How do I move a back up to another external drive and how does the Mac Book then find the new back up?
how do I move a back up to another external drive and how does the Mac Book then find the new back up?
I currently have the back up on a Time Capsule, I want to move it from the Time Capsule to another external hard drive.
Did you read the link to the Pondidni website? You will have to select the Time Machine HDD for the new MBP and the old one in System Preferences>Time Machine:
Ciao.

How do I move my iTunes Library to an external drive and retain everything?
I'm sure this is a common [stupid] question, but I couldn't find a clear answer and I want to be sure I'm doing it correctly.
To clarify; I want to move/relocate my iTunes Library folder to an external drive (FW800 two-disk RAID1) to free up my system drive and have a backup. Do I redirect iTunes to the new location and use File>Library>Consolidate Library, or, can I just move or copy the 'iTunes' folder to the external drive and then change the iTunes 'music folder location' to the new location? Will this now save all subsequent imported/purchased music, movies,,..etc to the external drive and retain all my library details?

How do I move from one website to another using Safari, while still allowing Pandora to provide music in the background? It seems that when ever I open a new URL, I lose Pandora.
Try running Pandora in its own tab and leaving that tab open (Safari 7.1.5, OS 10.9.5). I don't have Pandora to try this, but it works for me otherwise.
Good luck

How do you move pictures from iPhoto to an SD Card on a late 2011 Mac Book Pro 15 inch?
How do you move pictures from iPhoto to an SD Card on a late 2011 Mac Book Pro 15 inch?
Do you have a SD slot? If not you get a USB to SD memory card adpater at the computer/office/online store and use that.
It appears as a drive on your machine and you can use Export from iPhoto or drag and drop methods too.
Make sure you backup

iPhoto: Issues with FAT32-formatted drives -
Hello. I keep my iPhoto library (about 90GB) on an external HD and am trying to back it up to another external drive. Both are formatted Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled) and both check out when scanned with Disk Utility. Recently, backup has failed from the start due to error 36. Any ideas how to resolve? Also, what's the maximum recommended size for an iPhoto library file? Thx!
Since you can't drag the library to the other EHD for the backup see if you can duplicate it (if you have enough room on the drive) by selecting it and typing Command+d (duplicate).
If you do rebuild the library without a backup and it goes awry you won't lose your photos but you may lose your orgnaizational efforts. So try the following:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library in the location of your choosing based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
NOTE: Fix 2 above might be the method you might want to try first with iPLM creating the new library on your second EHD. If it works that would get your backup copy on the second EHD at the same time as repairing it. If it does'nt work then go back to Fix 1.

I am writting a document in spanish and the mac book pro changes the words to english how do I stop this
I guess you are talking about the spellchecker.
Select the text you want to be Spanish:
Inspector > Text > Text > Language > Español
Why not set your Mac to be in Spanish?
Menu > Apple > System Preferences > Language & Text > Language > drag Español to the top of the list

How do I move an iTunes library from one external drive to another?
I need to move my iTunes library from one external disk to another, because the original disk is about to fail. So, I went into iTunes Perferences --> Advanced, and set the library to a new, empty folder on the new drive.
Nothing changed. I expected all my music to vanish from iTunes, so that I would have to re-import it. However, all the music remained, still on the old disk. At this point, if I were to recreate the library on the new disk, I would have all of my music twice.
Is it possible to move an iTunes library from one external drive to another, or am I stuck with my original choice until I buy a new machine? If I can move it, can one of you clever folks explain how it could be done?Paul Seymour1 wrote:
However, those are all dealing with old versions of iTunes that still contained the Advanced --> Consolidate Library command which is no longer part of the app. (I'm on iTunes 10.6.1.)
Consolidate is still part of iTunes.
It is in iTunes menu File > Library > Manage library > Consolidate.
The article you linked to is old and it is (and was) a hacky way of doing it.
Just copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder to new location, hold Option (Mac) or Shift (Windows) when launching iTunes. -
How can I move my iphoto Library to another hard drive?
I would like to move my iphoto library to another drive. I've already copied it to the other drive, do I now just delete it from the internal drive? If so how does iphoto know where to find the photos?
doug4747
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library Folder as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

How do i move aperture library to from MBP external drive
Perhaps I am not searching properly, but was unable to bring up a 2011 answer to this question. Does anyone have more current help than 2011?
Thank you, léonie, for your extensive help. I do not wish to impose on you, but have answered the first part of your response below. If you were to continue helping, I would appreciate that greatly. I also hope continuing the conversation within the community this way is ok. If not please advise.

