How do I get rid of these annoying virus scan pop-up windows?!?

Every time I get on my laptop, these stupid virus scan windows pop up and they won't go away! No matter if I press Eject or Cancel, and as you can see, there is NO option to x it out! Only the yellow and green buttons show up, but the red X button does not! I took a picture of four of them and then all ten that are open. It seems more keep opening up whenever another program opens or seems to be running in the background! It's so frustrating! Has anyone else ever experienced this? I have the 2008 black MacBook. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

You have some kind of anti-virus software installed, which should probably be removed. I can't immediately identify the icon, though. When these scans are running, open Activity Monitor (found in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder), click the CPU tab and make sure the items with high CPU usage numbers are sorted to the top. Then take a screenshot of the Activity Monitor window and post it here.

  • I am getting spam to call someone for a virus alert and to purchase MacKeeper. How can I get rid of these annoying popups?

    Hi All:
Which virus control software or malware product(s) or other strategies are suggested to install on my MacBook Pro (Mavericks OSX 10.9) to eliminate annoying popups and spam?

    That is spam. Ignore it.
    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Problems
If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide and The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Tool.
Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.
An excellent link to read is Tom Reed's Mac Malware Guide.

If you require anti-virus protection Thomas Reed recommends using ClamXAV. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for this recommendation.)
From user Joe Bailey comes this equally useful advice:
    The facts are:
    1. There is no anti-malware software that can detect 100% of the malware out there.
    2. There is no anti-malware that can detect anything targeting the Mac because there
is no Mac malware in the wild, and therefore, no "signatures" to detect.
    3. The very best way to prevent the most attacks is for you as the user to be aware that
the most successful malware attacks rely on very sophisticated social engineering
techniques preying on human avarice, ****, and fear.
    4. Internet popups saying the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on
your computer is intended to entice you to install their malware thinking it is a
        protection against malware.
    5. Some of the anti-malware products on the market are worse than the malware
from which they purport to protect you.
    6. Be cautious where you go on the internet.
    7. Only download anything from sites you know are safe.
    8. Avoid links you receive in email, always be suspicious even if you get something
you think is from a friend, but you were not expecting.
    9. If there is any question in your mind, then assume it is malware.

  • How do i get rid of these specific kind of pop-up ads?

I am getting a specific kind of pop-up ad in Safari and Chrome (all Internet Browsers) even with the pop-up blocker.  I don't know what happened, but after visiting a blog online, I starting having this problem.  I have been searching high and low for an answer and have yet to find one.  I have tried a number of internet malware and virus programs that remove this kind of stuff but nothing is detected.  It says the computer is clean (but oviously isn't).  I looked into possible plugins that may cause this and still nothing.
This image below is what the pop-ups look like (notice bottom left corner):
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM, PLEASE!?

Any input on how to choose a 'safe' torrent?  I'm not a **** dude, just get the tv shows/movies that aren't available to me overseas.
The problem is, there really isn't a safe way to get that kind of stuff, other than through a legal streaming service like iTunes, Netflix or Hulu or Amazon Prime. Torrents and all the various "free" streaming sites are actually illegal, and typically run from countries with lax laws on such things in order to make money from advertising through adware. They may also get involved in actual malware at times, as well.
If these legal outlets don't provide the content you want because of the country you're connecting from, one option would be to sign up for a VPN (virtual private network) service with servers in the country you want to stream content from. So, if you want to stream videos from the US, sign up for a US-based VPN service, then stream through that.

  • I want the Google and Yahoo fight on my browser to go away. How do I get rid of these stupid notifications asking me to make one or the other my defaults?

I use Google. My browser is set with Google.ca as my homepage and Google is my default search engine.
For a while I was getting messages asking me if I wanted to know how to make Yahoo my defaults...I managed to get rid of that crap...
But now I get bars popping up at the top of my screen asking me if I want to switch to Google...either my homepage or my default search engine...toss-up which one will come up when I open my browser.
Even though everything is set for Google I still get these obnoxious pushed "suggestions".
How do I get rid of these?
Right now it's looking like using IE is the only way...

You will get them on IE. I suggest you also contact Google support, as this is also a problem on their end. I too have everything set to Google on both Firefox, Opera, IE, and Chrome and the only one not getting the annoying banners is surprising Google Chrome.

If you used iTunes to get the photos on the phone, then use the same iTunes and uncheck the music you don't want and do another sync.

  • HT1229 Ive move photos but they appear as duplicates in iPhoto.   When you try and open them it says Photo can't be found.  I have thousands.  How do I get rid of these images?

Hi Ive moved photos but they appear as duplicates in iPhoto.   When you try and open them it says Photo can't be found.  I have thousands.  How do I get rid of these images?
Also I have many duplicate photos (from backups)  It would be great to be able to remove all duplicates at one time, like in Itunes.
    Can this be done?

You moved what photos from where and to where?
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

iPhoto 9.6 cannot open iPhoto Libraries on CD/DVD. The iPhoto Library needs to be on a writable storage.  Copy the iPhoto library from the disk to a folder in your Pictures folder. And then run the iPhoto Library Upgrader on that copy, see this link:  iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrader

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

how do i get rid of the annoying wifi connect screen, even after i have rejected and cancelled using it and revert to 3g?

Actually just turn off "Ask to join networks". Settings ->  Wi-Fi -> Ask to Join Networks. This way your wi-fi will still work at home or anywhere that you want to use it but you won't get prompted to join unknown networks.

How do I get rid of the annoying pop up from the adobe trial after I have bought and installed adobe pro?

This isn't an annoying pop-up. Rather, it is seriously telling you that it doesn't know that you have licensed the software, and it will continue to be a trial, and will stop when the 30 days are up.
So you must tell it that you have licensed the software.
