How do I make Adobe Reader my default PDF reader ?

Hi im trying to open PDF  a file from a website , but unable as it has to be adobe viewer how can I make adobe my default reader ?
Thanks Davie

Davie,
My question would be why would you want to have Acrobat as the default view? Preview comes with OS X and opens PDF documents just fine. However if you must then select any pdf on the computer then type Command I (I as in Ivan) to get the information window on the document. Next chose Adobe View under Open With and click Change All.

What is your current default?  If Adobe Acrobat (X or XI), you can set it in your preferences.
If it's another program, reinstalling or repairing Adobe Reader will set it to the default program.

Very helpful, slight change, after right clicking PDF causing list of possible programs, go to    Open With, then when the list comes up do not click on desired program, scan down to the bottom of pop up menu to Choose program, right click that causing another menu "Open with" window, then selectr Adobe from the list and also click the box to the left of "Always use this selected program to open this kind of file", and then click OK.
These variations may be due to different versions of Windows - I have XP SP3.  I consider that ~graffiti deserves 10 points for his answer!!!  I worked for teo days trying to fix thi so I can doemload legal files from PACER without having to pay their fees for my case files.

How can I make Adobe Reader 9 open for incoming PDFs instead of Acrobat 5.0?

    Hi,
Assuming that you have Reader 9.3.4 already installed on your machine, you can try the following to make Reader 9.3.4 as the default PDF opening application:
    1. Right click on any PDF on your system and click on the "Open With" Option in the context menu that appears. In case you get another submenu, click on Chose Program in that menu. (In case you do not see any "Open With" option, then hold down the Shift key and right click on the file)
    2. Click on Browse button in the dialog that appears, and select Reader 9. Make sure that you select the checkbox for "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file"
    3. Click on OK.
This will make Adobe Reader 9 as the default viewer for all PDFs on your system.

  • How do I make Adobe Reader my default PDF app.?

Hey everybody. I haven't been around lately. Hope all are well!
I'm trying to figure out how to make Adobe the default PDF viewer instead of Preview.
    Any ideas?
I posted this in the Panther room, but figured I'd get a quicker response here!
    Al

    Thanks Allan.
Good to see the usual gang is still here. Sorry for being such a stranger. I'll try and stick my head in a little more often.
I'm still using my old beige with all the ease in the world. It's like nothing ever goes wrong anymore. I did have a little directory clutter not long ago that even gave Disk Warrior a hard time, but I prevailed in the end! This machine is so awesome.
I never did make it out west. Right as I was ready to do it, gas went to $3.00 a gal. That killed that idea. Maybe sometime soon.
    Take care, Al

  • How do I make Adobe Reader NOT my default program for reading pdf files?

I installed Adobe Reader and made it my default program for reading pdf files.  I'd like to undo that and go back to "preview" as my default.

  • How do I make Adobe Reader keep my toolbar settings?

Every time I double-click a PDF file to open it the toolbar is reset to display the default icons.  Any tools I have previously added are not kept.

    Hi Cleatus,
I replicated the same issue at my end. I added few tools to my toolbar & then switched between different sample pdf's, however all the tools were still present there.
I will recommend you to repair your Adobe Reader.
Launch Adobe Reader click on Help -> Repair Adobe Reader
    This might resolve your issue.
Let me know if the issue persist.

  • How do I make Adobe Reader print settings document-specific?

This question concerns Adobe Reader XI, v. 11.0.07 on Windows 7.  This is a new environment for me.
If I open 2 pdf documents and change the print settings on one of them (say from Portrait to Landscape), the other document's print settings also change to Landscape.  This didn't happen with the previous Adobe Readers I have used.  How do I change the print settings for each document so that they don't affect the other documents?
    Uday Reddy

Acrobat retains (most) print settings while the program is open, and many though a close.
Scaling, Print as Image,  Print to File, Print color as black, Comments & Forms all are retained until changed.
Printer Features (anything set through the Properties tab), all are retained until the program is closed.
Not retained in any case is Page range & copies.

  • How do you make Adobe Reader 9.3 truly Distributable?

I have a set of electronic minutes in PDF format with hyperlinks between files, bookmarks and other nice navigational features.  I need to distribute these minutes on CD to my customer with a distributable version of Adobe Reader 9.3 so that they can view the files.  We use an autorun file that runs Reader off the CD and opens the main file.  I have downloaded Adobe Reader 9.3 from the "Distributable Version" (for CDs) link provided by Adobe when I requested a license to distribute Adobe Reader on my CDs.  My customer is not connected to the internet and has to jump through all sorts of hoops to install Adobe Reader on their PCs.
My problem is that our PDF files on the CD do not navigate correctly between the different files we have while running the Adobe Reader installed on the CD.  If we run the files in Adobe Acrobat Professional 9.0 installed directly on the PC, they work beautifully.  If we run the files using Adobe Reader 9.2 or 9.3 installed directly on the PC, they work beautifully.  We have found that the Reader running off the CD will not correctly navigate these same files, unless Reader 9.2 or higher is actually installed on the PC running the CD.  This is a problem!  I'm guessing there are files installed elsewhere that are not contained on the CD version and thus the CD version of the Reader does not run correctly.
Is there a way to force ALL the files required by Adobe Reader 9.3 to install into the same folder so that ALL the files can then be loaded onto a CD for distribution with our PDF files?
Please note:  We have been providing CDs with Adobe Acrobat on them to run our Minutes automatically for several years now.  So this used to work very well.  The newest distributable version of Adobe Reader is not Behaving like the older versions and appears to require some number of files not contained on the CD.

What problems are you encountering when you send it to the trash?

  • How do I make Adobe Reader default pdf viewer?

When I click on a pdf link, Firefox gives an error that it can't find PDF Converter Professional 7.0.
I've ensured Options|Applications links "Adobe Acrobat Document" to "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Forefox)", I've deleted the PDF Converter Professional plug-in -- but makes no difference.

This might be due to obsolete registry keys left. Also did you remove PDF Converter Professional from your COMPUTER.

trying to send an email unfortunatly my file size can only be 25MB and the file I have is 195MB, no I cant just delete the pictures on the file, mainly because I dont know how to.... please help me.

Not possible with Reader. As suggested, look for a better way to transfer your files, or use the trial version of Acrobat to optimize the PDF.

  • Making Adobe as the default PDf reader

How can I make Adobe as a default pdf reader for windows phone 8?
Where does the Adobe reader store local files in wp8? Can I know its path in windows phone 8?

Maybe starting Acrobat 9 (NOT Distiller 9: this is an extra component
of Acrobat, and not involved in opening PDFs) will help. But overall,
mixing releases and Acrobat/Reader on the same computer isn't
recommended for this sort of reason.

Open Acrobat manually and go to Edit - Preferences - General. Click the "Select Default PDF Handler" button and then select Acrobat from the list and click on OK. The next time you open a PDF it will be opened in Acrobat automatically.