“What exactly is the mess now? I do not want to contribute to it inadvertently by missing details.”
I meant that, the original library remained on my MBP and the copied library was on my new dedicated external drive. My original problem of only 50 gigs on my MBP meant the beach ball was quite active.
I set the library from within aperture to the file on my new dedicated external drive. Images I looked at appeared and all functioned well but slowly.
Since I had a vault set, had a clone of my original MBP hard drive from before the library copy and a time machine backup to another dedicated hard drive, I sent the original iMovie library to trash and deleted it.
I then reindexed spotlight and the MPB worked much faster, reflecting some 150 gigs available much better than 50 from before.
Is this summary correct?
My external drive was formatted correctly. I did user finder to move my "iPhoto" library from my mac to my external drive.
I did redirect Aperture to the external drive. but I see that the original library remains on my mac. (Which, as I mentioned above, with much care and several types of backup, I trashed the original file, which was on my MBP).
So you could open your library on the external drive? Is it working correctly? Yes
Are you able to open all images? Yes, based on a sampling of images.
Is your library referenced or not? That means, did you import your images into Aperture or photo with the "Import Settings" set to "Store Files: In the Aperture Library"?
I am not sure from where you got the graphic labeled “Aperture Library”. My Aperture version is 3.5.1.
When I go to Aperture preferences and select import, this is what I see:
In advanced this is what I see:
I think the difference is in my version.
Continuing, when I look at iPhoto, it references the new library on my external drive. Here’s that screen shot.
So, the Aperture setting says it is currently set to use iphoto for camera imports and iPhoto is set to use the new external drive’s library. I am not sure how file imports will be affected, but assume it will be the same. Is that correct?
Any comments up to this point?
I will now try the smart album comment. -
How do I move my itunes media to an external drive?
My hard drive is getting full. I would like to move my tunes media to an external drive but now I have music all over. Has anyone done this succesfully?
Copy the entire iTunes folder to the root of external drive, e.g. as X:\iTunes where X: is the drive letter. Click the icon for iTunes and immediately press and hold down the shift key. Keep holding until asked to choose or create a library. Click choose and browse to the file X:\iTunes\iTunes Libary.itl. Use File > Library > Organize Library > Consolidate Files and click OK. iTunes will create local copies of any stray files in the media folder. You can then delete the originals stored elsewhere.
Backup the library with this User Tip. (And yes, that means you really need another drive.)

The mini mac is full and I want to be able to use the 2 tb drive as storage and time machine. How do I get the content onto the external drive and access it it and hoe does new content get downloaded and stored to the drive not the mac? Also can I have 1 drive playing storeage and back up or do I need a second? Basic questions I suspect but not to me!
1. Drag the library to the external drive, launch iTunes with the Option key held down, click on Choose Library, and point it there.
2. Get a second. Having the backups on the same drive as the original data won't help when that drive fails.

Backed up iTunes on external drive and lost my playlists
Hey Everyone,
So here is my issue. I use my macbook for DJing purposes and decided to backup my iTunes library to an external hard drive incase of a crash so I dont loose my precious music. So I went into my preferences, Advanced, and changed the iTunes folder location to my external, and consolidated the library which backed up my files to the drive but did not delete them from the internal drive, However whenever I would click a song to play it said it could not find the file. So I went back into preferences and changed the folder location back to iTunes music but that still didnt work. To make a long story short, I ended up Re importing the playlist (From internal Drive) back into itunes which worked fine. Here is my main issue.... All of my playlist folders are there but they are all empty. I have about 100 of them and are very very organized. I am wondering since I backed up the library to the external drive, Are the playlist folders on my external hard drive and how can I retrieve them if they are? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in Advance!decided to backup my iTunes library to an external hard drive incase of a crash so I dont loose my precious music. This is not a backup. This copies everything in iTunes to the new location and iTunes will use that location from now on.
The music located in /Music/iTunesiTunes music/ folder is no longer needed or used by iTunes.
However whenever I would click a song to play it said it could not find the file
iTunes was looking for it on the external (which you probably unplugged/umnounted).
I am wondering since I backed up the library to the external drive
You did not back up the library to the external.
You consolidated everything in iTunes to the external and iTunes will use that.
As Jim noted, if you want to to backup, copy the entire iTunes folder.
Jim'
If you somehow lost it, look for it in the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder in your music folder.
The itl file gets copied into the *Previous iTunes Libraries* folder only when you update iTunes. -
I have my iTunes media on an external hard drive while the library is on the main computer drive. I want to move both to a larger external drive. How do I get both together? When I consolidate, it only transfers the media files. Help.
Since I already consolidated, can I just move the library to the root level of the external drive then option click to point to that library? But using that method, all the media files are at the root level along with the iTunes folder. So nothing will be in the iTunes media folder itself. WIll that work?
