How do i get my music from ipod onto new computer when old computer died

my old computer died unexpectedly and now i have a new one ...how do i get my music from ipod to itunes...i don't want to lose it since i have already paid for it...

1). Connect your iPod to your new computer. If it is set to sync automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are connected and your iPod is safely in manual mode there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. iTunes will only let you copy your purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads and including iTunes purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • Can't get my music from ipod onto new computer?

So my iPod has been synced to our desktop, and I have bought some music from my ipod that is not on the desktop. But now i have a new computer and i want my music from my ipod, not the desktop, on the itunes on the new computer, but transfer purchases isn't working. So.. is there a way to transfer from the ipod on to the new itunes? Or can someone at the genius bar do that for me?
    -Thanks

First of, in iTunes, select "Store" in the menu and authorize the computer.
Then, when your iPhone is connected right click on it and select "Transfer Purchases", this should move your content from your iPhone to your computer.

  • How can i get my music from iphone onto a new pc

how can i get my music from iphone onto a new pc . i have A NEW IPAD I WANT TO TRANSFER THE MUSIC ONTO

When connected to your computer's iTunes you can use File > Transfer Purchases to copy over any music (and other content) that you've bought from Apple. For music that you've copied from your own CDs or bought from other download sites then is it not already on your computer and/or on a backup that you can copy onto your computer ? If not then you will need to find a third-party program to copy them off the phone.
And there is no need to SHOUT.

  • How do i get my music from my i phone 5 to my computer which now has a new harddrive because the old one crashed

My computers harddrive crashed and I had a new one put into my computer.     I want to move my music from my i phone 5 to my computer but when I start to sync my music i tunes says that it is going to clear out the music on my phone.  How can I get my music to my computer?

    Hey there Noles Labelle,
It sounds like you have media on your phone that you want to transfer to your computer from your phone. You can transfer your iTunes Store purchases from your device to the computer with this article:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848
If you want to transfer iTunes Store purchases from an iOS device or iPod to a computer, be sure to authorize the computer before connecting the device. To authorize, follow these steps:
    Open iTunes.
From the Store menu, choose Authorize Computer.
In the dialog that appears, the Apple ID button is selected by default.
Enter your Apple ID and password, then click the Authorize button.
If the iTunes Store purchases on your device were purchased with multiple accounts, you will need to authorize the computer for each one.To transfer iTunes Store purchases from your device to a computer, follow these steps:
Connect your device to the computer. If it is synced with another iTunes library, the following dialog may appear:-
    Click the Transfer Purchases button.
Important: Clicking Erase and Sync will delete any existing content currently on your device. The content will be replaced with whatever existing content is in the current iTunes library your device is connected to. If there is no content in the iTunes library, nothing will be synced to your device, and your device will be empty.
If you had content from sources other than iTunes that had been synced to your phone before, those will have to be re imported to iTunes from a backup  with the following article if you have one:
iTunes: About the Add to Library, Import, and Convert functions
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1347
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

  • Old Computer crash. How can I transfer my music  from Ipod to new Computer?

Lightning struck my old computer, how can I transfer my music from the Ipod to the new computer (Windows XP) Itunes library?

You don't need to buy anything from the spammers that infect these forums. There are plenty of free options.
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.

  • Transfering music from Nano to new iMac without old computer

I recently had a hard drive fail on my old PC laptop and can't access my iTunes music for my Nano. Is there anyway you can download music onto the new iMac without having access to the old PC? I'm talking about music that's been loaded onto the Nano via CD (not iTunes Store) - Please help

    Hey there,
There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes. The first link after the Apple support document below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method if you have a PC as well as a few third party applications (for both the Mac and PC) if you choose to go that route instead. You can also do a simple google search for "copy music from iPod to computer" and you should receive a number of sites that can help you out.
Just make sure that when you have your iPod plugged into your computer, that you don't hit "Erase and Sync" before completing the task of copying your music over.
Also, if you have any purchased music, you will probably have to re-authorize your computer by heading to the Store drop down menu and choosing "Authorize computer."

  • How do i get my music from ipod to a new computer

I want to get all my music from my ipod onto my new computer, how do i go about doing this? I have downloaded itunes onto the new computer, switched on home sharing.  I dont understand how to go about it?  grateful for any help
    thanks

Make sure that autosync is disabled in iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices, set up your account, connect your iPod and right click on it in the device list. Choose "transfer purchases" to copy all bought music from iTunes to your new iTunes library.
If you want to use this computer to sync your device, right lick again in the device list and choose "backup"
This will perform a manual backup without the sync process. Set up at least one contact and event on your computer, to be able to merge data after your device got erased during the first sync.
Use the manual backup to restore your data and settings again.
Other music can only be copied if you use 3rd party software, see this thread for examples: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • HELP! Library has disappeared, How do I get the music from ipod to my comp?

Please Help me! I don't know what to do!
I'm a fourteen year old and my Itunes library completely disappeared from nowhere. I honestly didn't touch anything on it!
So know my Itunes wants to erase and sync my library with its library on there, which has nothing! So, How do I get my ipod music from my ipod to my computer? I'm on Windows XP and Itunes 10!
Please don't make me download anything, because I'll probably get a virus....

Have you looked in the recycle bin? If it's not there, do a search for a song and see if it can be found on your computer somewhere else. By design, iTunes is a one way street - from your computer to your iPod - not the other way around. However, if you can't find any files on your computer, do an internet search for how to move the files from your iPod. Good lesson on why you need to back up your files. FWIW, files/folders just don't "disappear".

  • TS1593 How do I get existing music from itunes onto my new Ipod touch?

How do I get my existing music from itunes on my computer onto my new ipod touch?
Itunes recognizes the new device, but when I try to sync it up, it says sync is complete, but no music shows up on the ipod. Itunes is the latest versioin (11.0.04)
(I suspect it has something to do with my having an older ipod nano. The older Ipod nano does sync up ok).
    Wayne F.

It has nothing to do with the nano. I suspect that yo do not have the right setting checked to sync the media you want to sync, See:
iTunes: Syncing media content to iOS devices and iPodWas the iPod touch previous synced to another computer/iTunes library? In that case yo can only use the manual method of syncing discussed in the article. If yo use the automatic method the media from the iPod will be erased \. I thin you are using the manual method but the songs are not checked to to sync.

  • How to get music from ipod onto new computer?

my old computer crashed and i got a new computer and now i don't know how to get my songs from my ipod onto my new computer. having alot of problems please help!

All of your media that you bought from iTunes you can restore by plugging in the iPod and then right clicking on the iPod icon in the iTunes side bar and select "Transfer Purchases from (name of your iPod)"
    For songs/movies you ripped yourself:
If you are on a Mac, look up DeTune... Or Senuti...
there are other compatible things for other OSes but you will have to search for them
