlasses control (some features but not all) but will work with iGlasses as well.
It is restricted to a 4:3 format window though but this would apply to most Web cams anyway.

  • How can I get good quality screen recordings on a mac?

I am a web designer. I have a few customers who I make video tutorials for so they can find their way around their website. I have been using Quicktime Screen Recording to make videos so far. The quality is great when I view the origional movies on my own computer but when I export them to Youtube via Quicktime or export the movie as a .MOV file, the quality is lost. So I end up sending a video to my customers to watch that is fuzzy and out of focus.
What I want to be able to do is upload high quality, sharp video tutorial to a 3rd party video hosting platform like Youtube.
There are a number of paid apps on the app store for screen casting, but I am not if they would be any better than Quicktime.
I am willing to pay for an app if it does what I need but I would rather use the software that ships with the Mac if possible.
I am using a mid 2009 MacBook Pro. The screen on the laptop is not high resolution, the 27 inch monitor i am using is (I don't know if that will effect the video quality)
    Has anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks - Seb

Your problem is not with the screen recording app but with YouTube's method of making the movie smaller when you upload it.  You could try using Vimeo or some other service instead of YouTube.  But I suspect that you will get best results by experimenting with exporting to different video formats before uploading it to YouTube.  Everyone's in love with MP4 at the moment.  A lower resolution in MP4 won't undergo so much compression at YouTube's end.  Best advice from YouTube is here:
    http://support.google.com/youtube/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1722171&topic=28886 48&ctx=topic
The resolution of your capture area will definitely change how much compression is applied to your video.  If what you're demonstrating allows it, you should be capturing a smaller area than your entire display.  Remember that the smaller the file that you deliver to YouTube, the less YouTube will compress it at their end.
And lastly, remember YouTube is a free service: you pay nothing and get what you paid for.  If you want to host exactly what you want, get your own server and pay for your own bandwidth.  Then you get as much resolution as you like.

  • IBook to TV - how do you get good quality?

I hooked it up my iBook to my TV using Apple's mini-VGA to S-video converter and the result was lousy - awful resolution, slow white lines periodically float thru the screen, and it made everything blurry. So I know this is not the answer. Is the component cable better?
I really want to use the TV as a larger monitor to watch web content, but can't watch it like this.
Am I missing something here? Should it not match the quality of the iBook screen?

I've only used the composite video connection and haven't had any problems with my replacement adapter. Is your mini-VGA to video adapter new as well? Did you get it through the Apple store?
I think what you need to do is try the composite connection and see if the picture is any better there. If not, and you're certain everything is connected securely, either the adapter is bad or the mini-VGA port on your computer isn't working properly.

  • How can I get "script" format for signing forms and paperwork, not just printing my name?

I would like to have a "script" font available when I sign e-mail forms or create forms.

Hi mfeehley, most online editors provide a variety of fonts you can use when composing your message or signature. If the font you want to use is not included, perhaps you can create a small image (e.g., in a Word processor, then use Alt+PrintScreen to capture it to the clipboard as an image, then paste into Paintbrush and trim to a good side) and insert that into your signature instead. The mail site or form program help should explain how to insert images.

  • How to make a good quality 8 Giga DVD out of a Project in AVI of 14 Gigas?I have a film in a proyect

How to make a good quality 8 Giga DVD out of a Project in AVI of 14 Gigas?
I have a film in a proyect made with a miniDV camera in my old Premiere 6.5
It has 68 minutes and after exporting it with the Microsoft DV AVI compressor in 100 % quality and not compressing the audio, it  ended in an AVI of 14 Gigas.
I would like to obtain a DVD of the best quality in audio and video possible. How can I do it?  SHOULD I EXPORT IT FROM THE PREMIERE 6.5 WITH ANOTHER COMPRESSOR OR IN LESS THAN 100% QUALITY WITH THE SAME DV AVI COMPRESSOR ? my INTENTION IS TO USE THE NERO VISION AFTERWARDS... I HAVE THE NERO VISION 4...-. FROM 2007- WOULD IT BE OK OR IS THERE A BETTER ONE? - I know there are newer ones...but better?
I HAVE POSTED THIS A FEW DAYS AGO. THANKS TO THE PEOPLE THAT REPIED. BUT I THINK MY QUESTION IS NOTFULLY ANSWERED YET.
i NEED THE BEST QUALITY I CAN GET, EVEN WHITH MY PREMIERE 6.5, BECAUSE IT IS A FEATURE FILM THAT TOOK ME SEVERAL YEARS AND THIS LAST REMAKE IS NOW READY AFTER TOO MUCH WORK.
    THANKS A LOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello Thanks for your replys and sorry for being so fussy about this.
I have now seen that one of the options for exporting from Premiere 6.5 is Adobe MPEG encoder. So Do you guys think it would be a good idea to do it with that, Or Would it be better AVI or DV AVI compressor from Premiere before making the DVD?
I have the Nero Vision 4.9.6.6  But I may be able to look for another one if you think it is better...
Thanks a lot for your advises...

  • How can I get high quality video that will play on my Touch as well as ATV?

