avg secure search was not allowed by firefox because it was 'incompatible' in the first instance - i did not allow it but after a while it just was there and every time i want to search the internet now it is there and will not go away. not only have i disabled it, i have now uninstalled all of the avg components i can find on my computer and its still there. I would guess that all your slowness problems are from your anti virus, unfortunately if you are not technically skilled enough to click on a menu item to restart Thunderbird in safe mode, I seriously doubt you will be able to start your operating system in safe mode to diagnose the issue.
To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try one of the following:
*Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu (alt+H), click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.

All of a sudden (I think it started when a web page tried to open adobe reader) I get a continual IE security popup that keeps re-appearing over and over again on the same page as well as on new pages that has a yellow banner saying: A webstie wants to open web coontent using this program on your computer

Then it says it's from Adobe and the program is Flash Player and under the details it shows

I keep uninstalling Adobe to get rid of this problem. Then something comes along that I need Adobe for and install again.
Then this same problem is back. I won't even consider buying an Adobe product until I know the issue can be resolved.
I'm frustrated in Texas. I cannot find a way to contact customer service about this, so I guess this has to be the next best thing.

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
If Safari crashes on launch and you don't have another web browser, you should be able to launch Safari by starting up in safe mode.
You may have installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those.
After removing the malware, remember to reset your home page in all the web browsers affected, if it was changed.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
If you find Apple's instructions too hard to follow, ask for an alternative that doesn't require you to trust a black-box application without knowing what it does.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Just wondering if any one here runs Tencent QQ on mac os x? I have to run QQ as everyone in China uses it for: work, file sharing, blogging, and communication.
The PC version is full of all sorts of horrors. But I'm finding problems with the mac version and I can't find any information about it, having googled around for a day or so.
I'm running there english for mac version which is still in Bata and has been for a year or so now.
I'm getting a lot of random pop up adds in Chinese in all my web browsers, and I don't know what to do to get rid of them!
I have just tried running VirusBarrer X6. It's the only anti virus program I have found good reviews for the mac. But that did not find anything on my computer. It also dose not notice the adds appearing even though its running in the back ground.
I have deleted all cookies and used the mac firewall to block QQ but I still have adware.
Any ideas on how to get rid of it?

I have installed AdBlocker which is 'donation-ware'. It does block some pop-up ads. You might have to add a filter for this particular ad.

This hasn't caused me any problems yet that matter and it doesn't block all ads/pop-up ads without adding more specific filters. I haven't tried to add my own filters yet. I have noticed that it blocks part of one section in Yahoo.

Hi, im trying to get rid of some 3rd party plug-ins on logic, but it only looks like i can disable them. (sweeping them under the rug isn't helpful) This is a problem because i have one version of a plug-in that doesn't work and im gonna get another of the same version (with expansions) to replace it so im concerned that the 2 versions will conflict with one another and i wont get the expansions i payed for. Anyone have a solution to permanently get rid of plug-ins? -Tim

The component files of the third party plugins are in:
Local Drive\Library\Audio\Plug-Ins\Components
You can make a backup of a given component (say in a desktop folder) and replace the component with other version etc.
You can use [Pacifist|http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/mac/12743] as well to install/extract a component from a given installation pack etc.

How do I get rid of the security warning for disc based Flash product

I have a project that use a program called Articulate to turn
powerpoint shows into a more rich flash product with audio, search
capacities, quiz etc. There are multiple sections from multiple
powerpoint files that generate a dozen or so flash files. The flash
files reside in an html shell to allow for navigation. The whole
thing is delivered on disc as a browser based training product.
The problem is that viewing flash from a disc results in a
security alert every time the viewer goes to a flash file. There is
an Articulate theme blog that suggests using a product called
server2go to make the disc function as a server to kinda fool
browsers on the local machine into thinking the disc is a web
server. My client wants the product to allow the users' default
browser. So far, although server2go is supposed to allow this, it
doesn't with the latest version of firefox (client's preferred
browser). I can only get it to work on a select machine or 2 in my
office with IE (server2go default) but it takes forever to launch.
I haven't gotten it to work on any of the client's machines. The
disc (auto launch) just freezes the machines.
Can anyone recommend a better server emulation product, or
tell me another solution to delivering a disc based flash product
without getting the security warning and without making the viewer
change settings on their machine to allow flash to play?
I understand security issues but this makes flash virtually
unusable for this application and I'm dead in the water if I can't
fix it.

How to positively get rid of AVG Secure search

I have tried many of the method suggested by user but AVG Secure Search is unaffected or goes away but keeps coming back.
I don't understand how it only seems to affect people running Firefox and why Firefox seems to rely completely on forums and suggestions by users as to how to fix it. Why is there not an official Firefox answer to this problem that seems to be a problem for a very large number of Firefox users?

I found this somewhere. It worked for me. about:config did not work for me.
Here is the very simple solution to remove AVG secure search from Firefox.
I first uninstalled the avg toolbar using Revo Uninstaller (free program from cnet download)
1. Go to Firefox "Help".
2. Click "Restart with Add-ons Disabled"
3. Click "Restart".
4. The browser will close and a pop-up box will open.
5. Select "Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults".
All adds on remained enabled.
6. Click "Make Changes and Restart".

I have Acrobat X Pro patched to 10.1.8 on Windows 7. I am trying to create and use a CD with a set of hyperlinked PDFs on it.
Whenever I click a link in any of the PDFs, the attached security dialog comes up. The box being ticked doesn't matter, Acrobat doesn't add anything to its list of websites in Trust Manager. I have added D:\ to the list of privileged locations in the enhanced security preferences. In fact, I have tried turning off enhanced security altogether, and even that didn't work. I have also tried both "Allow access to all websites / Default behavior: Allow Access" (which irritatingly reverted to "Allow access / Always ask" BTW) and "Custom / Default behavior: Always Ask" in the Manage Internet Access preferences under Trust Manager. Trust Manager won't let you add local paths.
I can change the PDF files too if it's something to do with the type of hyperlink between them. They're relative links to other files in the same directory created using Word and then converted to PDF with Acrobat PDFMaker.

It's possible that the file that any path points to may be changed, but it appears Acrobat happily accepts those other paths.
If that is really intended behavior as built, is there a way to fool Acrobat that a given disc isn't removable media?
