How do I get just my icon to come up when I log in?

I bought this macbook pro used. It is running on lion. I wanted to change my user name so I made a new user and deleted the old one. Now when I log in, it shows my user and guest. I just want it to show mine so all I need to do is type the password and click return. How do I get rid of the guest user? Here is the problem. It isn't a normal guest user that can get onto the desktop. It is one that logs directly onto safari. It is a web user. When I go to system preferences, it says that the guest user is disabled. Is there any way to get rid of the icon when I get to the log in screen?

It is a very valuable "Find My Mac" security feature.

How do I get the DVD menu to come on when the disc is inserted.

Each time I've burned a DVD with iDVD, instead of the menu coming up when the disc is inserted in the DVD player, the movie begins playing automatically. It should bring up the menu first. I have the chapter marker set at the beginning of the movie and when you go to the menu and select the start button it will go to the start of the movie. Am I missing something? How do I get it so that the movie does not start playing automatically?

• Make's a One Step DVD or a Magical DVD - I never do - I select the top one options.
as these ways will end up Your Movie in the Auto-Start box in iDVD (turn on box-view under the Menu window)
• Move it from here to the next box to the Right
THEN
File to Save as a DiskImage - and test this to play OK (DVD-Player tool)
then burn this via Disk Util tool
And this Disk should start with Menu and let You select Movie or Sceen Selection.

If they click it, they may only get my menubar, or a page, such as my calendar page without a menubar or topbar. I had the most awful time trying to make this work too.
Here's what I did...
1) Turn off the wifi on your mac.
2) Get all your contacts the way you want them on your address book (on your mac) BUT you have to make sure they're all in the same contact list. See... there's a little red ribbon almost in the middle of the address book screen. Click on it and make sure there is only one list. My problem was my address book had created a "On my Mac" list, and an iCloud list, both with different contacts. Once you get them all into one list go to "Export" and create an "Address Book archive". Save this document in a safe place, this will contain ALL your contacts the way you want them.
3) Delete all your contacts on Address Book, and using a web browser delete all your contacts on iCloud. Turn on the wifi on your Mac and let them both (mac and icloud) sync up and make sure there's no contacts at all. If any appear you'll have to delete them.
4) Turn the wifi off on your mac once more.
5) Import the Address Book archive into your address book (on the mac). Make sure they all import to only one list (no more "On my Mac", or "iCloud" list).
6) Turn on your wifi and let iCloud sync to your list of contacts. If it deletes them all try the whole process again... deleting from iCloud and mac, and then importing contacts into Address Book.

On my iPhone 4 when I look up a word it only shows a bare minimum definition. Is there a way to get it to look up a more thorough defintion? Is there some app that will link the look up to a better dictioary?

I read books that I borrow from the library. The library told me to get an app called OverDrive that I read the books on. As I was fiddling with it just now I see it's better than I thought - it links directly to Wikipeadia with one click so that's not bad.
I use the notes app that came with the phone a lot and just for the heck of it I looked up a word on a note I'd written. The dictionary that comes up from that app is totally different than the dictionary that comes up from the OverDrive app.
I gues different apps access different dictionaries.

on the Mac, in Address Book, there is a "Company" box I can check, and so I do have some company names showing up as the key info in contacts and on the call screen. But mostly I don't also have personal names for those numbers, so I don't know if even that works as you want--I suspect it would not show the personal name in such a case. And I can't find any equivalent of that box in the iPhone Contacts.

First thing to try is a reboot of your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart. See if that fixes your problem.

Try rebooting your iPad and see if they reappear.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If they still do not show up, make sure hat you don't have content restrictions set that could prevent certain apps from showing up on your iPad. Settings>General>RestrictionsAllowed Content.
if you still don't see them, connect your iPad to iTunes on your computer and you should see them in the iPad mini screens on the right side of iTunes after the iPad has been selected under "devices" and when you are in the apps pane of iTunes.

How do I get rid of icons (mere document shortcuts) around Finder's window (in the frame, the grey area). They were not there in the first place, just got there somehow. For example on the left side I have: documents, desktop, applications, movies (there are all good).... and a silly pdf document that shouldn't be there. I can't move it or bin it, it just stays there...
There are also more such icons (shortcuts to documents) across the top of that window: amongst the "View", "Action", "Dropbox" icons (which are all good), there are also shortcuts to pdf documents or folders of documents which were never meant to end up there... How can I clean this up?

If you mean the Settings > General > Software Update option then that will only show when you have iOS 5+ installed, if you have iOS 4 as your tagline suggests then you can only do the update via your computer's iTunes, as described half-way down the page that you posted from.
Connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand sidebar of iTunes and selecting 'Backup' (on iTunes 11 you can enable the left-hand sidebar via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC)