Within iMovie there are output settings for the iPod and for the Apple TV. Now I fully understand the video resolution restrictions of the iPod Touch, so I am happy using a widescreen resolution of 640x360 ("Medium" output setting). What I am not happy about is the quality of the Medium setting, which iMovie states is 1.7Mbps. The results are rather blocky to say the least. In comparison, I can output the same movie as "Large", with a res of 960x540 and a bitrate of 4Mbps, and it comes out a little soft, but the blocky artefacts have all but vanished. Unfortunately, of course, the iPod Touch won't play a video with this resolution. I have tried "Export using Quicktime" and can get good quality results. However, the video (although H.264 and 640x360) ends up NOT being compatible with my iPod Touch.
Basically, how can I output a video of 640x360 that is of the quality I want, and that also plays on my iPod Touch? If the "Export using Quicktime" can be used to achieve this, what are the settings to use?
    Thanks.

But why shouldn't I be able to have one video to suit both. I am happy with the resolution of 640x360, even on my ATV.
You can. Unfortunately, your desire for both a data rate greater than 1.7 Mbps (H.264/AAC compression) and the ability to play them on an iPhone/Touch/iPod is mutually exclusive at this time. Thus, you will either have to make different files targeted for different data rates for maximum quality on each device or you make a single file using the maximum allowed data rate for playback on the "slower" device and accept the quality it produces on whichever device you are currently using. If all you want is a higher data rate, use the MPEG4 Simple Profile which allows data rates up to 2.5 Mbps. Just remember that the H.264 codec is about 2.0-2.5 times as efficient and is roughly equivalent to an MPEG-4 Simple Profile file with video encoded at 3.00-3.75 Mbps.

  • How do i get the driver to use an HP laserjet 5mp with my Mac that runs Lion?

how do i get the driver to use an HP laserjet 5mp with my Mac that runs Lion?  I'm told by HP to get it through Apple updates but it doesn't show up.

The term "server", while technically correct, is misleading.  A print server takes the low-level protocol spoken by a printer and serves it over a higher-level protocol.  For example, parallel printer port (a.k.a. Centronics or IEEE 1284) and serve it over USB.  Or parallel or USB and serve it over Ethernet with a variety of printing protocols (lpr/lpd protocol, JetDirect protocol, port 9100 protocol, the names are confusing).
In reality, a print server looks nothing like what we usually associate with "server" (which is typically a biggish computer).  Instead they usually look like adapter plugs or even adapter cables, or like a little network hub (just with printer connectors instead of network connectors).
Here are a few examples (I'll use Amazon as a guide book, without implying that I endorse them).  Let's start with USB to parallel; it seems they tend to look like adapter cables.  Here is one that takes a USB plug (male) and creates a female port that you can plug your regular old printer cable in: http://www.amazon.com/Cables-To-Go-16899-IEEE-1284/dp/B000UX21PY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=U TF8&qid=1333640548&sr=8-1
And here is one that goes from a USB plug directly into the printer: http://www.amazon.com/Parallel-Printer-Adapter-Connect-parallel/dp/B000BV8604/re f=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1333640548&sr=8-4 replacing the old printer cable.
Then there are (really cheap) Ethernet to printer adapters.  Here is one that you put into the printer (warning, the plastic cover will probably not fit afterwards): http://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-AC-TL-PS110P-Single-Parall/dp/B003CFATR4/ref=sr_1_ 11?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1333640755&sr=1-11 By the way, I really don't like this type, I always find them unreliable.  But they are cheap.
The ones I like look more like a network hub. Here is the NetGear PS110: http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-PS110-parallel-Ethernet-100Base-TX/dp/B0002AF9JU/r ef=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1333640860&sr=8-2
And the HP external JetDirect: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF05a/18972-18972-236253-34214-64302-273 16.html?dnr=1&jumpid=reg_r1002_usenc-001&lang=en&cc=us (I think this is the best one of the lot).  Both of those you put next to the printer, use your existing parallel printer cable, and connect them to the network.  Don't get scared by the astronomical price of the HP; it's commonly available used.
There are even some wireless models around.  In theory, you might be able to use a parallel-to-USB adapter cable and then plug the USB cable into your trusty Apple Airport (as a good Apple fanboy or fangirl you've bought an Airport, right?), but I don't know whether that will work.  With the HP JetDirect box I'm quite certain that it will work (but it's old-fashioned, doesn't come in white, doesn't do wireless, and is not the slightest bit hip or cool).

  • How can I get HD quality on DVD

OK, how can I get HD quality on DVD like I can for youtube?   I use mpeg2 or H.264 for my youtube videos and they look fantastic on there.  I use the NTSC widescreen for my DVD's and they look like crap compared to my youtube videos. I even notice that my video ends are cut off a bit compared to my youtube videos.  It's like it is burning the dvd's in standard instead of HD.  I have a canon HF200 HD camcorder.   Is there a way to get that same quality on DVD?  keep it simple for me.  I'm using PE7
    Thanks

Do you mean that you wish to Burn BD material to a DVD disc, or something else?
DVD is, by definition, SD material, and was designed to be viewed on a CRT TV. It is not HD, and that is what BD is all about. You cannot alter the DVD-specs., as they are written in stone. However, one can do things with a blank DVD disc. What they do, depends on what one needs.
Please let us know exactly what you want to do, and we can give you tips.
    Good luck,
