How do i install "Apple Remote Desktop 3.3" on Lion(10.7) i have the Unlimited client version....
It tells me that the ARD 3.3 dont work on lion but 3.5 do... How do i upgrade it? Do i need to buy a new verion again to use it on Lion ?
Hi here same thing.. i have Lion 10.7 installed.. every thing worked fine untill last night.. after the latest update.. ARD 3.5 inmediately 'hangs' on startup.
tried to set previous ARD from day before but no help..
then i tried to delete the whole program.. and re install it from my 500 dollar CD.. it won't install under 10.7.
whats next?! what is the solution?!
please help.. i work with it every day!!

I need to install Apple Remote Desktop to help a client but the App store only shows that the latest version is compatible with OS X 10.7. I found where I can download the 3.5.3 version of the app (compatible with OS X 10.6.8) but when I try to install it, it says it can't install because it can't find where the app is currently installed in order to update it. I don't want to pay the $80 for the latest version only to find that it won't install on my 10.6.8 and still be unable to install an older version of the app that DOES work with 10.6.8. Any ideas what I should do? I don't have a problem paying the $80 but I just need to make sure I will be able to use the software I pay for.

ThanksOk, maybe I have answered my own questions in doing more research. I guess if I want/need the latest version and I have OS X 10.7, I can purchase it from the app store. If I need a previous version, I can purchase a retail packaging version of Apple Remote Desktop 3 from various vendors online. Once purchased and installed, I should be able to install update 3.5.3 to be on the latest version my OS will support. Does that sound correct? I just want to make sure I do this right.

hello Dahveed, thanks for your reply, i solved it with the help of the migration assistant from another mac - now it works (but before as more info: for my new imac it was not possible to install apple remote desktop from appstore (the install-button not available, the same as installed already...) - and i don't know why...? - is it possible that the reason is the number of owned macs?)

How can I get Apple Remote Desktop to disappear from my App Store updates list?
My Apple Remote Desktop software shows up in my App Store updates list. But I have already updated it to version 3.6.1 and it shows as "Installed". It is greyed out and will not go away. Any ideas on how to make it disappear is most appreciated.
All the suggestions I have read have not worked for me.

I installed a wrong version of Apple remote desktop client , 2.10 and the sharing menu under system preferences vanished. I tried to uninstall the Apple remote desktop with,

but no luck, but after restarting the macbook pro with lion 10.7.2, i see my sharing option enabled but when clicked, it says the system preference has to restart and confirming that it restarts in 32 bit mode and even after clciking the sharing option it says, "you can't open sharing preferences because it doesn't work on an intel-based mac"
. So i strongly believe the apple remote desktop is creating the issue.
Can someone help how to fix this please?
ThanksSame problem here. I manage several remote Macs, but I have one MacBook which I can get no ARD access to (black icon). I can ping the IP, I can SSH into the MacBook, the ARD and Remote Login services are checked ON, the firewall is OFF. The ARD service is configured to allow my admin user full access - however, I get nothing. I have no trouble getting into the other Macs.

Can't install Apple Remote Desktop 3.5.1 custom installer on Lion 10.7.3
Ever since Lion 10.7.3 was released, I've not been able to install the custom client installer package that I've made with Apple Remote Desktop 3.5.1.
The error I get is "Remote Desktop Client Update can't be installed on this disk. A newer version of this package is already installed".
I'm guessing this is to do with Apple releasing the ARD 3.5.2 client, but not releasing a new server.
Is there any way of me tweaking the custom installer, so this can be installed? Or do I have have to wait for ARD server to be upgraded to 3.5.2? :-|I was able to download the ARD 3.5.2 Client and take the customisations from the generated custom client installer.
To do this you need to expand the Custom Installer to a directory somewhere (in this example I'll expand it to a directory on the desktop)
pkgutil --expand CustomClientInstaller.pkg ~/Desktop/CustomClientInstaller
Inside the expanded package, there are 3 files which are appended with "_entries" which seem to contain the customisations that are specified during the package generation process. So, we need to copy these to a temporary location...
cp ~/Desktop/CustomClientInstaller/RemoteDesktopClient.pkg/Scripts/Tools/*_entries ~/Desktop
Now, what we need to do is expand the ARD Client we just downloaded (3.5.2) and apply the customisations to it...
pkgutil --expand RemoteDesktopClient.pkg ~/Desktop/RemoteDesktopClient
cp ~/Desktop/*_entries ~/Desktop/RemoteDesktopClient/RemoteDesktopClient.pkg/Scripts/Tools
pkgutil --flatten ~/Desktop/RemoteDesktopClient CustomRemoteDesktopClient.pkg
You should now have an up-to-date customised ARD client. Note that I have not fully tested all of the options, such as creating users. It may be necessary to look at this post if the newly customised ARD client has problems creating a new user.

