How do I install windows 7 on a macbook pro mid 2009 using bootcamp and no optical drive?

How do I install windows 7 on a macbook pro mid 2009 using bootcamp and no optical drive?
My optical drive is non-functional and I want to dual boot with win7. The only problem is my macbook does not boot from USB at all, even when I hold th ALT key down when it is starting up.
-I have a flashdrive with win7 on it.
-I mounted the ISO of win7 with toast for bootcamp to do its thing.

Good luck.
Consider this a bump so that hopefully someone with better news spots your thread.

  • How can I install Windows 7 on Macbook Pro 17' (2009 model)?

I cannot Install, neither enter on the setup screen.
When I go to Bootcamp (3.0.1) and do everything then at the end when it says to done & restart my Macbook Pro 17' Inch (2009 model (MacbookPro 5,2)).
I get into a white screen (bootscreen) then it goes into a blackscreen. I am in the Setup screen because I hear my DVD reading when I press enter.
When I restart I get back to the Windows Setup but to enter back to Mac OS X I had to reset my PRAM and NVRAM.
    Pease help ?

Let me get this - because the title misled me as to what you are asking, ie:
I cannot Install, neither enter on the setup screen.

Does the above really tell the story?
The issue isn't "How can I install Windows" but more like "I am trying to get past " an issue with Boot Camp 4.01.
Some people that already had BC 4.x installed had trouble after March's "Patch Tuesday" which was a critical number of security patches and updates. They had to rollback, uninstall an update/driver, before they could move forward.
The trouble with "had to zap pram to get back to Mac OS" is more to do with the health of the partition table and nvram, and you could try using both Windows control panel to set the default OS, and set Startup Disk control panel in Mac OS (click OFF the volume name, then back to the volume, too).
Sometimes there are problems with 3rd party NTFS for OS X that people use as well.
Boot into Lion Recovery - that should be first step if there are problems with Mac, and you don't sound like you tried boot Windows DVD (which I asked above, which can fix errors).

I updated to OS X Mavericks and now trying to run Logic Pro X on a MacBook Pro mid-2009, using an M-Audio Axiom 49 and an M-Audio Fast Track Pro... Logic keeps telling me that Mac OS X MIDI Services are not available... How do I solve this problem?

I just checked to see if the update to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 solved any of the issues outlined in my previous post, and to my dismay, nothing has changed -- all of the previous problems persist.
My iMac (8) -- it's renamed itself eight times since the recent troubleshoot with the Apple tech rep -- shows up as a shared device in Finder on my MacBook Pro, but when I click on it, I cannot establish a connection using "Connect As".  So I've attempted to connect using the menu "Go/Connect to Server...", using both (alternately) the iMac's name and IP address, to no avail.  I get a message which reads: "There was a problem connecting to the server 'Peter's iMac (8)'. This server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time.  Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
    Here's what I know:
    The server -- Peter's iMac (8) does exist;
    The server -- Peter's iMac (8) is available at this time;
    The server name -- Peter's iMac (8) -- is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
    The server IP address is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
The network connection is active when I attempt to connect.
I'm convinced the problems stem directly from the OS X Yosemite update.  None of this was ever remotely an issue in the previous OS X's -- any of them.  This is maddening!  What can be done?  Apple?? Anyone???

  • Help on installing Snow Leopard on Macbook pro mid 2009

I have macbook pro mid 2009 with 10.5.8 upgrade as latest. I am planning to install snow leopard on it. However before i do that i will upgrade the hard disk to 500gb and ram to 8 gb. As i never done reinstalling os on mac My question is
Should i install the original os first (which is leopard) and then upgrade it to snow leopard and backup my files from time machine ?
    or
Can i just install snow leopard and back up my files from time machine?
Thanks for your answers in advance

I would upgrade your system to Snow Leopard first, then backup the entire system to Time Machine. Then upgrade your hard drive install Mac OS X 10.6 then on the set up screen (Do You Already Own a Mac?" click the button that states "from a Time Machine backup".

  • Installing Windows 7 on MacBook Pro mid-2010 13" with Mavericks?

Hello, my 13" macbook pro mid-2010 is only capable of running BootCamp 4, but has Mavericks which can only run BootCamp 5. Is there any way to get around this to install Windows 7 through Bootcamp or any ways to downgrade from Mavericks to Mountain Lion without a Time Machine backup? I also know that virtual machines and Parallels are out there, but I need a separate partition for Windows for gaming.
    Thanks.

