• How do I get rid of an unnecessary scroll bar? IE10

Hi,
I'm using RH 9.0.2.271, Webhelp, Zoom Search
Among the many gifts IE10 has given me, I have acquired an extra scrollbar when displaying the documentation in IE10. This vertical scrollbar appears to the outside right of my content page.
When the content pane correctly requires a scrollbar, I now have 2, and inside one (correct) and an outside one (not correct).
The 2nd outside scrollbar becomes INACTIVE when I switch to compatibility view in IE10, but it is still there!
How can I get rid of this annoying scrollbar, active or inactive, for once and for all?
Things I've tried to do to elimate this extra outside scrollbar:
1. Turned off the skin thinking my buttons are now too large when displayed in IE10. Nothing would surprise me. No change.
2. Change the magnification of IE ; zoomed in/out. No change.
3. Asked a colleague to test. No change.
4. Played with the TOC pane size. No change.
5. For fun, eliminated the white space on the home page. The scrollbar appears even on the home page where there is minimal text.
6. Looked at the CSS - no idea what would be effective.
7. Tested in Firefox. No change, scrollbars are still there.
I also have a horizontal scrollbar in IE10, but I still have more testing to do before I post
thanks in advance!

My guess is there is some style in the CSS giving an issue.
When you open only the topic (with skin invisible), do you then also see this scroll bar?
Also try to add the following CSS to the BODY definition:
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
The x- definitions are RoboHelp control definitions. They are not CSS and RoboHelp uses them to give a Word-like experience in the interface. They are ignored by browsers.

• How do I get rid of this annoying tag at the end of my wordpress posts: // ![CDATA[ div id="" class="_mp3rocket_overlay_style" style="left: ; top: ; width: ;

Whenever I post on my blog, this shows up at the bottom:

<nowiki>//

//
</nowiki>

How do I get rid of it?

Does the name mp3rocket ring a bell?? It may be related to a browser add-on. You could check for and possibly disable or remove such an add-on here:
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Add-ons
Try both the Plugins and Extensions categories.
If it doesn't seem related to an add-on, perhaps it's something added by a Wordpress plugin, or your blog theme. If you provide a link to your blog, a volunteer here could take a look and see whether they get the same text.

• When I access AOL on Firefox a "plug in tool bar" appears on the right side of my screen obliterating my scroll bar. How do I get rid of this annoying plug in bar?

AOL says it's your browser that is causing this, not AOL and it makes AOL pretty useless to use on Firefox. Much easier to use Windows Explorer. Can you get rid of this "browse or add plug in" bar? How do I get around this? Using Firefox on a Windows Vista operating system.

Opening in the sidebar is the default for bookmarks that are created via a link or button on a website.
You can check the properties of a bookmark via the right-click context menu in the sidebar (Ctrl+B; Command+B on Mac).
In the Bookmarks Manager (Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks) you can click the More button in the Details pane at the bottom right.
Make sure that "Load this bookmark in the sidebar" is not selected.

• How do I get rid of those annoying white-on-black "?" marks that pepper the text on some web pages

They don't appear in IE. "?" characters are on diamond shaped black background and overwrite characters underneath making it difficult to read the text.

A diamond indicates a problem with the font or the content of a web page. You get a diamond if the page uses an 8 bit encoding and the character can't be mapped. A possible cause is that the text was copied from another (Unicode) source and pasted on that website. IE probably shows a white box or nothing in such a case. It is also possible that the page is send with the wrong encoding by the server.
Can you post a link to a page where you see that?

• How can I get rid of those annoying icons on the side of each Safari page for 'sharing' to Facebook, etc?

When I open a page in Safari, there is a bar to the left side that obscures some of the text on the page. It contains icons for different ways of sharing a page, such as Facebook, tweet etc. I would like to make them go away. But they seem stuck there.

I couldn't agree with you more! I just reposted the question, hoping someone will know how to say "adios" to them!

• How to finally get rid of those annoying little plus sign boxes in a table

Hello everyone!
Pages treat table cells as a _*TEXT BOX*_
If those +*annoying little plus sign boxes*+ are popping up, do this to get rid of them:
1. Open Inspector
2. _*Select all*_ on your table
3. Click on T
4. Click TEXT
5. GO to _*INSET MARGIN*_ and SLIDE until the little plus sign boxes disappear.
FINALLY the boxes are gone!

Hej Fruhulda
Obviously you are one of the fortunate ones who has never had to deal with the dreaded little box with an X in it!
All of us here were seeing it all the time up until yesterday and it was driving us CRAZY!!
Imagine this:
You are trying to get some work done in Pages
In a table
You add some text to a cell
Then you find out that you have to make the table smaller because
suddenly you have to insert another table on the page
As you are making the table smaller
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Inside the cell with the text *a little box with an X in it appears* and will not go away.
If you are working with MANY cells in a table
You are looking at A LOT OF LITTLE BOXES with X's in them.
Suddenly you feel *SEA SICK* looking at all those little boxes
You read the entire iWork Manual line by line BUT cannot find anything to HELP
Your project is not a numbers candidate
You have been a mac user for YEARS and YEARS
You know your macs, you know your mac issues
WHAT TO DO
I am sure you can see the dilemma we were in!
Then all of us realized that this is similiar to a text box issue and cell padding issue from our Adobe CS suite programs and sure enough it WAS!!
That is basically the problem ALL of US were having.
So if our solution can help anyone - *WE ARE GLAD*
because they were probably getting *SEA SICK TOO* trying to get some work done
Thank your lucky stars you did not ever have this issue pop up on a deadline!!
Have a great day
( I miss my Östermalmstorg FIKA in the afternoon)

• How do I get rid of this annoying message that now pops up?

