How do I make a font in a Macbook Pro

I want to make a font from scratch. I have read that there are two different ways to make a font. One is to scan it in and use and editor and save as a font, which is a very vague answer. What software do you use? The other was mention via a windows sight using an editor within the operating system. Any suggestions on how to do this?
For reference, I am not interested in uploading to a sight that would take my template and convert it. I want to know how I can do this myself on the mac.

Option-shft-K will get you the Apple logo in many, but not all, fonts.
To find a font with a heart glyph use Character Viewer.

Basic Backup
For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components:
1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is

     requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
     drive being backed up.

Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. I just purchased a new 13" Macbook Pro and there are no restore disks. How can I make some?

Easy way is to take an external HD and make a bootable CLONE.
1. grab carbon copy cloner or (my fave) superDuper CLONE app.
2. attach target clone drive via USB in an enclosure or HD dock. Firstly format the target (external new) HD in disk utility in “Mac OS extended journaled”
3. clone internal HD to target HD (external) [takes about 40 mins depending on size]
4. Boot ONCE from external (go to sys. preference to boot from external) to TEST the new Clone
if your HD crashes, you can be up and running in SECONDS.
This is the option the pros use for quick restore from a serious crash.
**Remember of course, youll need otherwise saves of your data that come AFTER the clone.
Either that or regularly make a CLONE.
Another option is time machine, but it cannot be booted from.

My Macbook Pro has now defaulted to my Apple TV as its source of audio while on the same network. If I attempt to switch it to internal speakers by clicking option and the volume button, it will not stay changed to internal speakers. My issue is that the writing is so small and I can't see very well as it is, I end up 2 inches away from my screen and I can't work out how to change it. There doesn't seem to be a universal "just make text bigger" option on my mac and it's really annoying me now that I use it more often for emails and such. I can make things within my web-browser bigger by using shift, command + but that doesn't work in emails.
I know you go to font and then select, but when I select, it opens a dialog box with no save or okay button or anything, so when I select my new font, it doesn't stay selected when I shut the dialog box it's still the default one.... how am I supposed to make it change?????

If the image is too large, reduce the pixel dimensions to a more reasonable size.
If it's due to thin horizontal lines, deinterlace the image, or slightly blur the lines in Photoshop.
If it's due to areas of high contrrast, reduce the contrast of those areas in Photoshop.
In FCP you can also try applying the Flicker filter to the image in the Timeline and/or a Gaussian blur filter with a setting of around 0.2 or 0.3
