How do I know if I can get fibre?

Hello,
I live in a remote area and am connected to the Warmingham exchange which I understand has recently (in September having been delayed a few times) been upgraded to fibre. The online checker suggests that there is fibre in my area but that they can't tell whether I can get it.
I don't really understand the technology but I believe both the exchange and the cabinet need to be upgraded. I think I'm connected to cabinet 1 but I don't know where that is, or whether it has been upgraded, or if it has whether I can therefore get fibre as I'm some way from the exchange.
I've been paying c. £50/month (including line rental) for fairly slow connectivity (<2MB/s) for nearly ten years so am very keen to understand if I can now upgrade.
I can't seem to get a definitive answer from anyone as to whether I can get fibre now, and if not, when (if ever) will I be able to.
Can anyone suggest how I can find out for sure please? Many thanks.

If you use this checker it will tell what cabinet you are on and what services it can receive.

If it does not show a cabinet number it will be because you are on an Exchange Only line which will mean you can not get Infinity because you are not connected to a cabinet, instead you are connected directly to the exchange.

  • How do I know if I can get rid of a file I don't recognize?

My macbook got quiet full & I just installed "Disk Inventory X" which shows me where is my memory going to. I discovered many memory consuming files which I can't recognize like: sleepimage which takes 2 GB & is located in private/var/vm/textedit
How can I know if I am allowed to get rid of that file, If it's necessary for my computer etc? I have many more enormous files like this one & afraid to throw them... Thanks for any advise

When you put your computer to sleep the contents of your RAM are written to the sleepimage file. This way, if there is a power failure or your machine shuts down unexpectedly in some other way, the data you had in RAM when you put the machine to sleep won't be lost.
You can disable this process through Terminal (see this topic), but simply deleting the file won't save the hard drive space because the file will be recreated the next time you log in or restart.

i deleted my albums from Facebook while cleaning my iPhoto archive.. Does anyone know if i can get them back and how? thanks!

    while cleaning my iPhoto archive
What do you mean by that?  Do you mean you deleted photos or albums from your iPhoto Library?
You best solution is to use Time Machine to restore your library from just before you "cleaned your iPhoto archive".

apple wont give me a new phone cause I broke the screen and I replaced it my self.
Correct. When you did that, you voided all warranty/support, & forfeited the right to an out of warranty replacement.
There was nothing wrong with the screen I bought,
And, exactly, how do you know that? Since Apple DOES NOT sell iPhone parts, there is no official source for genuine parts. Thus, many on the market are counterfeit & produce nothing but problems.
    Good luck.

  • I have old Macintosh LC that recently passed on,  anyone know where I can get this repaired or have the data transferred into something else?

I have an old Macintosh LC that recently went down.  I am located in the Portsmouth, NH area.
Anyone know where I can get this repaired or have the data transferred??

How much $$ do you care to spend to transfer the data on the LC's 40 or 80 MB hard drive?  The original LC is now 21 years-old and has little if any market value (I know - I have an LC I and an LC III), so professional repair will easily exceed that.  It's considered "obsolete" by Apple's authorized repair shops, so parts are not available.  Was it starting up normally before it stopped working, and if so, were the date & time always correct after it had been disconnected from an electrical outlet?  If not and if startups have been hit or miss for a while, your LC undoubtedly needs a new PRAM battery installed.  It's a 3.6-volt ½AA lithium battery and is installed in a black plastic holder w/retainer cover clipped over it on the LC's motherboard.  The battery can be purchased at battery specialty retailers for about $8 or less, as well as from a number of online merchants.  If you don't mind paying 2-3 times the value of the battery, Radio Shack carries it.  If you need directions for installing the battery, post back.  It's the least expensive thing to try and a new battery has brought many a dead Mac back from the dead.  As for the internal hard drive, it could be removed and installed in a slightly newer, pre-G3 Power Mac having an internal SCSI bus.  If there are any thrift stores in your area, you might find a suitable Mac for this purpose.  This would involve removal of the hard drive from the LC and installation in the newer Mac, with a slight change in the LC's SCSI address jumper placement.  Once installed in the newer Mac, the files could be copied.  If this is more challenging than you planned on, you might check your area for a Mac User Group, where you might be able to take your LC and have someone transfer the files for you.  After the files have been transferred to another medium, you may have problems trying to open them on a newer Mac running a newer OS version than the LC's (System 7.0, 7.1, 7.5.x, or 7.6), if the programs aren't compatible.