I just answered my own question. But seriously, "You are using an unsupport browser that verizon.com does not support"???
Solved!
Go to Solution.

"I agree that the wording could be better. Odds are the code was written by someone that does not have english as a first language. The message *does* have to stay present until the browser is fixed, though. Otherwise people would dismiss it, then complain that some feature wasn't working. When someone said they were using an unsupported browser, they would further complain that there was no message telling them so. (As is, there are still people that scroll past the message without seeing it and still complain.)" --- Personally, I would just come back to that message later if I could close it out and honestly, I think leaving it there like a permanent fixture is really unncessary. It comes up right on top of your screen and pushes everything way down to the bottom so there is no way you can miss it. And it doesn't have to be done in such an annoying way that the message will be stuck to the top of your browser until you get the upgrade. That's ridiculous. If it just came up as a pop up message that comes on whenever you open your browser, that would still make the point just the same and wouldn't encourage me to dismiss it. Sure you have people out there with no common sense but a lot of us do. Some people are just going to complain no matter what and that's always a given.
No, issues more important to the customer. The error is worded poorly, but gets the point across. The list of supported browsers is easily accessible. The more important issues I was referring to are things like being unable to delete email or pay the Verizon bill that many people are experiencing. (Not me, personally, but then I don't get the unsupported browser message, either.) If there's coding work to be done, I vote they address the serious, service-impacting issues before they work on minor annoyances.----The error gets the point across? Not really in my opinion. Yes, you can click on supported browsers but going from saying that your browser itself is unsupported to saying that you just need an updated version of the browser is really taking the customer for a loop. I know that took me for a loop because I think that's saying two completely different things. And yes of course, email issues or paying a bill on line are important as well but I think this is just as important regardless because when there is an accumulation of messages that are communicated poorly in addition to the run around and wait time and being put on hold when calling customer service, that can really be the tipping point for a customer who has just about had it and is ready to switch to another provider. All of these providers should be taking these steps to better service the customer and to me personally, this is no different and what may be minor to a corporation is often a bigger deal to the customer dealing with it.
And how hard is it to revise the wording on an error message like that? Give me a break. For something simple that can encourage more customers to keep their service, isn't that worth it? Verizon has yet to prove to me that it cares about investing in better customer service and better communication.
I have never heard of any other provider which has its error messages worded like that taking the whole thing out of context. My services are working fine but believe me, if I had to start all over again, i.e. move to a new residence, I would not go back to Fios. There may even come a point later on where I will need to switch even while staying where I live now. Time will tell. I often don't have the luxury of wasting more time than what's necessary to resolve a problem, especially something simple. The communication and the customer service from Verizon have a lot to be desired and need a lot of hard work. If I had to grade it right now, I would give it a "D" for barely passing, just barely beneath being adequate. I think that's a fair assessment. For a provider that's getting so much of your money, it's disappointing. My time is valuable and I honestly feel that Verizon oftentimes doesn't give a darn about that. To me it's another example of having to waste more time going around in circles like the phone runaround being put on hold numerous times until you hopefully get the issue resolved.
And sure, my problem has been solved...once again after going for a loop and going for another runaround. It's not really acceptable customer service.
Excuse my cynicism but that's my opinion. For 140 bucks per month, it's not my problem that Verizon is hiring someone with poor English to write that error message. That's pathetic and who has time for that nonsense? I like the product but like I said, time will tell.

• I am getting spam to call someone for a virus alert and to purchase MacKeeper. How can I get rid of these annoying popups?

Hi All:
Which virus control software or malware product(s) or other strategies are suggested to install on my MacBook Pro (Mavericks OSX 10.9) to eliminate annoying popups and spam?

That is spam. Ignore it.
Helpful Links Regarding Malware Problems
If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide and The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Tool.
Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.

From user Joe Bailey comes this equally useful advice:
The facts are:
1. There is no anti-malware software that can detect 100% of the malware out there.
2. There is no anti-malware that can detect anything targeting the Mac because there
is no Mac malware in the wild, and therefore, no "signatures" to detect.
3. The very best way to prevent the most attacks is for you as the user to be aware that
the most successful malware attacks rely on very sophisticated social engineering
techniques preying on human avarice, ****, and fear.
4. Internet popups saying the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on
your computer is intended to entice you to install their malware thinking it is a
protection against malware.
5. Some of the anti-malware products on the market are worse than the malware
from which they purport to protect you.
6. Be cautious where you go on the internet.
7. Only download anything from sites you know are safe.
8. Avoid links you receive in email, always be suspicious even if you get something
you think is from a friend, but you were not expecting.
9. If there is any question in your mind, then assume it is malware.

• How do I get rid of an annoying yellow box displaying file data?

Within the last couple of days a yellow box displaying details of any graphic file beneath the cursor has started to appear when I switch spaces. It stays on screen for ten seconds then disappears. Clicking the mouse also removes it. It is very irritating. I recall something like this happening some time ago and was told how to remove it, but don't remember how. I would welcome suggestions.

I'm not seeing anything like that. Did you install anything lately that might be causing that?

• How can you get rid of icons in menu bar?

I recently took my MacBook to the local store to have it cleared and restored back to factory settings. I have the OS X Mountain Lion program installed. I set up two accounts (Admin account and second one to use). When I turned my computer off and back on again, I've noticed a Guest account. When I went into my System Preferences to get rid of it, I've noticed that it's greyed out (so I can't delete it). Another issue I'm having is a symbol I'm seeing up top in my menu bar (<--->. Does anyone know what this means and how I can go about getting rid of it?

In the area where it allows you to add or delete the delete symbol is greyed (shaded) out where I don't have that option to delete the "guest" account. And the ethernet symbol I'm seeing in the right hand corner of my screen is still there after deleting it in the System Preference/Network section.
