The wireless device creates a port-to-private IP address table entry when a computer on your AirPort (private) network sends a request for information to the Internet.
    If you’re using a web, AppleShare, or FTP server on your AirPort Extreme network, other computers initiate communication with your server. Because the Apple wireless device has no table entries for these requests, it has no way of directing the information to the appropriate computer on your AirPort network.
    To ensure that requests are properly routed to your web, AppleShare, or FTP server, you need to establish a permanent IP address for your server and provide inbound port mapping information to your Apple wireless device.
    To set up inbound port mapping:
    1) Open AirPort Utility, select your wireless device, and then choose Base Station > Manual Setup, or double-click the device icon to open its configuration in a separate window. Enter the password if necessary.
    2) Click the Advanced button, and then click Port Mapping.
    3) Click the Add button and choose a service, such as Personal File Sharing, from the Service pop-up menu.

  • How can I open port 80

    I am using a 2wire modem/router. I was told by a tech at ATT that I can only click a button that allows ALL ports open, but not just port 80.
    Does anyone know if there is a way to open port 80 ONLY? I'm next to done setting up a security CCTV system for my home, and this would allow me to use my computer to look at whats going on, rather than buying a new monitor.

    Thanks for the reply. You and X423424X are close. From the beginning. I bought a 4 camera DVR security surveillance system. Yesterday, we installed it. I was told by the place from which I bought it ( and subsequently from the manufacturer's tech guy)  that if I wanted to use my computer for a monitor for the security setup, that in the Router Firewall Settings I would have to identify the device, and then 'direct' the device "through" port 80 to be able to view the 'goings on outside' (the input from the cameras) from my computer monitor. Inclusive with this configuration via the iMac, is that the DVR is recording all the time, and I could download any portion of the recorded material from the DVR to the iMac and burn it to a disk, for example to give to the cops if there was a theft. AND, it was also mentioned that in order to remote view whats going on around the place from say, a laptop or pc when I'm out of town can also be done, but that would require opening another port, with 4 digits, like 3806, or similar. I will eventually get the port number for this operation later. So that is what I'm trying to do.
    So far, the 'local tech' from the security store seems to have limited knowledge of the Mac, and of the 2Wire router/modem. So HE was on the phone with first the tech support from the security cam/DVR dealers, and then with an ATT tech. The ATT tech was the one that said, in the firewall settings on the modem, there is a button that opens ALL ports, and that was the only way to allow port 80 to be used for the DVR/security setup.
    I think that he is incorrect. I think that there is a way to view the camera images on my Mac monitor, and that there is a way to configure the settings on the router to allow the camera images to  be seen on the computer screen, and that I could also download to the HD on the iMac any 3 or 4 minute portion of what is recorded on the DVR, in order to burn a copy. I have a co-worker that had a car taken, and her neighbor was there in an instant telling her thatt he had the whole thing on his video surveillance, and had a disc burnt in about 5 minutes, which went to the police. Her car was found, and the perp arrested within 2 hours.
    THATS what I want to end up with (no, not a stolen car, but the configuration), and I'm hoping that I can find the way to get 'er done here. There is only one good Apple/OS X tech in this town, and he is on vacation for another week. AND, I'm not sure he is a 2wire expert.

    I have a Netgear DG934G Router from Sky which is broadcasting a 'B/G' only network. To this, connected by ethernet I have an Airport Extreme which runs a seperate 'N' only network. The Extreme is set to bridge and the Netgear distributes the IP addresses.
    How would I use Transmission? How do I forward the ports on the extreme to allow it to download?
    I use the B/G network for my partners laptop and the iPhone and I use the N network for my macbook, apple tv and my Airport express to stream music.

    ...I am wondering why then does my apple tv not pick up on the N network, only the G network?
    The ability to pick up the wireless signal from the AEBS has absolutely nothing to do with opening ports. This relies only on the strength and quality of the RF signal reaching the Apple TV.
    Also I wanted to use an Extreme to extend the N network but when I am trying to set it up, it will not see the N network in the Airport Utility.
    I am confused. If the AEBS is creating the N network how is it going to extend the N network?

    I recently purchased several internet cameras. Not webcams. You can set them up to be viewed by any computer via the internet. Now it is my understanding that I need to open two ports. One for the web server and the other for the actual image transfer. I can assign separate IP's, and Web server and image transer ports throught the camera software for each individual camera. My internet connection setup in DHCP. Does this need to be Static?  Can anyone explain to me how to exactly open the appropiate ports on my router to be viewed over the internet?

    Hi… You would need to change the IP address on all the cameras to be static and unique and also need to change the port on the cameras from 2064 to 2065 to second camera, 2066 to third and so on. Now you can go ahead and forward the these ports on the router for corresponding IP address.

  • How to forward/open ports for WRT54G?

