How do i know if i am using leopard or snow leopard?

This might sound like a really stupid question, but i am completely new to mac's. so i need a little help. i have the snow leopard disc, but it is still sealed and just wanted to know if there is a quick way to check if i am running on snow leopard or just leopard before i install the disc and wipe the whole thing. thank you so much for your time and i hope to hear soon. amny thanks in advance, Ric.

If you click on the Blue apple icon in the upper left main menu bar
and then in the drop-down column beneath that, see the click-on
"About this Mac" and choose that, you should see a Dialog Box
open, and within it the version of the OS X, (numbers) and if you
click directly on the version info in that box, other stuff will appear.
+If the computer is newer than August 2009, it may have shipped+
+with Snow Leopard 10.6, or newer. Leopard 10.5.8 has been+
+out of production for going on a few years now. It's easy to check.+
In my iMac G4, running 10.4.11, with the 'About this Mac' box, it
says in big text, Mac OS X with Version 10.4.11 beneath, and if
I click on the words Version 10.4.11, the Build version appears,
and also, if I continue and click once again, the Serial number.
It is similar in Leopard 10.5.8, & in Snow Leopard 10.6.x.
However the GUI appearance is different in these systems.
And if you proceed and click on the button, More Info... the
System Profiler app will launch and you can read about both
hardware & software features of the computer's configuration.
If the computer shipped with OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, you
should know; that info would be in the products documents.
And, if it does have OS X 10.6 inside it already, and you have
a Retail Snow Leopard 10.6 install DVD, it won't work with a
computer which shipped with 10.6 Snow Leopard already in it.
Hopefully this helps. Maybe as clear as mud...
Good luck & happy computing!

  • How do i know if my query using  SORT_AREA_SIZE   or temporary tablespace ?

    Good Morning  Everyone !
    My DB version is 10.2.0.1
    I have large table  exactly 3 million records.
    SQL> select count(*) from tab1;
    COUNT(*)
       300000
    SQL> select * from tab1 order by no DESC;
    sorting  ... in process
    300000 rows selected.
    in Terminal 2 : I tried to find  sorting details -   ( No rows  selected - why ? )
    SQL> select USERNAME , USER , TABLESPACE , SQL_ID from v$tempseg_usage  ;
    no rows selected
    SQL> /
    no rows selected
    When i google i have seen this ;
    If  Oracle cannot do the sort in memory  (SORT_AREA_SIZE initialisation parameter), space will be allocated in a temporary tablespace for doing the sort operation.
    REF_LINK : TEMPORARY Tablespaces and TEMPFILES | Oracle FAQ
    MY DOUBT QUESTION :   How do i know if my query using  SORT_AREA_SIZE   or temporary tablespace ?
    Thanks in advance.

    @ JohnWatson
    I have seen some articles from ORA - FAQ. Good.
    SQL> select USERNAME , USER , TABLESPACE , SQL_ID from v$tempseg_usage;
    USERNAME                       USER   TABLESPACE                      SQL_ID
       SCOTT                               SYS          TEMP                            fh9vqgyd6m0d1
    PGA management means that sorting only 300000 rows  may well occur in memory
                Is this (3 million rows) -  standard  value for 10g version ?
    Thanks JohnWatson

  • How do you know what classes to use ?

    Hello,
    This may sound daft - but how do you know what classes to use to do a particular task ? For example to do password-related stuff - how would I know which classes are all relevant to that ? Am I supposed to buy a book on the classes as the API documentation doesn't really tell you WHEN to use which classes.

    If you're using JSP, then your password field is likely going to be implemented in HTML. So that's nothing to do with Java. (And you can't use a JPassword field in a JSP page.) But when that field comes back to your server, you may be using Java to authenticate it. Even there, the question is not yet what Java method you are going to use, but what methodology. You could have a database to authenticate against, or an LDAP directory. Or you could have the web server use its built-in authentication, which means you don't have to do any Java coding at all. And there are other ways.
    So the question before yours is, how do you know what methodology to use? Again, that comes down to experience.

  • How can I know which file is using by the self-service workflow?

    Dear all:
    In my directory, there are two HRSSA.wft and How can I know which source is using by the workflow of the self-service ?
    my environment is oracle 11.5.9 | self-service 4.1 | workflow builder 2.6
    Thanks
    regards
    Terry

    One way would be to download the HRSSA workflow to a wft file (using the WFLOAD utility - see MOS Doc 578248.1), then comparing this downloaded wft file with the two files you have (using a utility such as diff in Unix). The comparison that reports no differences will identify the wft that was uploaded into the database.

