How do i migrate info from apple 2.26 13″ (Mid-2009) to new macbook pro 13

What is best way to migrate all info from apple 2.26 13″ (Mid-2009) to new 2.3 13" macbook pro Core i5?

It seems the best way is to use the "Set Up Assistant" on the first initial boot of your new machine with a  Firewire connection. It will prompt you for transfering from your old Mac.
I've never had an issue with this method.

  • How do I transfer info. from my old Imac G3 hard drive to the macbook pro?

    Hello,
My imac g3 died last year and I finally upgraded to the macbook pro. Well, the G3 fizzed out on me and no longer turns on so I finally pulled the hard drive out. Now the next problem: can i access the information on this hard drive on my current computer? I had some form of OS X on it but that's about all I remember. If anybody has any helpful ideas that would be awesome.
    Thanks in advance,

Putting the drive into another machine and then booting it as a targetted disk is fine - it will just appear like an external drive on your machine. I think bustardvan's confusing this with a clone or migration.
Your best and simplest solution is to go for an external enclosure - you put the drive in it and then it appears as an external drive on your machine.
    OR
    You could consider this
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/U2NVSPATARH/
which should connect to the drive and allow you to see it on your new desktop - but as I'm not super familiar with it give the chaps at OWC a call and make sure it will be fine. Looks like it will be and you could probably easily sell it later - I'm saying that on the assumption your old drive is pretty small and you won't want to carry on using it as an external drive long-term. If large get an enclosure and keep it as an external drive.
    Best of luck.
PS - Sorry if that's a bit garbled. I'd suggest an enclosure if the drive is going to be kept long term, otherwise the adapter if all you want to do is get the data from it.

At the Apple WWDC 2012 when they announced the new MacBook Pro, the used something to rotate it. What was it?

    Hello Sam,
strangely enough, it went away by itself, and until now, it did not come back. I also believe it must be soms sort of graphic card connection failure or something like that, it`s very strange though. I also did let it know to the apple store, and explained it, and they were willing to repair it, but now everything is ok, so it has no meaning to go to the apple store, maybe for a checkup, that would be interesting maybe.
So, I would suggest to keep on using your computer for a couple of days, and shut it down and restart it as often as possible. And when it has not dissapeared after 3 or 4 days, then it`s good I think to go to the apple store.
If you can post here how it goes or how it went, would be nice, and if there is anything more I can help you with, let me know, kindly, Steven

  • Can I bring files from a NTFS formatted external hard drive (from Windows XP 32 bit desktop) to my new macbook pro retina?

Can I bring files from a NTFS formatted external hard drive (from Windows XP 32 bit desktop) to my new macbook pro retina?

What are these files you are trying to copy over?
If they are program specific and there is no program on a Mac to read them then you'll have to find either a Mac version of that program or one that does the same thing and can read those files.
The file extension should not change just because you connect a NTFS formatted drive to a Mac computer. A Word Document is still a .doc/.docx ad the same for all other office type programs. Music files with an extension of .MP3, or whatever, should read the same on both system. Same goes for all other files like images with a .JPG extension.
    Yes I would network them.
I would not use Migration Assistant. There is nothing on your Windows PC that can be used on the Mac other than your personal data files. No programs or settings can be carried over from Windows to OS X.

Also, when I view the files from the external hard drive, they show up as .nbz and are not recognized by any program on the Mac. Should I just abandon the hard drive option and start sharing files through the LAN approach?

  • I need help migrating my applications from my old G5 power mac to my new macbook pro

Im struggling migrating my applications from my G5 power mac to my new macbook pro. My G5 runs on OS X 10.5.8 and when using the traditional tool of Migration assistant my new macbook urges me to update my G5 which it obviously it can't due to its original licensing agreements. I have no codes for my software as it came on the pc: I need , Logic pro 9, the complete adobe CS4 package and final cut pro . How can i put this on my new mac ??

So you never really owned the software to begin with then. Software is licensed and has to be transferred and when you bought your Mac (PC) they really did not.

As for a temporary solution, you can run 10.6.8 as a VM under later versions of Mac OS X like Mavericks so you can have use of Rosetta and it runs the PowerPC code.
Your new Intel Mac can run Windows natively also, can dual boot both Mac and Windows, if that is of any use, for some it is.
Right now you are not in the MacBook Pro forum! :-) This is Mac Pro sans "Book" and is not a laptop at all, but a 'trash can' or tower.

