How do I import movies with an AVI format taken with a digital SLR?

How do I import movies with an AVI format taken with a digital SLR?

If you cannot import using File Menu > Import Movies... You'll have to convert them on a Mac.
You will need to use a free app called MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5.
Basically, you drag the .mts file into MPEG Streamclip. Then use FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME and choose Apple Intermediate Codec as your codec. And it will save out to a .mov file and iMovie will edit this format like there was no tomorrow

    Here you go Karsten:

Looks like it records in AVI format at 25 fps. I think that should import to iMovie OK - if not it should import to iPhoto and then be available in the iMovie Events Library under "iPhoto Videos". Importing shouldn't be a problem based on this extract from the web page:
"The glasses can be hooked directly to a PC with the supplied USB cable to view the video, or when using the Micro SD card, it can be inserted into a card reader to watch footage."

  • How do I import movies from camera?

    Hi.
I have a Lumix FZ38 camera. Although iPhoto 6 does not recognise the make or model, it does at least let me import still photos.
But how do I import movies? They are in "Motion JPEG" format, but neither iPhoto, Quicktime or iMovie recognises them. I can navigate in Finder to a camera directory called PRIVATE where I can see the movies in a sub-folder, as .MTS files. How do I get them into iPhoto, or failing that, onto my Mac?
If I had chosen to record using AVCHD Lite they would be in H.264 and therefore not a problem, but the 'Quick Record' button which I use records in this other format.
(I'm not about to upgrade my hardware or software BTW, so please don't suggest that.)

You need to use iMovie for these movies, but there's a particular protocol needed for getting MTS >format material from your camera to the app. I have no idea if iMovie 6 supports it or not. Post on >the iMovie forum for more.
    I will try - thanks.
iPhoto doesn't support AVCHD Lite which is a proprietary version of the AVCHD format peculiar to >Panasonic. I know that recent versions of iMovie do support this material. I have no idea if iMovie 6 >will, again post on the iMovie forum for more.
I thought H.264 was widely supported by Apple (e.g. on iPods etc)? The MacWorld reviews suggested this wouldn't a problem.
(I'm not about to upgrade my hardware or software BTW, so please don't suggest that.)
Well you may need to be realistic about the chances of software from 2006 supporting formats that >didn't even exist then.
I'm not being stubborn for the sake of it. My computer is a good balance of 2006 hardware and software. I'm not even sure that iLife '09 is compatible with a G5? And even if it was I'd barely use it (iTunes yes, but that's not iLife; Photoshop yes, ditto) so shelling out for it, just for a version of iPhoto isn't an option really. I just want a way to replay my movies outside my camera, is all. H.264 was one of the reasons I bought that camera (I've read about that format for literally years in Mac magazines.)

You can import through the iPad camera connection kit, which is available from Apple.
Tell us more about what kind of camera.
And if I did not guess right about your iPad, let me know.
There is a discussion group for iMovie on IOS Devices like the iPad here, where people have more knowledge.

While you're in itunes, with the leftside window open, click on Apps. Then, look across the top middle of your itunes screen. You will see several choices: All, Iphone/iPad Touch, Ipad, Ipod Games, List, and Updates.
Clicking on each of these gives you a different view.
When you select ALL you will see all of your apps. When you select Updates you sill see only the apps that need to be updated. When you are in Updates you will see the Update button in the lower right corner.
    Hope this helps.

How do I import movies from sony HDR PJ200?

hi, if your movies are recorded in AVCHD formats, they are not supported by iMovie so far. So, to make the conversion seems to be the best choice now. Except the brorsoft suggested by emmalucky, Video Mate also fits your mac well. IMovie accepted video formats includs .DV, .MOV, .MPEG-4, .M4V、H.264, .AIC. So, you can convert your movies to above video formats. Hope this help.

You actually don't need to make a flipbook yourself. There are paid and free, ready-to-use flipbooks in Flash or HTML5 available which you just need to configure and then put all images into a specific folder and the flipbook runs them.

  • I cant play movies in the avi format

I download a movie that is avi format, but when i put it into quicktime it says it wont play it. Help please.

    Hello, IPODTIM,
Do you know WHICH avi format was used to make the movies? That is, which CODEC?
Do you get a viewer window with a warning message? What does the message say?
Do you get a message, but NO viewer window? What does that message say?
If you get the window and a message, close the message, but not the window (not by clicking "close," if that's what one of your options is, but by clicking the other option, whatever it is it might be "ok" or "continue" or...??? - different kinds of files prompt different messages).
Then click "Command-i" and note what it says immediately after "format"
That will be the info on the codec.
If you've got a divx (or 3ivx) file, the solution will be one sort of thing; if it's IV50 (or one of the other Indeo codecs) it will be something else; etc., etc. (Both of those, by the way, can be viewed by QuickTime with some add-ons, though the Indeo files must be watched in QuickTime Classic or OS 9. Some others may require a different viewer - most likely VLC, which is available at no charge.)
Having had problems with AVIs in the past, I can help with some of these (specifically, those named above). Other readers can no doubt help with the rest.

  • How can I import movie form a JVC camera with a .TOD extention

    Hello everyone,
I took some movie from my holiday with a JVC camera. And as good mac user, I wish to use iMovie to try to make some movies.
The problem is that iMovie does not accept movie with TOD extention.
Then I have no idea how could I transform my movies with a mp4 extention or with an extention compatible with iMovie 9.
Do you have any idea which will help me?
    Thank

    Hi,
I work for JVC and would like to try and help.
Older JVC HD camcorders recorded HD video in MPEG2 with a .tod file extension.
There were several recording speeds on your camcorder. If you recorded in the 1440CBR mode, then you may be able to capture the video to your camcorder via i.Link (Firewire). Don't try it with USB. It won't work. Only via Firewire. Look in your instruction book for a topic called "Playlist Dubbing".
If you did not record in the 1440CBR mode, and you wish to connect via USB, there is one other possible option: Apple offered compatibility with this, but only for one generation of iMovie. That was iMovie 06 HD. If you install iMovie 06 HD, you will be able to import your .tod files and edit them.
You can purchase iMovie 06 HD as a part of the iLife 06 software suite which can still be found on E-Bay. You will also need to install the Quick Time Plug-In which was on the CD-ROM that came with your camcorder. Depending on your OS, there is also a Quick Time update from JVC that you may need to install.
Alternately, you need to look at file conversion software.
More recent JVC HD Everio camcorders record in the AVCHD format which works flawlessly with iMovie '08 or iMovie '09 as long as your Mac has an Intel processor.
    I hope this helps.
    Chris
