How do I install a file named "firefox_plugin_2.1.1.0720.fzip" ?

Hi,
I am trying to install a firefox extension from Foxit software (PDF reader) but firefox always comes back and says it is unable to start anti-virus program
Then when I get past that the file: how do I install a file named "firefox_plugin_2.1.1.0720.fzip" will not unzip or load into firefox. How do I get the program/extension to load?
Thank you

Hi and thanks for getting back to me.
Normally I am able to do most things with Windows and most programs..
However, I am not able to open the file with Firefox as it wants me to tell it which program to use.
I have the file on my desktop, but Notepad will not open it.
Firefox also asks me which program to use when Firefox is asking me "what should firefox do with this file?" That happens after I have gone to Firefox/File/Open file and it gives me the question of what do you want Firefos to do with this file.
The only choices are to open it or save it.
My problem is I do not know which program to select to open it.
So which program should I use?
Very sorry and thank you again.

  • How do you install a file system on an empty partition?

Hi. I'm running 10.3.9 on a B&W G3. I've formatted a 100Gb drive with a 40Gb partition on which Panther is installed (and which is running even as I type) and several empty partitions. I was going to install OS 9 on one of the empty partitions, but Disk Utility doesn't seem to want to let me do install a file system on an empty partition. Hence, the OS 9 installer can't find the empty partitions, and therefore can't install.
Is there another way to put a file system on an empty partition?

    Matt--
One suggestion: if you can't figure out how to put a file system on the empty space, you could clone your current partition to an external drive, re-partition the internal drive drive and then clone the external back. Like John, I've heard of utilities that can re-partition a drive without erasing your data, but I just can't imagine using one if I didn't have a clone anyway. So that's what I've done when I want to change a partition size.

  • How do I install lesson files without a disk drive?

I just bought a new iMac. It does not have a disk drive. How do I install Adobe Photoshop Classroom in a Book Lesson files?

Put the disk in a computer that does have a CD/DVD player and copy them over a network (if possible) or to a USB thumb drive.
That, or buy yourself an external USB DVD drive.

    fish,
So you compiled a C or C++ service function with
    cl /c [... other options] myservice.c
    and now you have myservice.obj?
    In that case, use
    buildserver -f myservice.obj [ .. other options ] -o myserver.exe
to generate a Tuxedo server called myserver.exe
    Regards,
    Peter.

Run Windows or find a Mac version of the software or buy a Windows computer.
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows 7 or Windows 8.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. A more recent comparison of Parallels, VM Fusion, and Virtual Box is found at Virtualization Benchmarks- Parallels 10 vs. Fusion 7 vs. VirtualBox. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard and later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • How do I restore original file naming on an import

Through a process of idiocy and confusion, I've ended up with TWO creation dates on my files, e.g. 20140112-20140112-Johnny at the beach.  I tried the step back, step back, step back system, or "undo, undo" but that didn't succeed.  I've tried creating a new catalogue to re-import the photos from iPhoto, but I've mislaid the File Renaming Panel that my Lightroom tutor's handout mentions as being on the right-hand side of the screen.  I can only see Histogram and Keyword list.
When I try and rename the files individually, I don't get an option to merely remove one of the 201401112 key strings, I get a series of checkboxes.
I know I've done wrong, but I want to undo it and not make it worse.  I'm scared that if I restore original settings, I'll delete all of my images - all 1400+ of them!
Anyone who can give a solution gets a lovely cake.

I suggest you stop Re-Naming your images on import and place them in folders by the date they were shot. Lightroom can do that for you on import from card or camera or you can do it yourself manually before you import them into LR. You could also put the Sub-folders by date in a top level folder by year or just in one folder named whatever you like.
Not sure why people Re-Name their images when copying them from the card/camera to their hard drive. To me that makes no sense at all. If I have images that I want to separate from others I will manually re-name them and or assign a keyword or rating to them. You can also have collections of images by subject, location, date or whatever you like and those collections can be from any folder imported into LR.
The only time I would even think about re-naming images on import, and or copying to my hard drive, is if I have 2 identical cameras. Which I have in the past. But even then I changed the file naming in the camera having one cameras files start with 1 and the other start with 2

  • Mac was hacked on local network by roommate-how to re-install my files w/o reistalling command/terminal hack codes?

