How do I move organized photos from dropbox to iPhoto and share with another user on the same mac?

I have about 3,500 photos sitting in dropbox and just purchased my first mac yesterday.  My husband and I each have our own Ipad and our own user id's on the mac.  I moved two of the folders to Iphoto and it shows up on my screen in the right folders.  However, on my Ipad, it shows all of them under one Photostream and not organized.  They don't show up on my husband's "side of the computer" at all.
So my questions are:
1.  How does one mirror their file organization on the Ipad?
2.  How does one share all of the folders with another user on the same Ipad so they can view folders, and add pictures to the folders if they like?
Thanks!

1.  How does one mirror their file organization on the Ipad?
If you use the Photo Stream, the organisation in iPhoto will be lost - there is just one endless stream.  YOu could sync your photos using iTunes. Then you will see the synced albums in the Photos.app on the iPad.
See this link:   iOS and iPod: Syncing photos using iTunes
How does one share all of the folders with another user on the same Ipad so they can view folders, and add pictures to the folders if they like?
On the same iPad?  Do you mean on the same mac?
If you want to share an iPhoto library between two users on the same mac, the iPhoto library should be on a separate disk partition or even better, on a separate external disk. Then you can set the flag "Ignore ownership on this volume" to avoid permission problems. Both of you will be able to browse the iPhoto library and can edit the photos within.
See this support document:  iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users
If both of you want to keep separate iPhoto libraries but share the photos, you could share selected albums as Shared PhotoStreams and invite each other to browse them. This would require iOS 7. Do you have iOS 7 on your iPad?  Each Shared Photo Stream will be shown as a separate album on your iPad .

  • How can i share my iphoto 11 library with another user on the same mac?

    hi
i recently added a new user account for my wife on my macbook pro. now we want to share the existing iphoto 11 library, which is on my account, with the new user account. i'm using os x lion.
    many thanks!

For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
    What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • Mountain Lion: Copying mailbox from one user to another user on the same mac

When I bought the mac I had only one email address.  Since then I have accumulated 3 more addresses. I created another User on the same MAC to seperate the personal emails from the 3 new email addresses, that I use for business.
There are some mailboxes from the 1st account that has business information in them that I want to move to the 2nd User account (with the 3 e-mail addresses).  I though that I could save them in the dropbox and then save them into the 2nd User accounts like I did with the documents and spreadsheets, but this does not work.
I really need to separate the Family Personal email information from the Busines Information and I do not want to just send lots and lots of emails to the accounts to get them there.
I am not using Cloud at the moment because it created some syncing issues.  Because the 1st User Account and email account is synced with an iPad and iPhone that my wife uses with an Apple ID.  The 2nd User (and 3 mail addresses) are synced with my iPhone and a separate Apple ID.  We have separate ID's because she did not want my personal & business contacts seeping into the family email accounts
I know that this is long, but I wanted to provide as much information as possible, so that I can resolve this.
    Thanks in Advance

I spent quite a few hours after this was posted trying to figure it out and I did.
Select Mailbox > Export Mailbox.  This asks you a location to export the mailboxes to.  It just uploads the exported mailboxes into Dropbox.
Then change the User that I want to import the mailboxes into. Select Import and select the location of where you placed the folder in Dropbox. This then imports the mailbox into a folder called Import. You then drag and drop the copied mailboxes from the Import folder to the folder in the structure you have.  If you decide to delete the folders from the import folder list, do this.  You can also delete the copied folders from Dropbox if you wish.
Took a while, but I got there and I'm happy now....

  • How do i share my itunes library with other users on the same mac

I'm trying to share my itunes library with other users on the same mac.  I have tried moving my library to a public folder but when the other user logs in they can't see it in the public folder?

Presuming you moved the entire iTunes folder to the shared folder the other users need to start their iTunes while holding down the option/alt key and select the iTunes Library.itl file in the shared folder.  Only once should be necessary.  Note that any changes anybody makes will be seen by everybody, so you have to trust each other a lot.
If all you moved are media files each user will have to add those files to their iTunes library.

How can i share documents with different users on the same mac?

Shared how? The other users can read the documents or you all can read and write the documents?
The first is easy just place the documents in /Users/Shared anyone can access the files there and the other users will be able to read them.
The second is a bit trickier.

I would like to share a playlist with another uuser on the same computer.  We have separate itunes libraries on the same computer. How do gey my playlist from my library to hers?

I'm not sure, but maybe if you activate home sharing. It should also share playlists, not only files.
The only other way I can think of is to export the playlist and import for the other user.

  • How can I share Quicken and other apps with another user on the same iMac?

I would like to share some apps including Quicken with anoter user on the same iMac. I have put the Quicken app and the .QFX file in /usrs/share and changed the permissions to R/W on both files but when I log in as the other user and run Quicken it does not use the .QFX file and instead comes up with no accounts.

