How do I get photos from dead iMac G5?

The logic board on my G5 iMac has died and I need to get my photos from the Hard Drive as there are some precious ones of my new born daughter.
I've taken the hard drive out and even tried putting it into a caddy and loading it onto my new 20" iMac, which promptly burnt out(the caddy that is, not the iMac)!! Shall I try another caddy and hope this doesn't happen again?
Also when I did have a few minutes with the caddy working I couldn't find the images? I found an iPhoto library but it just kept trying to open an old version of iPhoto? I'm at a loss and getting worried that I've lost everything!!
If I do get another caddy shall I try it on my old G4 which has an older version of iPhoto?
Sorry to ramble on but these images are very precious! Thanks for listening.

You would do better to find an external enclosure which will take the hard disk - you should take advice as to what is suitable - and connect it via USB or firewire. Once you've got it running you can trawl around for the photos, which should be there, probably in the iPhoto library in a foler with your username which is in the 'Users' folder.

this is an iMac that I just got so its all new to me...
    thank you

If you set PSE as external editor, be sure you pick the right file, which is not by any means the logical choice. You want this one:
You can also export the photos from iphoto, edit them and save them under new names and reimport the edited photos as new files. This is more trouble, but lets you save as many different versions of your image as you like (iphoto only remembers the last edited version + original).

  • How do i transfer photos from my imac to my iphone

How do I transfer photos from my iMac to my iPhone?

I've had many Apple Mac computers since 1994, and they have always been excellent pieces of equipment. The original ethic of Apple was intuitive, user-friendly, drag and drop principle. However, the iphone in my opinion has completely departed from this ethic.
Transferring a photo from your phone to a computer should be one of the easiest and most basic functions it can perform. I have a 10 year old push-button Nokia that can bluetooth a photo to any other bluetooth device in an instant.
However, for some reason, best known to Apple, they have now decided to make this process as convoluted as possible. No longer can one perform this simple task by via direct bluetooth link - oh no - you have to sync, and otherwise bugger about for hours trying to get one stupid picture from your phone to the computer.
They say you can email it - but what if one doesn't want email set up on their phone - I get enough email pouring in through my computer without having it spewing out of my phone as well, and even if you did have email set up, how is that better than bluetooth - it's going backwards - that's what we used to have to do before bluetooth.
The poster above - elmac -  illustrates how backwards this all is now, as he spends 'hours of trial and error' figuring all this crap out, and the 'best part of a day resetting his iphone' - these things are supposed to make our lives easier! Who wants to spend a day resetting their stupid phone!
Sorry Apple, your iphone is backwards technolgoy if it can't transfer a photo quickly and easily to another device in seconds without having to play Krypton Factor in order to do so. Even the **** Air Drop doesn't work between IOS and OSX - how massively crap is that.
As soon as my contract is up on this useless fascist slab, it's a Nokia for me, and the iphone will be launched from a vehicle at high speed.

  • How can I transfer photos from my  iMac to my iPad and not lose the ones already stored on the iPad.

How can I transfer photos from my  iMac to my iPad and not lose the ones already stored on the iPad?  When using iTunes to sync a folder from the iMac to the iPad it always removes anything previously synced.
    Help appreciated
    David

I've just found out the reason for this behaviour. I am syncing from a computer which is different to the one I first synced with. iTunes can't cope with this situation so deletes anything synced from another source.

  • How can I transfer photos from my Imac OS9 to a Macbook Pro OS 10 ? 10

How can I transfer photos from my Imac OS9 to a Macbook Pro OS 10 ?

The easiest way is probably to use a USB flash drive (you may have to test whether it is compatible with the Mac OS 9 iMac).
Somewhat more complicated would be to connect the two computers via Ethernet to (the built-in switch of) a broadband router, and then transfer files over the Internet (or a local network).
There are other methods as well (FireWire, CD-R, et cetera), depending upon the exact computer models involved.

How do I get photos from my pc to Itunes to put on my IPAD?

    Hey Sandersincp,
These are the steps for adding digital photos to an iPad using iTunes:
Connect your iPod, iPhone, or iPad to your computer and select your device.
    Click the Photos button.
Select “Sync photos from” and choose an album or folder from the pop-up menu.If you’re using Adobe Photoshop Album or Adobe Photoshop Elements, you can export photos directly from those applications to your device by choosing Photoshop Album or Photoshop Elements from the pop-up menu.
Choose whether to move all your folders or albums, or only selected folders or albums.
To also move the full-resolution versions of these photos to your iPod, select “Include full-resolution photos.”Note:   To move the photos from your iPod to another computer, select this option, and also select “Enable disk use” in the Summary pane. This option isn’t available on iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad. For more information, see Use iPod as an external hard drive.
Click Apply. If it’s the first time you’re adding photos to your iPod, iPhone, or iPad, it might take a while, but subsequent syncs should be faster.