    Hi. I recently bought a WRT54G because my old router was destroyed by lightening and thunder. I have managed to set it up, and got the interent itself to work with static IP adress (192.168.1.101 for my PC).
    However, even though I have tried to forward/open ports for applications like uTorrent and DC++ as well as Limewire, I have no luck. When I test if the ports are indeed opened, I get the result that they are not. Here are how my port forward setting looks like for utorrent. The port in the settings image is of course the same as in uTorrent.

    Anyways, look what I found in the uTorrent FAQ:
    1.7 Special note for users with Linksys WRT54G/GL/GS routers, there are severe problems with them when running any P2P application
    To fix it, they say one has to flash with a unofficial firmware, but I will rather get the money back and buy another router tomorrow. Thanks for the help anyways .

    I've had no success trying to get ARD working on a new Snow Leopard Server 10.6.2 install on an XServe. Can't get it working from the Sharing control panel, and tried all the different syntax options in kickstart here

    A port scan shows that port 3283 is closed, but the computer firewall is off, and there is no external firewall. Another 10.6.2 Server works fine on ARD, so it's internal to the first one.
    How can I open that port? Hoping that's the problem.

    It's probably a Mac OS X firewall fault, where it's actually holding that port closed even though it claims the firewall is off. I'd suggest you ask in the Mac OS X Server forum; you'll be more likely to get help with this problem there this not being an ARD problem per se.
    This of course presumes that the Xserve isn't behind a router that might be filtering that port. If both Xserver are on the same subnet, that probably won't be the case, but if the problem Xserve is on a different subnet, you might check the router's filter.

    You could create a disk image and encrypt it with a password. Move the files into that and delete the originals. On return, copy them back from the disk image to their original locations.
    To create a disk image:
    Open Disk Utility.
    Select New Image
    Give it a name, select a size and choose Enrcryption
    Click Create
    Enter a chosen password twice (make it different to your normal one)
    The newly created disk image will appear mounted on the Desktop, if that is the location you chose for it.
    Move your sensitive files into it.
    Unmount it (eject it)
    Test it by double clicking on it, supply your password.
    Once opened (mounted), check your files are in there and work correctly.
    Again eject it. It can remain on your computer as it can't be opened except by you.
    Delete the original files.

    I've got my Airport Extreme set properly, and "ipfw" is turned off/set to open. However, when I run the Port Scan with Network Utility from my Macbook on my local area network, neither port 500, 1701, or 4500 show up as open. Because I'm not seeing it from one mac to another on the local network, that leads me to conclude there is something on my Mac Pro, running OS X Server 2.2.1 and OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4, that is keeping those ports closed. What could it be if not the ipfw firewall?
    My hours of internet research have not otherwise turned up a way to affirmatively open a port in Mac OS X—only the ability to close a port using ipfw. Please help!

    Reviewing relevant comments, my guess is this is one of those mysterious issues that requires a reinstallation of Mountain Lion. It appears that there is some ghost in the Server program and my Mac Pro that results in the VPN thinking it is working and ready to go when, in fact, it is not. This would not be the first ghost in OS X Server and/or my Mac Pro, as you can see if you review the questions I've asked on this board.
    I don't know if I have it in me to risk something else going wrong with OS X Server after the reinstallation. Ironically, however, the only thing I can get it to do is run a Time Machine server for my one laptop . . . but I had such a hard time getting Open Directory up and working that I am reallly hesitant to start over–even though I don't use Open Directory for anything. Maybe someone could suggest a good third-party VPN service?

  • How do I open the same ports on an Airport Extreme Base Station for multiple computers at the same time?

    As the title suggests...
    I have a mix of five Mac and PC's at home using an Airport Extreme Base Station as the router.   I need many ports opened on the AEBS for all of the computers- not just one computer.  (for example: three people want to play TF2 on Steam at the same time; each machine needs the correct ports open on the router).   Port forwarding  only allows me to forward a given port to a single IP, yet I need that port open for five differnt IP's, all at the same time. 
    How do I do that on an AEBS?
    In the same way, I have a small office of four iMacs using an old airport with the same exact issue.   I would like to be able to connect to all of them remotely with Apple Remote Desktop, but the port forwarding on the airport only allows a port to forward to a single IP.   I want to be able to tunnel into the office network and log onto any machine behind the Airport extreme... not just a single IP.    I currently have it set up where I can tunnel into the office from my house, I can find the one machine that the port forwarding has been assigned to, I can log on and everything is just fine... with one machine.    How do I open the firewall for the other machines? 
    TL,DR version:  How do you open ports on an Airport Extreme Base Station instead of forwarding ports?   Forwarding ports doesn't work for multiple IP's.  

    You can open a single or multiple ports to a single device or different ports to different devices, but you cannot open the same port to multiple devices via the AirPort Utility for the Apple routers.