Apple Remote Desktop serial number never memorized
I just installed Apple Remote Desktop on a new computer.
Here are my versions:
– MacOS X 10.6.4;
– ARD 3.3.2.
Everytime I start ARD,
my "Name:" and "Organization:"
fields are as correctly filled as I did it on the first
time.
But the field "Serial Number:" is empty, when I enter it
correctly everytime.
Where is this useless checking coming from?
How may I get rid of such a checking window?

I have just installed Apple Remote desktop 3 and when I start, it gives me a error message that the installed apple remote desktop client is a previous version. The installed apple remote desktop client on my machine is 2.1 but how can I verify that? And how can I fix this error?

OmerTry this: remove ARD client using the instructions here and then reinstall. If the problem persists, try installing the ARD 3.2 client using this installer.

iMac at work, iMac at home. (Latest Yosemite and Apple Remote Desktop updates installed) Need to work from home at night. I don't know how to set my permissions so that I can just control my iMac at work.
If they have set up port forwarding for you already then that is different. In that case, then you could be experiencing the bug with the most recent release of ARD (3.7.2) and in particular ARD 3.7.2 and Yosemite ARD version 3.8 clients. It has been reported numerous times in the forums and to Apple that since 3.7.2, clients are frequently unavailable to connect to despite there being no network issue between the remote computer and client computer. I have not seen anyone report it who was working from outside the LAN to inside the LAN, but I have the same issue with a number of my own computers that are simply on a different subnet, so it stands rot reason that it would happen from a port forwarding location.
I am sometimes able to resolve the issue locally by SSH connecting into the client computer using Terminal on my admin machine and restarting or relaunching the ARD agent on the remote device, then trying to connect to it again after about 30 seconds.
The Terminal commands for this procedure are as follows, though you might need to include a port number from outside the LAN:
First:
ssh ipaddress -l adminusername
(example: ssh 192.168.1.1 -l macadmin)
Second:
sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/k ickstart -restart -agent
After that, waiting about 30 seconds and trying to observe or control usually works, though the computer may still fail to show an online or lit-up status indicator. -
How can I deploy my AAMEE without Apple Remote Desktop?

I created a build for Adobe CS6 Production Premium for Mac with the serial number embedded, along with the current updates. All is well with that; however, this is the issue that I am having:
I have tried to test the build on a local machine (the computer I created the build on) and was able to install the package with no issues; however, when I try to deploy build onto a networked machine, it doesn't work.
I have read through the AAMEE Reference Guide and have read (if I am not mistaken) that for CS6, you can only deploy an AAMEE build through Apple Remote Desktop onto multiple machines. I have also read that you would need Apple Remote Desktop on all of the machines you want the build to deploy on.
If that is case, if I have read the guide correctly, what is the point of deploying the build through a network if you have to still install ARD onto all the machines you want the software one? How can you get around this to be able to deploy your AAMEE successfully onto a network on machines?
When I tried it last night on one network Mac with ARD, I received the error message for "Validating packages...". I'm not sure what that means because the build works perfectly on local machine.
Any ideas would help as far as deploying the build on a network without using ARD, or really, just a simpler alternative that works?

You can deploy package using any of these tools - ARD, SSH, Casper suite, Absolute manage, Land desk..and may be more but we have only tried these.
We have mentioned ARD as an example, but other standard tools can be very well used for deploying package. and there is no need to have ARD installed on all machines where you want to deploy the package, but only on admin machine.
can you please let me know - which client OS are you trying to deploy the package and whether the client machine is logged or logged in? please forward install.log if you are facing the error.

How to Completely Remove/Uninstall Apple Remote Desktop?
This is for my home office system.
I do not want Remote Desktop installed on my home system. There is no reason for it there. Nobody needs to access my machine remotely and I do not even like the idea that there is an application on my machine that would enable anyone remote access to my machine.
When I first got this machine, I deleted what I thought were all the files associated with Remote Desktop. I have no files anywhere on my machine named "Remote Desktop" or "RemoteDesktop" or "ARD", yet I'm CONSTANTLY getting the Software Update alert, telling me I need to install "Remote Desktop Client Update 3.3.2".
For months now I've been ignoring it, and just un-checking the install box every time I need to do updates of other apps. But it is now driving me up the wall.

That update message has nothing to do with uninstalling Apple Remote Desktop, which you have either uninstalled already or never had. All versions of Mac OS X since 10.4 have had the ARD client as part of the installation, and there's no way to remove it (not without hacking your system, anyway).
What is the problem with you just accepting the update? It's not going to hurt anything; unless you turn on Screen Sharing or Remote Management, no one can gain access to your computer. But if you want to not see that update presented, select it when it appears in Software Update and choose "Ignore Update" from the Update menu. Just unchecking it will only keep it from installing; it will not keep it from being presented again the next time you run Software Update.