I have a Mac Book Pro running latest version on Mountian Lion
Processor  2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 4000 512 MB
    Memory  8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Software  OS X 10.8.3 (12D78)
My roommate hacked my Mac. I assume he did this via an old Mac he use to have access to, & then made changes via his PC & his Android phone (can tell by comparing Terminal to Access & Little Snitch) & since the codes I found all were as my User name & as Root Access... Thinking he started gaining access through the weak spot via Reboot Disk & Terminal access from there-though he denys it completely... (But I printed it all out) He accessed ALL my passwords & at the time I didn't know that as I kept trying to change things & lock things up... he was getting hidden files of EVERYTHING I WAS DOING & had remote access to my system, anything I did & camera on my mac.
He hid files with sudo codes in Terminal & had constant any access via remote access, booting, starting or turning off as well as secretly deleting any files or notactions he wanted. He was ghost.
So now not only did he has complete access to my computer & camera... He would enter my room & take what he wants & then access my computer to delete EvoCam files/videos/pics.
He also has been tracking everything I do on my computer and assume he has figured out how to hack my phone by now as well.
He will be an EX-ROOMMATE as soon as I can legally get him out. But until then I am stuck. (Buying locks for all 3 of my bedroom & closet room access doors too!)
I currently have him blocked off the local network & internet. But that won't last long.
I jcopied over to my external hard drive all my important info, pics, files and just deleted the rest.
It took many hours to get my mac to actually delete everything (I HOPE) & then finally let me re-load Mountain Lion. Now I am slowly adding back programs. I think he was also using the Windows interface & some Windows program to sneak past my firewall & all the stops I put up to block him off local.net.
Changed ALL my passwords again-already. Hopefully by zeroing out my hard drive numerous times that it deleted his lines of codes.
Tested in Terminal some of the lines of codes he used (Just lsof & ls -a, history, etc)
    SOOO MY QUESTIONS ARE:
Is there a way to let him use the network without him being able to access my Mac??
I have ALL ways I can find to turn off any file sharing, local or remote access... but I did that last time & he figured out a way around it!
My Nework is on a NETGEAR Range Max N wireless router. I configured it this time via Ethernet instead of by Wireless-made my Mac only machine to make changes & only via Ethernet access. (Gave Ethernet & Wireless each their own IP address.)
I also turned off the remote access again, locked in IP addresses to specific machines/phones/Pads... IE 192.168.1.2... on Router.
I also installed Little Snitch, Have Tech Tools 6... Need a good virus protection... (did find some crap only in a couple of my emails when I used one I downloaded as a trial before the re-format... )
    Worried about installing Windows again.
How do I block him from getting root access again?
How do I keep him from hidding any codes?
Thank you in advance for your help & suggestions!

Well when he hacked it.. he took control of root & istalled a couple of programs from what I could tell-unforchantly don't have print outs of that.
He added ARDAgent,  .user.sbin/aonotifyd lsoscript -e 'tell app ARDAgent diskutil list pdisk ls root ls local.com sudo ~/ .bsh.profile... was the part I started printing at...
    WHAT THE HECK IS: jbapps-
then he went into mdworker, then added private screensharing.agent.launchd,
    then private event
    then private mdsDirectory.db
then private messages mdsDirectory & se_SecurityMessages, & Private screensharing agent
then accessed root access & got a list of every password that I had & used...
    Then installed Microsoft office \2011\Office\uniscribe.framework\Versions\12\Uniscribe
    the WLMUser.framework then accessed atcp:8254
    then core tools
    the path/to/file.txt

and on & on & on...
He got drunk...really drunk one night & told me that he saw something in my room... and then I found he had hidden the Facetime camera & an account had been setup which I never set up...
A couple of programs got installed that I never install too. Plus when I went to reinstall my Mac there were four choices listed of places I could "istall Mountain Lion" to. One listd was my thumb drive-duh,, one was the hard drive, one was a PC Windows Drive??? the other was the partioned Reinstall part that Lion put on...
Yeahhh... going to have to put the locks on all 3 doors.. the router is in my room as well as the old Mac & the cable modem. But the internet cable runs through his room to get to mine....
I just have to get him out as soon as I can without cleaning me out first & setting it back up to where he has access to my machine or my phone.
I wonder if he has hacked my phone... is there a way to tell?

  • Adding 2nd drive (10k raptor for O/S)... but how do I install / copy files?

Here's the dilemma - pls excuse my mac ignorance... been a PC guy all my life and recently switched.
My current 250 gig is about maxed. Bought a 150gig 10k raptor suggested by DS STORE to run as OS & apps.
    Problem is two-fold:
    1) I am using 230gigs now... how can I "copy" the drive to the new 150gig raptor and run the OS?
    2) How do I mac which drive to run as OS... since my 250 will still have the OS (until i wipe it clean).
    Thanks in advance!!
    jp

