CS5 does not support ACR 8.5, it only goes as far as 6.7.
You will need to convert your raw files to DNG format with the free converter. http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/digital-negative.html

I have Lightroom 4.3 and it keeps asking for Camera Raw 7.3 when I want to edit photos in Photoshop CS6 from LR. My understanding of the Adobe support site is that Camera Raw 7.3 is only available via the Update function in Photoshop. I updated Photoshop but LR still asks for Camera Raw 7.3 and Photoshop still shows Camera Raw 7.2 as the installed version (under System info) and the Update function says Photoshop is up to date...how do I fix this?
There doesn't seem to be an easy way round this problem. How can I download a discrete CR 7.3 executable? My OS is Windows 8.

In the mac app store version of Elements 10 there is 'get updates' link on the help menu. And when I try to do it manually from a download I get a message telling me that 'this update no applicable'.

Apple only provides support for problems with updates released via the app store and adobe has NEVER bothered to issue updates anything offered through the app store, so you can't get any help from apple for this.

Camera Raw is not a separate application that can be identified and used separately from Photosho. It is a plug-in that is accessed from Photoshop or Bridge or Photoshop Elements. When you attempt to open a raw image the plug-in is activated if it is able to recognize the files created by the camera you used. However, support must be provided for every individual camera model. Updates must be provided with this new support. The latest version of Camera Raw that can be used with Photoshop CS5 is Camera Raw 6.7. You can find out what version of Camera Raw is installed by going to the help menu in Photoshop and then clicking on plug-ins->Camera Raw. If the version that is reported is older than 6.7 then you can click on help->updates and obtain an installation of the last version of Camera Raw you can use. If your camera is newer than what was supported in Camera Raw 6.7 then you will have to use the DNG converter or purchase Photoshop CS6, or subscribe to the creative cloud photography plan ($9.99/month).

I know this is an ancient version! But for now it's all I need. Anyway...
My Adobe Updater says "No Internet connection. Please check your Internet settings and/or firewall. Waiting for connection..." That's the first problem. I figured out how to manually update Photoshop and Bridge, but Adobe Updater still shows this message when trying to check for updates. Also, I've tried to update Camera Raw from 4.0 to 4.6 and I can't figure out how to manually install it. I knkow the website says to do the following:
Mac:

Navigate to the root of the local disk (not the user’s home folder).
Navigate to Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS3/File Formats.
Move the existing plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensureyou keep this version in case you need to revert back.
Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw, from the download into the same folder as in Step 4.
Launch Photoshop CS3 or Adobe Bridge.
I manually entered "Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS3/File Formats" and it says this folder doesn't exist. Can anyone help me update my camera raw?!

Failure to install Camera Raw update

I tried to install Camera Raw 6.4.1 update for CS5 (doing so from within CS5) but it failed twice. The screen says to contact customer support which I did, but was told that they no longer support this version and I should go to the forums.

Problems with Installing Camera Raw update for PSE 10 from Apple Appstore

Hi. Need some help, I have just bought Photoshop Elements 10 from Apple App Store directly from MAC. I realised a few things
1. That software directly downloads and i could not find any serial number for it
2. That software does not include Organizer, or how do i access it. It seems to be not the same as directly downloaded from adobe website
3. the Camera Raw software 6.5 does not look like full featured, it has a number of missing tabs. I tried to download the 6.6 Update and 6.5 Camera Raw Update but both could not be installed

Can't install Camera Raw update

I have never been able to install the current update for Camera Raw with PSE 6.0 for Mac. Even though I initially installed PSE 6.0 with all the default settings and location (Applications folder), I get the following error message when attempting to install the Camera Raw update, "The Updater is unable to locate the product to be updated."
I access the update via PSE's "Updates..." under the "Help" menu. How can I fix this? Thanks.

The PSE 6 updater can never ever update ACR, so just shut it off. You need to go here:

download the update and manually install it according to the directions. Be sure to remove the old plug-in first.

Having Trouble Installing Camera Raw Update

Everytime I try to install a camera raw update it (I need it to be able to see my images in bridge, etc.) I get completely through the installation process only to receive an "installation failed" message. Any idea how to get around this?

For PSE 6, get the .plugin out of the download, then go to your hard drive>library>Application Support>Adobe>plug-ins>file formats and remove the old plug-in, then put just the new .plugin file in there instead. Older versions of PSE can't update ACR from the help menu the way PSE 10 can.

I am trying to install the camera raw update 6.6 to my newly purchased CS5 extended and I keep getting an error code U44M2P7, or U44M1P7. I really need to figure this out because it will not read the raw files from my Nikon D7000 without this update. Business will be picking up for me in the next few weeks so I hope to get this figured out soon. Thanks in advance for any help!
