How do I open attachments, bank statements, etc. w/o downloading?

I am unable to open attachment in e-mails (Yahoo) or documents online, I have to download and I am not having any success. I'm not computer literate so please give a simple, east to follow correction to this problem. Thanks

Current Firefox versions have enabled a built-in PDF Viewer that doesn't have all features that other PDF readers like the Adobe Reader have or may not function properly otherwise.
You can change the action for Portable Document Format (PDF) from Preview in Firefox to use another application like the Adobe Reader or set to Always Ask in "Firefox > Options/Preferences > Applications".
You can set the pdfjs.disabled pref to true on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable the build-in PDF viewer.
You can check the value of the plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types pref on the about:config page and remove the application/pdf part if present or reset the pref to the default via the right-click context menu.

I need to know how to fix the Adobe reader so I can read the same PDF docs, my bank statements, etc that I have always been able to read before.

Then why was I able to read them before? I downloaded a PDF study guide that I have been using for weeks. Then all of a sudden, a couple days after I purchased rights from ADOBE to convert from text to PDF everything comes up in a different fot. It is in a draft type of font that is very light, the caps are bold and it is difficult to read. I can still read the Study Guide, though it is hard on my eyes, but my bank statements are illegible. Now please tell me if it isn't Reader, what is it? and HOW DO I FIX IT?

Unless you believe middle-click is yours and don't like it being usurped, mine is set globally to "Enter".

You can also use the Quick Look button next to the attachments line (in the message header) to view and scroll through the files (provided they're viewable, and aren't compressed or binary files).

Are you sure that the attachment file type is a supported file? Can you open the attachment on your computer?
If the answer to both questions is yes - try quitting the mail app completely and restart the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

Can't open my bank stats with Safari or Preview. Phoned the bank and they told me to download Adobe reader. Would like to avoid that. Any hints?

If you do opt to download Adobe reader do it from the Adobe site - not from any second party including your bank.
Adobe had an issue in 2013 where the Reader would run imbedded code when you opened a PDF.
They announced the fix on their in Spring of 2013.
In October of 2013 Adobe was hacked and the hackers took some source code.
Are you running a virus checker that checks on opening?
It may be the thing that is preventing you from opening the statement - because it has a virus or malware in it - or what seems to be same.
I don't run Adobe reader, or Flash-player.

The RX100M3 is supported only by version 8.5. It sounds like you need a newer version.

Thank you Terence. I did try that and found it do-able, however, it's too time consuming. The easier fix was to remove 'Photos' from the task bar, go to finder and repin iPhoto and use it. I am rather amazed that Apple decided to configure this program, in such a way. No plugins, no right click to edit in another program?? I guess I fail to see the big picture or big PHOTOS ?

Every time I open (not save) an attachment, a copy of it is automatically saved on my desktop. My desktop continually gets cluttered. I've searched on my computer but can't find where I'd go to change the default settings so this will stop happening.

Thanks. I am referring to email attachments. I always use Mozilla Firefox to open up email attachments. In Firefox Preferences under the download tab you can choose either "Ask me where to save every file" or "Save all files to this folder." I've set it to "Ask me where to save every file" of course yet this is still saving to my desktop. Further, I don't even want to save the files, the files always save to my desktop when I just try to open, not even save, an attachment.

When I receive an email that includes an attachment, I am not able to open the attachment. I get this message:

If its a software issue because of a bad install of the update there are a few things you can do to try and fix it yourself; restart, reset, restore from backup, and restore as new. Doing the first two won't cause any data loss and are the easiest to do. A restore from backup will reinstall the OS but it might reintroduce the glitch if it was caused by corrupt apps or data. A restore as new sets your phone up in a new out of the box condition. I suggest you back your data up to your computer via iTunes before you do anything - just in case. If you are going to do either restore methods do it through iTunes rather than over wifi. If you do the restore to new then test your phone to see if you still have the same issues before you reinstall your apps and data.