I just got off the phone with Apple Support.  They have decided to make MacBook Pro mid 2010 models non-compatible with BootCamp 5.  They have also decided to make OS Mavericks only compatible with BootCamp 5.  Therefore it will not work at all unless you downgrade your OS.  It is not possible to use BootCamp on mid 2010 MB Pros with Mavericks.

  • How do I install Windows XP on Macbook pro?

    Hi,
I've a Macbook Pro 13-inch retina display with OS X 10.9.3. I want to install Windows XP, how do I install it? What kind of virtual machine do I need to have? If I install Windows XP, how would be the functionality of Macbook. Does it run same or gets slower than before. Please, do let me know all these details.
    Regards,
    Santosh

You could run XP under a VM such as Parallels, and your RAM demands should be low as XP will, I think, only address up to 2 GB or RAM (not sure about that one - maybe 2-4GB?).
    It shouldn't be a problem.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • How can i install windows 7 on macbook pro lion  from usb?

hello am sorry to disturb you
i would like to know the above question since i have looked almost everywhere and i have received no answer
i have a macbook pro i5 with lion
i have been trying for month to install windows 7 as a secondary boot to my mac
but i haven't been able to
    things that i have done
    -i had downloaded win7 iso
    -using another computer i installed win7 on the usb { win to flash }
-i have used bootcamp assistant but apparently i need a dvd of win7 which i currently don't have
-i have installed Reffit but i always get a flashing screen when try to load windows
please i hope you can reply me back if possible
    my thoughts are
is that apple disabled the efi on lion to not be able to boot from usb flash drive
my reasoning to this is that is used to work  on leopard but not lion
again am trying to boot from usb not burn a disc
    please help att alcidio

Rule #1 that TP missed: ISO have to be burned at SLOWEST 2X burn speed to work.
There is/was a long thread but booting Windows from USB-DVD or flash is hit or miss, it may work. USB-DVDs often do not but it is possible to edit the plist to add the Mac ID string to it.
    Boot Camp Assistant -
    create a partition (done)
download Windows Support Software (drivers to install after Windows is running) (done)
Start the install and boot process - not really needed or essential
And you can use Paragon, you can use Windows 7 or later DVD and do entire install (but on a dedicated 100% Windows hard drive).
Flash drive: has to be MBR and FAT or NTFS (I think, sounds right) same for putting Apple drivers on flash card  for which there is an Apple Tech Article.

  • How do I install Windows onto my MacBook Pro?

Hi guys, newbie to the forum here
Anyway, I'm a bit of a gamer, and what annoys me most is that loads of games are Windows only. I love my Mac, and I make good use of it a lot of the time, but I want to play games! I realise it's not exactly a gaming machine, but we'll try our best with what we have.
So how do I go about this? I was thinking of getting a separate external hard drive to store all my Windows stuff on, is that a good idea? Will it make my Mac more vulnerable to viruses, even though I don't intend to go online while using Windows? Will it be a big drain on RAM? (I have 8GB DDR3).
    All advice is well recieved
    Thanks.
    Milty.

    See https://support.apple.com/kb/HT1461
You are only virus prone within your Windows environment, such viruses won't affect Mac OS X. But that should not be a concern either way for you since you said you will not be going online in Windows.

  • How do I install Windows 8 via ISO onto a modified MBP 2010 without an optical drive?

I have a modified 2010 MBP without an optical drive. I'm trying to install Windows 8 through bootcamp by creating a USB disk, but Startup Disk does not recognize this USB. How do I install my Win 8 ISO? Thanks in advance

I can kind of help you here. First you will need to find out if your computer can install Windows 8. The following computers can install Windows 8
MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Pro (15-inch and 17-inch, Mid 2010 or newer)
MacBook Pro (13-inch and 15-inch with retina display, Mid 2012 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Mini (Mid 2011 or newer)
iMac (27-inch, Mid 2010 or newer)
iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011 or newer)
Your computer MUST have Boot Camp 5 running on Mac OS X 10.8.3 Mountain Lion or later other wise Windows 8 will not work.
If you don't have one of those computers it won't allow you to install Windows 8. You can try getting a Windows 8 install disc and an external optical drive that supports Mac OS X. I reccomend the Soniq Slim DVD-RW Drive becuase it works with almost every disc including install discs. But before trying to use an install disc with an external optical drive make sure you go into boot camp assistant and remove the partition that you made for Windows. If this didn't help you go to Apple's Boot Camp FAQ for Windows 8. The link is below.