The Quicken app. should be in the Applications folder at the root of Macintosh HD. It's accessible to all users from there.
To share a file, (this from Finder Help menu)
"Sharing files with others who use your computer
You can share files with others who use your computer by placing the files in the Public folder in your home folder. Anyone with an account on your computer can read or copy the items you put in your Public folder (except for your Drop Box folder, which only you can open).
To share files using your Public folder:
Copy the files you want to share into your Public folder, inside your home folder.
To give a copy of a file directly to another person, copy it to their Drop Box folder (inside their Public folder), where only they can see it."
When opening a file just double-click the file - it will open the application automatically.

  • How can I cope iPhotos from one to another user on the same mac

How can I copy my iphotos from on user to another on the same mac?

Depending on how many pictures you wish to share there are different options.
    1) Steps to share your whole iPhoto Library
    A) Share your photos
Firstly setup a shared folder that the other user(s) will be able to access. This can be done in System Preferences, Sharing, then selecting the checkbox next to 'File Sharing'. You'll then want to select the folder to share and also the users who can access it.
In your instance, I would suggest sharing the folder where your 'iPhoto Library' file resides, which is most likely going to be in the default 'Pictures' folder. The other user will then be able to access your 'iPhoto Library' in their iPhoto application under their user account and see all contents in your iPhoto library.
    B) Configure the other users iPhoto to access your shared iPhoto Library (or any library of your choice)
Logout of your account and into the user who requires access to your iPhoto Library. Find the iPhoto application, press and hold the option/alt key and click to open the application. 'What photo library do you want iPhoto to use?' will appear in a window, click 'Choose', navigate to your preferred iPhoto Library and iPhoto will now load your pictures.
    2) Steps to share a few selected pictures
You will follow the same steps as above in order to setup a shared pictures folder, however in your user account, drag and drop photos out of your iPhoto library into a shared folder which the other user can access.
    Notes:
The method of sharing your whole iPhoto Library means that both users will be accessing/editing the same library. This means you will be able to see pictures imported/edited by each other. If this is undesired, you can create a copy of your iPhoto library on the 2nd user account instead of both accounts running the same library from a shared folder.

  • I cannot import my photos to iPhoto but can using another user sharing the same library.

I am trying to import my photos on my main user account on my iMac to iPhoto 11.  I am running Mac OS X Version 10.7.5
When I try to upload using my main user account it will not upload the photos.  It gives an error message "iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image.  I also get urecognised file format from my Cannon SLR.  The crazy thing is, I share the same library with my wifes user account on the same Mac and the images upload without any issues.  I can see them in my user account but when I try to open the landscape files I get an exclamation mark on a black background.
Any help with this will be appreciated.

The exclamation mark means that iPhoto has lost/broken the file path to the original/master file. Apply the two fixes below in order as needed to reair the library:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • How do I share my iTunes library with another user on the same computer?

I trired to follow the instructions provided by I-Tunes which was to move the ITunes media library to the shared section, however, the computer will not allow me to do this.  When I drag the file to the shared section, it will only allow me to drop it into the Airport.  I tried hovering it over the "shared" title but it's not working.
    Is there another solution?

    Hello Kathy,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing when trying to move your iTunes Library.
It sounds like you may be trying to move it to the "Shared" titled on the Finder Sidebar.  When you see "Shared" in the Finder Sidebar, this is just a title and not an actual folder.
I recommend moving your iTunes Library to either the "Public" folder in your user accoung to the "Shared" folder listed in the Users folder.  You can access the Shared folder by clicking Go at the top of the screen with Finder open, and selecting Computer>Macintosh HD>Users>Shared:
Drag the iTunes Media folder to a public location. For example, you could move it to the Public folder in your Home folder (~/Public) or to a location outside your Home folder that other users can access (/Users/Shared).
Important: Don't move the iTunes folder, the iTunes library file, or the iTunes library.xml file.

  • How can I share a folder between two users on the same mac?

    Hi all,
I would like to share a folder between multiple users on the same macbook without having to transfer the folder to the Public/Shared folder.
Is there not a way, using the the folders shared permissions, to allow shared folders from one user to be visible and usable by another user on the same mac without having to move the folder to a designated shared location?
    Regards,
    Caleb

Thanks, but do you have to do that every time you share a folder?
No, you just need to do it once and that's it. Anything that is in the Shared folder is accessible by all user accounts within the same Mac.

I've read numerous 'how to share a folder' blogs and they just say it's as simple as clicking 'share' and allowing specific users to access it...none have mentioned this (not saying your advice is wrong at all, just don't get why no-one else has mentioned what appears to be a key step!)
Can you give me an example of such a blog. I suspect you may have mis-understood what they were saying but if you can provide a link, I'll look at it.
