How do i get my TC to house my main itunes library and access it?

How do i get my TC to house my main itunes library and access it as if it was on my hardrive?

Have you considered that if you move your iTunes Library / Media Folder to the Time Capsule drive......you will have your "master" or "original" library on the Time Capsule drive?
When....not if.....you have an issue with the Time Capsule drive, you have no backup for iTunes Library / Media Folder.....and you lose everything in the library.
So, before you consider moving the Library to the Time Capsule disk, it would be a good idea to develop a backup plan for the library / media folder first.
To develop your backup plan.....(Time Machine will not work for this).....you will need to use another commercially available application that can copy data from a network drive.....like Carbon Copy Cloner or Chronosync....then you can move the iTunes Library / Media Folder from your Mac.
The following Apple Support Document provides the details on how to do this:

  • How do i get my music from icloud to my itunes library

how do i get my music from icloud to my itunes library

Download it in iTunes from your purchased list, as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519.
If the music is on your phone, another option is to authorize your computer for the Apple ID(s) used to purchase the music (in iTunes, Store>Authorize This Computer), then connect your phone to your computer, open iTunes and go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.

  • I have 2 iphones in the family and want to use itunes match on both devices, but my husband has his own itunes acct, how can he use the main itunes library and get out music on his phone also

I have 2 iphones in the family and want to use itunes match on both devices, unfortunately my husband has his own itunes acct and when i change on his phone to my itunes acct it states that the email is already in use, any help on how to get the itunes match to go onto both devices, thanks

    "Method Three
Create a separate iTunes library for each device. Note:It is important that you make a new iTunes Library file. Do not justmake a copy of your existing iTunes Library file. If iTunes is open, quit it.
This one may work. I searched and searched on the website for something like this, I guess I just didn't search correctly, lol. I will give this a try later. My daughter is not be back for a few weekends, therefore I will have to try the Method 3 when she comes back for the weekend again. "
I forgot to mention that she has a PC at her house that she also syncs to. Would this cause a problem. I am already getting that pop up saying that the iPod is synced to another library (even though she is signed in with her Apple ID to iTunes) and gives the pop up to Cancel, Erase & Sync, or Transfer Purchases. My question arose because she clicked on "Erase & Sync" by mistake when she plugged the iPod to her PC the first time. When the iPod was purchased and setup, it was synced to my PC first. When she went home, she hooked it up to her PC and then she erased it by accident. I was able to restore all the missing stuff yesterday using my PC. However, even after doing that it still told me the next time I hooked it up last night that the iPod was currently synced with a different library. Hopefully, you can help me understand all this. She wants to sync her iPod and also backup her iPod at both places. Both PCs have been authorised. Thanks

  • How do I get 'lost' songs to reappear in my iTunes library?

I have files that have stored themselves into different folders within the iTunes Music folder(C:\Documents and Settings\admin\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\iTunes Music) and many of the songs in this folder do not appear in my library. I need to know where to move the folders so they re-appear in the library.
This comment on the help menu makes no sense to me:
"Here are ways to make your songs appear in the library again:
    ■ Drag your iTunes folder (by default, located inside My Documents/My Music) to the iTunes window. You will see the songs in your library again. If the iTunes Library file was included, you'll also see your original playlists."
I do not know what it means by "drag your iTunes folder to the iTunes window". What is the iTunes window? Sorry if this seems like a dumb question!
    Can anyone help please?
Similarly, some imported albums store themselves in a 'compilation' folder or under 'Various Artists' - even when it's different albums for the same artist - how do I successfully move these to their logical place so they appear where they should??
I think after having a few crashes, the library has gotten fragmented.
Any help is much appreciated. Cheers

    Hi, welcome to Apple discussions.
If files that you added to iTunes are going missing, one possible candidate is Windows Media Player. Both iTunes & WMP have options that enable them to rearrange files based on the contents of the tags. If you let WMP move files however they will be "lost" to iTunes, whereas if iTunes moves a file WMP will have a good chance of finding it again.
You'll find Windows Media Player & iTunes play happier together if you make sure WMP doesn't make any automated changes to your tags. Open WMP, go to *Library > Options* and in the section *Automatic media information updates for files* remove any ticks agaisnt the following:
    - Retrieve additional information from the Internet
    - Rename music files using rip music settings
    - Rearrange music in the rip music folder, using rip music settings
    - Maintain my star ratings as global ratings in files
I also make the WMP Rip folder match the main iTunes\iTunes Music folder.
Hopefully that should stop matters getting worse. It's not always that easy to work out where the missing files have moved from or where they might be now. The following method should help identify which files are no longer where iTunes expects them to be and which are not currently connected - you can use this information to help you restore things, or just use the tools to update the library with the current locations of the files.
    *Adding new items/removing orphans*
Try iTunes Folder Watch or iTunes Library Updater. Folder Watch is much faster on the adding files front, can be set to run in the background and includes a useful exclusion feature, however it’s really slow at removing orphans. iTLU is better for this although doing it manually after looking at a list of proposed removals generated by Folder Watch is probably faster still. iTLU can also be set to update iTunes when you've used 3rd party tools to change tag info.
I do not know what it means by "drag your iTunes folder to the iTunes window". What is the iTunes window? Sorry if this seems like a dumb question!
This suggestion is the "drag & drop" equivalent of File... Add to library... "iTunes\iTunes Music" which would find any files within the iTunes Music folders that are not in your library, no use if WMP has moved them elsewhere and may also import duplicates in some circumstances. I'd ignore the suggestion.
Similarly, some imported albums store themselves in a 'compilation' folder or under 'Various Artists' - even when it's different albums for the same artist - how do I successfully move these to their logical place so they appear where they should??
iTunes uses the Gracenote database to get CD information. Sometimes this marks ordinary albums as "Compilations" when they aren't, most often becasue they are anthologies. If iTunes thinks an albums is a compilation it will put it in the compilations folder, otherwise it uses the Album Artist or Artist together with the Album name.
If you're lettig iTunes "Keep the iTunes music folder organised" then updating the values of Track Name, Track No., Artist, Album Artist, Album, Disc. No. & Part of a compilation flag will cause the tracks to be moved & renamed. If you manage you libray manualy, put things where you want, delete moved items and reimport from the new location. I go for full manual control, but it's up to you. In principle it really shouldn't matter where things are stored as you will be using an application to access them rather than browsing for the files. Having all you media organised within the iTunes & iTunes Music folders does make it easier to back up or relocate the entire library however, hence my suggestion to relocate the default RIP folder for WMP.
For more information on the logical organaisation of tracks within iTunes as opposed to the physcial layout of the files, see my recent post on Grouping Tracks Into Albums.

