How do i get rid of a virus that gives me popups
i downloaded something to watch a video for free (not smart, i know lol) and i get a million popups of things like mackeeper. My computer buggs out all the time and asks me for passwords and to download more things. Help me please!!

I downloaded some version of a Divx player. Shortly after that I began receiving multiple pop-ups from both browsers - Google Crome and Safari. This happens every time I click on something to go to a new page. My shockwave has been crashing and any video I watch lags behind. There are also little video ads on most sites I go to that I know are not sponsored by the site. I've tried to delete/uninstall everything relating to Divx, but no such luck. Maybe I locating the right file to delete. I would like to find a way of getting rid of this first before I have to restore the MacBook Pro to factory condition. You installed the "DownLite" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "VSearch" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/Jack.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
/Library/Application Support/VSearch

/System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ConduitNPAPIPlugin.plugin
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot" or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
This trojan is distributed on illegal websites that traffic in pirated movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect much worse to happen in the future.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the DownLite developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight is inexcusable and has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. -

How you remove an app depends on the app. There's no built-in uninstaller in Mac OS X. Apps that were purchased through the App Store can just be dragged to the trash. Apps that required an installer should also require an uninstaller, and that uninstaller should be provided by the developer. Apps that are installed just by dragging to the Applications folder are a bit of a gray area... they should be removable just by dragging them to the trash, but sometimes such apps will install things that run in the background and that need removing. You'd need to see if the developer has removal instructions or an uninstaller.
There are special cases, of course. MacKeeper, for example, requires an installer, but has no uninstaller. Instead, you just drag the app to the trash, and a component of MacKeeper will notice that and ask if you want to remove it.
To remove Norton, you need to run the original installer, which will offer to remove Norton if it's already installed. If you don't have that installer, you can re-download it or check with Symantec about an uninstaller.

As a general rule, when dealing with apps from outside the App Store, you should always find out how an app is properly removed before installing it, as some apps from irresponsible developers may need - but not have - uninstallers. Your iPad does not have a virus unless it is jailbroken. Close all apps nd reset your iPad. Clear Safari as well.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear Cookies and Data.
Closing apps in iOS 7 works like this. Drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up. -

Make a temporary backup of your library (if you don't already have a backup of it) and launch iPhoto with the Command +Option key held down and rebuild the library with options #1, 2, 3 and 6 selected.

How can I get rid of old books that I have deleted from my device but still shows up as "purchased books" on "Icloud". I don't want to see some of these books at all. Nooooooo! lol... If I want to download again I will, I don't want an electronic trail. Plus when I have Ibooks open, sometimes I will accidently hit the item and it will immediatly try to download it. The problem with that is that its "Time magazines Best Photos of 2012" etc and it locks up my IPAD cuz of sheer size of the book. So I would like it gone from the history. Please don't try to encourage me to use the new update. That is not what I am asking. The layout of Firefox 30 is not user friendly at all, and if I cannot continue to use 28, I will change to a different browser.
What I need to know is how can I get rid of the update that just downloaded itself without warning and permission? I have ALREADY selected in the options menu for Firefox to not check for updates. Thanks to another user's post I was able to learn how to disable this completely in the about:config menu (why can't it be done in the settings? Why doesn't Firefox listen to its users? That's a whole other problem!)