    How will you know if someone is using video chat? Does the green camera indicator turns red?

    Hi,
    You Buddy List will show two types of AV icons.
    "Single" type which indicates the person can only do 1-1 Chats.
    "Stacked" icons indicating they can do Multi-way chats.
    Example pic
    If they appear feint or "greyed out",  so to speak, then they are Busy to someone else.
    (if they are chatting with you they will appear dark again once connected)

  • How do I know if an app uses password encryption?

    Hi,
    With all the apps in the App Store, how do I know what kind of security they use?  Will it be in the T's and C's before accepting the app?  I do try to read those, but I've missed this.  Here's the reason for my question.
    A few months ago I downloaded an App called ATT Call International which offered a lower rate for international calls.  I used it a few times, it bills to a credit card.  This morning I tried to use it and I didn't remember my password.  I was emailed a new password which I copied and pasted into the browser but it still wouldn't let me in.  I called the support number for the ATT app and the agent asked me what I wanted my new password to be.  That was odd, but I made up a temp password to work with her and we got me signed on.  I immediately went in to change my password but the app wouldn't let me.
    I called back, got the same woman who told me that even if I do change my password, it's not encrypted so she can see it.
    Really?  And this is an ATT app?  She tells me that this is an ATT app but it's supported by a third party.
    So, I asked her to delete my account but I'm feeling VERY EXPOSED to think that in some database somewhere they have my credit card information and with an unencrypted password on my account. There is no delete option for me to delete it myself.
    What questions do I need to ask before I download?

    Eddie,
    To see what apps are "running" in the background, double click the HOME button (it's the round one at the bottom of the phone's front... not being sarcastic here, had to look at the manual myself just to be sure!). To me it's the coolest looking if done from one of the icon (desktop?) pages, as the dock will slide up and get grayed out, but i've done it from within open apps, it works but not nearly as neat looking to me! Anyhow, if you have a bunch open, you'll have to scroll them sideways to see all of them, plus there are ipod controls and a screen lock all the way to the left. To actually close out an app, press and hold one of them until they start shaking, like when you want to delete an app from your phone, the difference is there will be a "-" instead of an "x" on the icon and when you touch the icon it will disappear and stop "running".
    I put "running" in quotes, because from what i've read, some of the apps aren't really running, iOS4 has actually saved it's place in the app that you left off, but i'm pretty sure the gps type apps ARE working, using up precious memory and battery life.

  • HT201209 how do i know if my child used their itunes gift cards

    How do I know if my child actually USED their itunes gift cards or if they just scratched off the strip and put it aside ?

    Thank you again for all of your help!! I really appreciate it!
    I think I am following -- I was able to upload to my iPhoto and all photos and videos are there that is a plus! I tried to create an Event in my iPhoto and put all of my photos in that event but for some reason, now my iTunes it not recognizing that Event in my iPhoto. It is not allowing me to import just that event at the moment but I may be doing something wrong. At least all of my pics and vids are in iPhoto so that is a plus and I know they are at least saved somewhere. Just for some reason, my iTunes it not locating the event that I created with only those photos.
    Thank you for letting me know about my contacts! How do I know if I have the contacts app?
    Also, I had no clue that my iCloud could be backed up via cellular data! However, is this a new feature with the most updated iOS?? Unforutnatly I am like 2 iOS updates behind because I don't have enough storage on my phone. I still get the notification that my phone needs to be plugged in and connected to wifi in order to back up to the cloud :-(
    How can I sync using USB? Right now when i click on the info tab for my iPhone in my iTunes this is the answer that I get -- I am a little unclear as to what it means.
    Sync Contacts:
    Your contacts are being synced with you iPhone over the air from iCloud. Over-the-air sync settings can be changed on you iPhone

  • Verizon iPad 3 gen: How do I know when I am using 4G or WiFi?

    I purchased the pre-paid Verizon data plan for my new iPad WiFi/4G.  When the cellular LTE service and WiFi are enabled, the iPad shows Verizon LTE and the WiFi signal.  How do I know which one is being used?  Does the iPad default to WiFi when it is enabled? Do I need to turn off cellular data service when I am on a WiFi to avoid being charged for cellular data?