  • How do I get my new pc to see my itunes library already residing on my external drive?

I have a laptop pc connected to an external drive.  My iTunes libary was moved to an external drive because it took up so much memory. I have a new desktop pc now.  I downloaded iTunes onto it and I am trying to get it see the iTunes library on the external drive now, but it will not.  Any thoughts on how to make that happen?

    Hey KHpod,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you are attempting to open up the iTunes library from your external drive. The following article may provide the resolution to your issue:

  • The Dreaded ! How do I get these files from Ex-HD to iTunes Library Again?

I don't know how this happened but basically, my Ex-HD a G-Raid (F:\), exchanged drive letters with my backup, a G-Safe (H:\) in my computer. I have several thousand tracks that are now missing in my itunes library, but are on the Ex-HD, which for some inexplicable reason, now shows up as the H drive.
I removed the backup, and changed the itunes preferences tab accordingly. I'm not sure this is all relevant, so basically I will ask...
How do I get itunes to restore these tracks without manually clicking play on each track and then having to answer the "file cannot... would you like to replace it?" question. Is there another way that I can go through this arduous task?

I actually tried that in "my computer" by renaming the drive and then got this:
    g-raid (F:) (H:)
then after reading your reply realized I should try renaming it in "disk management" and hey! it worked.
Thanks a lot for the advice.
Now I don't understand why my back-up drive isn't automatically adding the files when I import into the Ex-HD but I'll figuree it out.

  • How do I get my music from my iphone into itunes library

I have tried everything I can see to get my music from my iphone to my itunes library?
I've just got a new iphone 4 and want all my music put onto my new phone but again I don't know what else to do.

The music sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The only exception is itunes purchases.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases
Everything should be on your computer, just sync it to the new iphone.

  • Having trouble transferring itunes library to an external hard drive.  All of my music is in the main ITUNES library and every site and answer I get says tranfer my library/user name/ da da da da da.... I am not familiar with this-need a simple way-thx

HELP!   I have looked at video sites, looked on here, to no avail.   Please dont talk negatively about my question (as I have seen some pretty mean responses to topics )   I am trying to copy my itunes music to an external hard drive.  Here is my situation:  All of my music is in the main ITUNES location.  I  have been told to save the "user library".  I really need an elementary step by step way.  I plan to visit the library in town tomorrow to get a book but worried because my computer is having issues  TONIGHT.  Thanks for any help....  This is so helpful to know there may be help out there.

iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.
To see your iTunes folder click on the Music folder icon in your Finder sidebar.

  • I have a new apple ID how do I get my new purchases to my normal itunes library

So I have a ipad and an ipod nano. I have always downloaded music on my ipad then synced my ipod to my pc. But i had to get and new apple ID. So when I got to sync my ipod. It does it with my old account. Ive tried deleting itunes and redownloading it but that didnt work. I need to some how completly reset itunes on my pc or somehow change my id on there. But i cant find a way to do it. Please help.
    Thanks.

I'm not quite sure what is going on or what you need to accomplish. If it's asking you to authorize your computer, you'll need to do that with both your new Apple ID and your old one. Until you do, you will not be able to sync purchases from your iPad. You authorize the computer via the Store menu in iTunes. If you have iTunes 11, which for some unfathomable reason hides the menus by default, press Control-B and you'll then see the menus.
If that doesn't address your situation, please post back and clarify.
    Regards.

  • How do I get music from spotify transferred to my itunes library?

I need to get my music playlist on spotify downloaded to my ipod nano. It says I have to import it to itunes, when I try nothing happens. How do I do this?

When you connect the iPod to the iMac, doesn't iTunes (and iPhoto if you have pics on it) launch and ask if you want to synch? Does the iPod even show up in iTunes? If so can you click on the iPod and then synch?