  • FileVaulted data from Powerbook [10.3.x] disk to a new MacBook Pro [10.5.x]

    Hi!
My powerbook was damaged & the insurers have returned my hard drive and are supplying me with a new MacBook Pro.
The data on the Hard drive is encrypted with FileVault from 10.3.someting.....
What's the best way to proceed, with regards to getting the few files off of there I need?
I've seen some articals regarding linking the drive via Firewire and ensuring there are no User Accounts on the new machine & using the import facility on 10.5...... However, I am unsure whether the primary [admin account ] is comsidered to be a user or not - so how do I do that?
    Or
Could I just spark up the new MacBook from the old drive & switch off the FileVault? Will the Macbook be happy booting from an external from a Powerbook? I don't have a Firewire enclosure, but do have an USB enclosure.... will that matter other than speed?
If I do boot from the external, should I do that BEFORE my first use of the new machine or after?
    Thank you
    Rob
ps Sorry if not asked in quite the right place - unsure if machine or OS question!

Hmmm! Iknow you shouldn't be the first reply to your own postings.... but:-
I read somewere that it would have to be Firewire as the USB ports abecome active after the system starts to boot where as the Firewire are active frm the Firmware - can someone confirm that on please?
Would I be able to boot up an old Clamshell iBook from a Powerbook disk? I have a Clamshell somewhere - I could pop the disk in there maybe?
Or maybe an iMac... If I can find a Firewire enclosure.... Was hoping to do it from USB as I have 1 of those external 'connect all disk adapters' on USB thingys....
I'l see if a friendly local repairer has a carcase I can pop the drive in to just decrypy the FileVault........ But prefer to do it myself!

  • Should Apple transfer my dead G5 to my new MacBook Pro?

My G5 died but when I took it into the genius bar, they told me that the hard drive was okay and the tech said that if I got a new Mac he would transfer the old HD to the new computer.  However when I went in and purchased the new MacBook Pro, the sales guy said that I would have to have an operating computer for them to do the transfer.
To my mind this is the opposite of the service I usually get from Apple.  Does anyone know what Apple policy is about this?  Should I ask to see the manager?  Suggestions?

Yes.  Also, ask the manager about Apple's policy.

  • How do i move EVERYTHING from iTunes on my home computer to my new macbook?

I want to move the entire library, apps, and everything so that i can just sync my iphone to my new macbook and have everything stay the same. i need this ability because i am moving away to college.

iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.

I have both an iMac 2006 and a new 2011 MacBook Pro. I would like to use the old iMac as a second, prhaps third, monitor. How do I tturn my perfectly good iMac into a regular monitor?

    ppleas help.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If your iMac has got Mini-DVI, you have a 17, 20 or 24-inch iMac that doesn't support Target Display. Late 2009 and Mid 2010 27-inch iMacs, and iMacs with Thunderbolt can be used as external displays. Read > http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11302?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
If your old iMac doesn't support Target Display mode, you can use ScreenRecycler to use your old iMac as an extended display for the new iMac. The only thing you need is that both Macs are connected to the same network

  • How do I get my old recorded songs to work on a brand new macbook pro?!

My old mac was with snow leopard. Computer says I need to upgrade to the latest Garageband version, but it already is the latest version. I have no idea what to do? Hope someone knows.
    Thanks

We need more information to see what is going wrong:
Which version of GarageBand did you use on your Snowleopard System to create your GarageBand projects?
The GarageBand Version you are using now - what version is that? Did it come preinstalled with your Mac or did you migrate it from Snowleopard? When GarageBand is running, click "About GarageBand" in the "GarageBand" menu. The version should be 6.0.5. If you see a different version you probably have two versions of GarageBand installed and are running the older one.
What exactly is the error message and when do you see it? When you try to open GarageBand, or when you try to open and old  GarageBand Project?
    Regards
    Léonie

  • Does Apple TV support wireless connection to the new MacBook Pro retina in an extended display mode?

Does Apple TV support wireless connection to the MacBook Pro retina display in an extended display mode? What is the output resolution and is sound also transmitted across?

SB1983, by extended display do you mean mirror?  All MBP since early 2011 support it if they are running OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.  The resolution will depend on your Apple TV (2 Gen is 720 and 3rd Gen 1080) and wifi, it will lose some quality but I find it minimal.  It does also mirror the sound.