    I was in an area where the iPad is set to recognize the wifi network and log into it automatically, which is does (at least when cellular data is turned off).  I didn't realize cellular data was turned on, so I didn't check, but as soon as it told me that it had used up all of the cellular data, I checked and it had indeed automatically connected to the wifi network like it was supposed to do.  The problem is that the iPad is prioritizing cellular data ahead of recognized and available wifi networks.  I haven't found anything in any of the forums discussing how to change that, and there appears to be no way to determine which is being used without constantly checking your cellular usage (looking to see how much of your plan has been used and how much is left).  That data is not updated in real time and could take up to 72 hours to post, so even that doesn't tell you that the iPad is using cellular at any given moment instead of wifi.  Consequently, it's worth warning other unsuspecting iPad users that they need to turn cellular data off when not in use unless and until they determine that their iPads are not experiencing what at least several hundred of us are experiencing now.

  • After RAC installation how will i know that DHCP was used ?

    Once the RAC database is installed .
    how a  new Admin will know that DHCP was used during installation ot not used ?

    DHCP for the database server? Normally one wouldn't use DHCP for a server unless the registration is leased so that the IP address doesn't change. In that case, does it matter if DHCP is used or not? The best way for me to know if the server is *currently* using DHCP is to check the NIC config on the server. But I know of now way to know if the server was using DHCP when RAC was installed.

  • How can I know a port being used or not

    Hello, I have a trouble, I don't know how to realize whether a port has been used or not.
    For example, I have some command:
    ServerSocket server1 = new ServerSocket(2001);
    ServerSocket server2 = new ServerSocket(2002);
    ServerSocket server3 = new ServerSocket(2003);
    ServerSocket server4 = new ServerSocket(2004);
    I wonder how I can realize the fact that server1, server1, server3 or server4 is avalable?
    Please help me. Thank you.

    Maybe you misunderstood my question. Not in the slightest. I answered the question you asked.
    The fact is that you asked the wrong question. You asked about ports in use. You're now asking how to know if a Socket is active. That's a different question. A port is different from a socket, and they're both different from a connection.
    To answer that new question, Java provides Socket.isClosed(), Socket.isConnected(), etc.
    But note that all these APIs can do, in any language, is tell you what you have personally done with that Socket instance, in the current application. So actually these APIs are formally redundant: all they do is just maintain a few booleans recording what methods have been called. What they don't do, and can't do, in any language, is tell you about the state of the connection. Only reading or writing can do that.

  • How Respond() function knows what NID to use

    Hi, I need to respond a notification from my application, I read a lot of message about it, but I can't see how to get the notification ID (NID) to call respond() function, I saw the following example about it:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE "RESPOND"
    ( itemtype in varchar2,
    itemkey in varchar2,
    response in varchar2,
    responder in varchar2) is
    x_sqlcode NUMBER;
    x_sqlerrm char(512);
    nid NUMBER;
    begin
    select B.notification_id into nid
    from owf_mgr.WF_ITEM_ACTIVITY_STATUSES_V A,
    owf_mgr.WF_NOTIFICATIONS_VIEW B
    where A.item_type = itemtype
    and A.item_key = itemkey
    and A.ACTIVITY_STATUS_CODE = 'NOTIFIED'
    and A.NOTIFICATION_ID = B.GROUP_ID
    and B.RECIPIENT_ROLE = responder;
    dbms_output.put_line('NID='||nid || ' RESPONSE='||response );
    owf_mgr.wf_notification.setAttrText(nid, 'RESULT', response);
    owf_mgr.wf_notification.respond(nid,null,responder);
    EXCEPTION
    When others then
    x_sqlcode := sqlcode;
    x_sqlerrm := sqlerrm;
    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE ('Error #: ' || x_sqlcode);
    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE (SUBSTR(1,70,x_sqlerrm));
    end RESPOND;
    but whats happend when the SELECT result is 2 nid's, because this workflow is waiting for 2 different notifications (from 2 different activities) at the same time ...
    How I know what NID use?
    how can I to distinguish both NID's?

    Typically you want to replicate in your code what SAP is doing in theirs... I find the easiest way to achieve this is to turn on debugging (/h) and run the standard SAP transaction, and set Breakpoint > At Statement > Authority-Check and see what gets triggered... then you can be pretty sure you are checking the same objects, fields, and values.