  • How do i install windows 8 on my 2012 imac that doesn't have an optical drive?

i know i could just buy an external optical drive, but i don't really want to at this point. if i have to i will.
i read that i can use another computer that does have an optical drive and move the windows 8 information to a thumbdrive, then use the thumbdrive to install the OS to my imac. i couldn't find any decient tutorials to do this, so i decided to give this a shot. any help would be greatly apprechiated!
P.S. does windows 8 even run well on a mac? i just want to play FEZ lol
    again, thanks a lot,
    -darren

Boot Camp allows you to install Windows on the hard drive of a Mac. It's more difficult and you must be very careful with the Windows installation. If you do something wrong, you may lose Mac OS X.
Some Macs support Windows 8 > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US If your computer is supported, you can install Windows 8.
You can install Windows 8 from a DVD or a USB drive. If you want to install Windows 8 from a USB drive, you have to buy Windows 8 in the Microsoft Store, which will allow you to download Windows 8 in a ISO file, that you will be able to burn to a USB drive using Boot Camp Assistant (it's in /Applications/Utilities).

  • How can I install Windows 7 on a 2011 MBP that doesn't have an optical drive?

I've looked at a bunch of guides for the MBA and the new RMBP, but they all say that there's a point in the Bootcamp setup that I should be prompted to create a bootable USB installation drive for Windows 7 from a Windows 7 ISO.  I don't see that option anywhere in the Bootcamp setup, and it makes me think that's something that only shows up for Macs that officially don't have optical drives.
I have Lion running off of an SSD in the main drive bay and I have a large HDD in the optical bay.  I want Windows installed on a partition of the HDD in the optical bay.

I think you can create Windows partitions on drives other than the startup drive.  At least, the Bootcamp setup didn't seem to prevent me from doing so.  I can get as far as creating the partition, but then Bootcamp expects a Windows CD/DVD to proceed.  I have one, but I don't have a drive.  I've tried attaching USB drives, but Bootcamp won't install from USB connected optical drives, apparantly.

  • How to clean install os x on macbook pro late 2013 using usb (offline) (without recovery direct download)

    hi,
Im trying to clean install OS X from last month using inbuild recovery partition method. Due to slow internet connection Im unable to complete the installation. I tried many times using this intallation process but it failled to complete the installation. My internet connection is steady but due to "time out" the whole installation process is skiping. So Im not able to use my brand new macbook pro late 2013 from last month beginning. Please provide an alternative solution to install os x.

For several years now, Apple has acted as if everyone on the planet has high speed Internet access. That is obviously not the case for many people, and for them installing or reinstalling any OS X version since Lion has been a problem.
I can only suggest that you take your MacBook Pro to a location that has a faster, publicly accessible Internet connection and download it there. An Apple Store would be ideal, but if that is not an option, a public library may offer high speed Internet, as do many hotels, coffee shops, or similar locations where you may have to pay a small fee.
When the download completes, you can copy the Install OS X Mavericks icon to another folder or an external storage device such as a flash drive, where it will remain available to use again, as often as you wish. Do that before proceeding with the Mavericks upgrade, otherwise the installer will erase the file.
The installer icon resembles the following
    (Launchpad)
The following will also appear in /Applications:
Copy that to another location, such as Documents, by holding an option key while you drag it there.
Of course, every time Apple releases an OS X update you will need to download another, rather large file.

  • How do I install Windows on my Macbook pro?

Is it a program that I need to buy or it's only a download? I Need the windows version on my Macbook to work on a program.

    You're welcome. Enjoy!
At the moment Windows 8.1 is unsupported in Bootcamp. There is no way to know when it will be supported.
Another thing to bear in mind is that on late model Macs 32 bit versions of Windows are not supported, so if you're buying Windows make sure you get a 64 bit version.

  • Just installed new HD on MacBook Pro mid 2009, screen is blank, what do I do to restore. I have restore discs that came with it originally, I believe they are SL

Don't know what to do to restore
    Please help

Start the SL installation process.  When you see on the display an menu bar on top, click on UTILITIES.  From the drop down menu select Disk Utility.  Choose Disk Utility>Erase and format the new internal HDD to Mac OS Extended (journaled).  The continue the OSX installation.
    Ciao.
After the OSX is installed, update SL to 10,68 via Software Update.  Then you may reinstall Mavericks.