  • Does anyone know where I can get replacement case screws?

I've got a 12-inch PowerBook 867MHz that I've had for 3.5 years, so there's no more AppleCare on it.
My Hard Drive just died on it, and in the process of getting into the case to replace the drive, I discovered that the screw under the F11/F12 key was seized and ended up stripping the head of it while I was trying to remove it.
So, I've got two problems now:
    1. Does anyone have any ideas of how to remove the screw?
    2. Does anyone know where/how to get replacement screws for a 12-inch PowerBook?
    Thanks!

I have a HP Envy dv-7225dx silver laptop. Recently one of the screws came loose somehow and I did not notice this until it came loose. Now I have lost the screw and part of my laptop is literally coming apart when I open my laptop. as a result I have to use a bit of force to put it back.
I have some screws but none that are small enough.
Does anyone know where I can get a couple replacement screws (in case this happens again) and how much it would be?
From what I know, the screw is narrow/thin, small and black. Also if anyone knows the measurement of the screw that would be great!
    Hi,
I suggest to buy laptop screws from ebay. There are plenty of them for cheap.

  • I Need to know where i can get my iPod repair.

i Need to know where i can get my iPod repair , Because it doesn't show the display it just has a white screen.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    Hi Pharao,
just made quick 'n dirty a website, which will (hopefully...) explain and show, how to modify an iDVD theme to your needs..
in result, the videoDVD's menu will look like this:

I currently run the Design and Web Premium CS6 on a first generation MacBook Air and want to buy a new MacBook Pro. How do I know whether I can install my Adobe programs onto the new computer? Because I know there is some kind of limit.
Also, I had to install the software twice on my same computer before because I had to reboot the computer. I don't know if this affects the limit.

You are allowed to have two activated installations so there should not be a problem having working installations on the two machines.  If by chance you have somehow tied up two activations for the one machine you can have Adobe support help resolve that thru chat.

  • I have OS 10.6.8, how do I update so I can get PS CC?

I have OS 10.6.8, how do I update so I can get PS CC?  I need at least 10.7....I'm lost as to what I need to do.
    Thank you

Open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

  • How do I know if I can run a game?

Hi, I know a Mac isn't ideal for gaming. I dont want answers back saying im an idiot for buying a mac for gaming, because that isnt the case. I just want to know what I am compatible of running though. I know there is the Can I Run it site, but I am not sure if that is always reliable.  ALSO I WILL BE RUNNING WINDOWS 8 VIA BOOTCAMP.
So, by looking at my cpu and gpu, and looking at the requirements for a game, how do i know if i can run it? I would appreciate it if you can tell me if this example will work, but how does the average person know if it will work, by comparing the specs?
    My specs:
    MacBook Pro (Mid-2012)
    RAM: 8GB
CPU:2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz) with 6MB L3 cache
    GPU:Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB & NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 512 MB
    Here is the game:
    Batman Arkham Origins (recommended settings)
    RAM: 4GB
    CPU: Core i5-750 Quad 2.66GHz
    GPU:GeForce GTX 560
Also, if I meet the minimum requirements for the gpu, but far exceed with the cpu and ram, what does that mean?
And... If one of my graphics cards is 1024MB, does that mean I can run games that require that much memory on the gpu? Even though i know the geforce I have is better.
I am just very confused, someone please clarify, I would really appreciate it.

In what country? Virgin is a supported GSM carrier in Canada. In the US, they are a CDMA carrier. In the UK, they are unsupported. They may have Nano-SIMs there, but you'll have to ask them.

I agree with Grant. But to answer your question, that would be Word 2008. A quick search turns it up on sale at Amazon. You'll need to find it somewhere other than Microsoft itself, since MS stopped selling it when they released Word 2011.
