Select the photos in iPhoto and export to a desktop folder. Mount the thumb drive and drag that folder to the thumbnail

You export them: File -> Export

Or if you want to, you can keep the images in iPhoto and move the Library to an external:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

It is better to export (file menu ==> export) since when you export you control exactly what you get - see the user tip on exporting for details
When you drag and drop you get the current preview with limited Metadata

  • Hi: How do I move photos from iphoto to the "pictures" file?

Hi: How do I move photos from iphoto into the Pictures file? I just purchased a digital camera and the software is only available for photos in the pictures file. Thanks.

What camera and software is it and why do you want to use it instead of iPhoto? Is this software that came with the camera?  You don't need to use it as iPhoto is all you need. That software is not compatible with iPhoto so you would have to abandon iPhoto if you want to use the camera's software.

  • How do I move photos from iPhoto to new PC or Mac?

We are in the market for a new computer.  I want a Mac (of course!) but my husband and our budget are more comfortable with a PC.  My question is how do we move photos from our old Mac to a new comp?  Can it be done via a network?  I assume it is easier from Mac to Mac.  We do not have an external hard drive and our old comp is very outdated.  The version of iPhoto used is 6.0.6 and OS is OS X, 10.4.11.  We cannot do any further updating to either the application or OS.  We do have both an iPod and iPad but neither can even be synced with this current computer!  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks

For a PC select all photos in iPhoto and export to a desktop folder. Move that folder to the PC
For a Mac copy the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the pictures folder of the new Mac
The connection can be a network, a cable or even an external hard drive you move to the new system or a DVD if it will hold everything

  • How do I move photos from iPhoto to Pinterest?

I have just downloaded the latest iPhoto. I work a lot with Pinterest, and it would be helpful to be able to move (pin) photos from iPhoto to Pinterest. Since I'm a green horn at this, I'd appreciate a simplistic answer. I thank you!

If you're referring to iPhoto on your iMac then you would export the photos out of iPhoto via File ➙ Export ➙ File Export to a folder on the Desktop.  Then upload to Pineterest as you would normally outside of iPhoto.

  • How can I move photos from iphoto to external hard drive?

My internal is full and I'm getting those messages to clean up the drive.  I've determined that my photos need to leave!  Can I move photos from my Air to the hard drive external and still view them?
    Thanks

Make sure the external drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) and is connected with a wired connection, quit iPhoto, drag the iPhoto library to the EHD intact as a single entity and launch iPhoto while depressing to option key. Use the resulting select library window to select the new location. Be sure the EHD is available prior to launching iPhoto

  • How do I move photos from iPhoto to my external HD?

I think my Mac is full so I need to move some of my files to my backup drive. I'm sure my pictures in iPhoto are using most of my disk space. How do I move certain pictures currently in iPhoto to my backup drive? I can't actually see the files in my hard drive - I only see one iPhoto Library icon (HD -->Users --> User Name --> Pictures) For example, I want to move all my photos from 2009 and 2010 off my Mac and onto my external HD so my Mac will have more disk space.

... it would be one giant file. my iPhoto library weighs in @ 2.41 GB - but i only have a couple of thousand pics.
I want to be able to view each photo as an individual icon when I access my external HD
again, if you follow the instructions from the link i provided, and make sure the external drive is connected before you launch iPhoto, it will be as if the iPhoto library still were on your startup disk

  • How do I move photos from iPhoto Library to Finder?

When I got my Mac I wasn't sure how to transfer photos from my PC.  I made the mistake of importing about 1/2 of them, abt. 19,000 into iPhoto.
I prefer to use Photoshop Elements and a hierarchical file system, ie. Pictures>Critters>wild birds>owls>Great Grey etc. None of iPhoto's little tricks like facial recognition are useful to me.
Can I just go into the iPhoto Library package and drag the Masters folder into my Pictures folder, then uninstall iPhoto?

You can use Photoshop and the external editor from within iPhoto for seamless editing with PS. Just note the warnings in red in Step 3. Othere than that you have the best of both worlds.
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note 1: screenshots are from PSE 10
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.
However, it may be that iPhoto is not the application for you.

I am stuck in moving pictures around my computer. iphoto wont let me move them anywhere. How do i  do this?

  • How do i move photos from iPhoto to my iPhone?

I just let the iPhoto delete all the photos off my iPhone 4s.  But, there's a few I would like to put back on.  How do I do that?

    Hello,
To do this, just plug your iPhone into your computer and click on it in the sidebar. Then there should be a little menu above your phone's information. Click on Photos and check off Sync Photos from and select iPhoto from the drop down menu. Then select what from iPhoto you want, and click Apply from the bottom of iTunes.
    Hope this helps,

  • How do I move photos from iPhoto to external drive as jpegs (iphoto 7.1.5)

I'm running out of space on my mac so wanted to move all my photos to an external drive. When I export my iphoto library though, they're not saved as individual jpeg files, which is what I want. I basically want to be able to plug the drive into any USB port and see my photos.
    Please help me!
You used to be able to find the folders and drag and drop... I can't seem to do this anymore...?!

If you want to move your iPhoto Library:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you want to simply export your photos, that's what the File -> Export command is for.