    Ok,
1: Install the Raptor and reboot, the machine will ask if you want to format.
Do what you need to do so it pops up in Disk utility and then Erase w/Zero and format HFS+(journaled) the default setting.
    Go eat lunch or something.
2: Now insert the Tiger install disk and reboot holding C, you'll boot off the disk. You can select Disk Utility from the menu and Repair Disk on your boot drive while your there (only way it can be done is from another booted drive)
3: Install Tiger on the Raptor, you might want to install the Developers tools as well just to check it out. Install the iLife package "extras" or whatever that's also included (my disks are different)
4: Once that's done set the Raptor as the Startup disk in the Installer Menu, reboot.
5: You should now be greeted with the setup, use your same user name as you used on the stock drive. Avoid migration assistant totally.
6: Get online and update your OS to 10.4.7 and repeat until clear. Repair permissions.
7: Now comes the fun part, install your apps from original sources/cds and cherry pick apps off the stock drive. Replace the iTunes folder from the one on your stock drive. (don't open iTunes yet) Replace the User/Library/Safari and User/Library/Mail folders from the ones on the stock drive. Make sure you replace them in the exact same spots as on the other drive.
8: Now rename your stock drive to something else, rename your Raptor to what the old stock drive name was. Open iTunes and your playlists, rating etc should be magically appear correct. (because you matched the pathnames in the iTunes XML file)
9: Import your Mail boxes and open Safari, the history and bookmarks should be fine.
Now run off the Raptor for some time, trick it out the way you want, it's a brand new system, clean and clear of any past security issues, installs etc.
My method seems like it's a bit more work, but you get a much better and more relaible system this way, free of anything that may have been "deposited" on your drive. A half assedd clone is not the way to go here, certainly not migration assistant either which copies stuff blindly and misses copy protection hidden files.
You should at this time clone this pristine boot puppy to a external hard drive, visit Carbon Copy Cloner forums for details and advice posts. A clone is option bootable, you can repair/recover or simply reverse clone in case something bad occurs. If your drive dies, just run off of it until a new one appears etc.
Now you already have a stock drive nearly full, removing the OS and apps isn't going to give you a heck of a lot of free space for the future, but it might be enough.
Obviously there is no room on the Raptor and you need to reformat the stock drive to get rid of the OS completely. So your going to need a external drive to copy the files off the stock drive. If it's a new drive, always Zero it once before loading it up to eliminate any potential bad sectors. Later you can use this drive for a clone of your boot drive and any essential files.
Once you got everything off loaded, Erase (w/zero if not done) this stock drive and then bring all your files back from the external drive.
Later make the external drive a clone of your boot drive and keep essential files, over flow etc there.
Keep your Raptor below 50%, keep it chiefly a boot/app/bare bones home/iTunes music drive for best performance.
I keep my movies on a external drive, only bringing them into iTunes to get them on the iPod, then I delete them out of iTunes so my boot drive stays fast and lean.

  • How do you install zipped files

I have downloaded a zipped file and when I open it to install it I can't find where it goes. I have ended up saving it about ten times. I am new with the apple but this is the first time I have not been able to install a download. Thanks for your help.

If you have downloaded the zipped file from the web, it should go into your "Downloads" folder, based on the preferences in your web browers.
Are you using Safari? If you are, go to the downloads window, right-click, select "Show in Finder".
Once the file is unzipped, you can select the unzipped disk image or installer and launch it to install your application.

  • How can I install pkg files

I am trying to install the business note writer software on the iPad . I have unzipped the file but c,icing on the . Pkg files does nothing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You can't, you can only install apps downloaded from the iTunes app store on your computer and the App Store app directly on the iPad - you can't use Mac (OS X) or PC software on the iPad (iOS), they are different operating systems.

  • How to search for a file and copy it to somewhere else in terminal

So basically how can I search for a file on my computer named "testingtesting.txt" and copy it to my desktop using terminal? I have very little experience in terminal, so I was going to try and use the mdfind command, then store that output as a variable, and use that variable as the source for the cp command, but I feel like there is probably a much simpler method. So basically how could I find a file named "testingtesting.txt", copy it, and paste it to my desktop using terminal.

Is there any particular reason that you must use Terminal?
You could just download the free EasyFind from the App Store and find the file quickly. Do whatever you wish with it.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • How do I install Snow Leopard while keeping files, applications, and settings

I need to update my system, I realized that I need Snow Leopard (quiet late) before Maverick. My question is, how can I install it keeping files and all the data. I found this on Internet, does it work?
Install Snow Leopard while keeping files, applications, and settings
If you follow these steps, the installer will replace your operating system if one is already present, but will preserve your account information and personal files.  You may have to reinstall some applications, however.
Insert the install disc (or the first install disc if you have more than one) into your disc drive. Restart your computer while holding down the c key. This causes your computer to start up from the install disc rather than your hard drive. When you see the gray Apple insignia, release c .
The Mac OS X installer should open automatically. Follow the on-screen prompts to read and accept the license agreement and begin the installation. When prompted to choose a destination disk, select your preferred location and click Install.
When the Mac OS X installation finishes with the disc, restart your computer. After the installation completes, a configuration program may begin automatically if you are installing for the first time. You will need to supply basic setup information for your computer.
Update your system software to ensure that you have the most recent operating system components.  From the Apple menu, select Software Update... , and then follow the instructions on the screen. Often, you will have to restart your computer, and you may have to run Software Update multiple times before it can completely update your system.

That's why you need to back it up. You won't need to restore the backup immediately afterwards unless something goes wrong during the upgrade, but you'll need it later; the drive will eventually fail.