  • How do I get photos from my PC to my I-Pad?

How do I get photos from my PC to my I-Pad?

    Another way.
You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import.

    Hi Hannah,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The article linked below will walk you through restoring the iPhone from a previous iCloud or iTunes backup.
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
    Restore from an iCloud backup
If you have a new iOS device, or if you need to restore your iOS device to resolve an issue, follow these steps.
Follow the initial steps in the iOS Setup Assistant (select your language, and so on).
Select Restore from iCloud Backup when the assistant asks you to set up your iPhone (or other iOS device).
Select the backup you created earlier.
You can restore a backup only by using the iOS Setup Assistant.
If you've already set up your device, you can erase all current content to go through the iOS Setup Assistant again. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. Do this only if you already have a backup, because this step will remove all current content from your device.
    Use iTunes
    Restore from a backup
If you have a new iOS device, or if you need to restore your device to resolve an issue, follow these steps:
Connect your iOS device to the computer that has your backup.
Make sure this computer has the latest version of iTunes.
Choose File > Devices > Restore from Back up.
If you're using iTunes 10.7 or earlier, right-click the device from the list and choose Restore from Backup.

  • How do I get photos from the iPhoto import folder to the iPhoto library?  It uploaded, but hung while deleting from my camera, so no imported photos are in the iPhoto library.

How do I get photos from the iPhoto import folder to the iPhoto library?  It uploaded, but hung while deleting from my camera, so no imported photos are in the iPhoto library.  I watched it upload about 400 photos, one by one.  They're somewhere, but they don't appear in the iPhoto library. As iPhoto was deleting them from my camera, it got hung up, then a message came "you should eject before disconnecting a device."  I hadn't touched the camera.  The message came by itself.  I couldn't get iPhoto to respond, so I disconnected the camera and did a Force Quit.  Opening it back up, the pictures were gone.  Can somebody help me?

What version of iPhoto are you running?  Assuming it's iPhoto 9 or later Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • How do I get photos from laptop to iPad,  can't find photo tab

How do I get photos from lap top to iPad?

The photos tab appears on the right-hand side of iTunes when you've selected the device, in the same way as the music, films tabs etc appear for syncing those items to the iPad. You need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad - not including photos in a subsequent sync is how you delete them from the iPad. Hi People!
Please help...I want to know how can i get photos from ipad to the computer, that were synchronized previously to ipad but from another pc that i dont have access anymore and these pics are now only found in this ipad and no other place.

    Hi Alan,
Thanks for the help, but i've actually done that before.
It does not help, because it only shows the photos on the camera roll and do not show the photos synchronized with that pc that i dont have access anymore.
The photos/albums all appear on the ipad, i can see it without problems but i cant get them out of the ipad to save onto pc for backup.
And i reaaly need it, as it is the only place that i actually have these photos now...

How did you use this backup drive? Was this a Time Machine backup, or just an external drive to which you copied files?
I assume your photos were in iPhoto.  If you're just talking a bunch of JPEG files you can just drag them wherever you like, otherwise:

  • How do i get photos from computer to iPhone?

how do i get photos from my macbook onto my iphone5.  i transferred iphone photos to iphoto, and now they disappeared from my phone!  something went wrong!

On your Mac: open System Preferences, select iCloud.  Either create an account, or login if you already have one. Ensure that everything you want to synchronise between your Mac and your iPhone is ticked.  In this case especially 'Photo Stream', but I find it useful to synchronise Calendars, Notes, Contacts and Reminders.  If you use an @me.com email address then synchronise Mail as well - I don't.
On your iPhone: go into Settings, select iCloud.  Login to your account (if necessary).  Ensure that 'Photo Stream' is turned on.
That's it, photo's taken on your iPhone will automatically synchronise with your Mac, and photos in the 'Photo Stream' folder of iPhoto on your Mac will automatically synchronise with your iPhone.
There are other advantages to setting up iCloud if you have both a Mac and an iPhone, e.g. 'Find my Mac' which despite it's name enables you to find your iPhone as well, which let's face it is much more likely to get lost or stolen.
