How do I prevent iPhoto from starting every time I connect to a camera card?

Every time I put in a camera card iPhoto starts. Is there a way to prevent this short of deleting iPhoto from the applications?

In the iphoto Preferences disable "connecting Camera opens" - set it to "No application".
If that does not suffice, do the same in Image Capture:
In Image Capture - with your camera card inserted- click the disclosure triangle in the lower left corner of the window to reveal the menu to set the preferences for the device:
Then set the option to "Connectiong this ... opens"  to "No application"

  • How do I stop iphoto from opening every time I connect my iphone to my computer?

I don't really want to sync my iphone with my iphoto. Whenever I plug my phone into my computer, iphoto automatically opens and asks if I want to sync. Is there a way to stop this from happening?
    Thanks!

The RIGHT way is to copy photos from your phone to iPhoto and delete them from the Camera Roll. If you still want them on the iPhone add them back to the photo album app. The Camera Roll is a bad place to leave photos that are important, and a silly place to leave photos that are not. It is intended as temporary storage, jost like any digital camera.
iPhone will not open if the camera roll is empty.

  • How do you stop iPhoto from loading every time you dock the iPhone?

I would like to NOT have iPhoto start up every time I plug in my iPhone. I am sure there must be an easy way to do this. Thanks!

There are two different topics in this thread, and two separate "sync photo" issues with iPhone.
    1) Syncing photos to iPhone, similar to the process if you had an iPod. This is handled as mentioned above, from within iTunes.
    2) Syncing photos from iPhone, as with any camera. This is handled from within iPhoto, also as mentioned above.
I just wanted to point out that these are two independent processes, able to be modified separately.
If you have cleared out the iPhone and/or not taken any more pictures, it will not cause iPhoto to pop up.

  • How do I stop iPhoto from launching every time I sync my iPhone?

I have looked for something in Preferences on both my iPhone's PHOTOS tab as well as in iPhoto but cannot find where to tell whatever I need to tell to stop iPhoto from launching automatically every time I hook up my iPhone to my Mac to sync. This is really annoying and I'd so much rather just handle anything like that via the iTunes interface vs. another window/program that has to operate to deal with stuff on the iPhone. It's INelegant at best and just simply a pain in the arse at worst.

You mean I can use this Image Capture thing for moving stuff from scanners as well?
You bet. Some don't prefer using iPhoto to store all imported digital camera photos or any such application (not sure why but to each his/her own) so Image Capture can be used instead which is a simple import/transfer application. Using Image Capture, you can download some or all, remove photos from the camera after the download process, select a default download location or create a new folder in the location of choice and use a chosen automatic task such as crop to a 4' x 6' which occurs after the download process is complete.
A nice simple little application which has some juice for those who don't like using iPhoto or similar type application.
I'm in the habit of rooting around the applications folder and utilities folder with a new Mac purchase so I was aware of Image Capture but I've always preferred using iPhoto for my digital camera import process.

  • How do I prevent iTunes from opening every time I sign on to Windows?

I have finally gotten iTunes kinstalled on my Windows 7 64 bit computer,, however every time I log in, the iTunes window opens. How do I stop this?

This is crazy. If they are going to make iTunes available in Windows, must they punish Windows users by making us change config settings just to keep a program from opening at Startup? A simple checkox in the Settings box of iTunes would make it much easier. Why do Apple-based programs that are made available to Windows users not work as Windows programs do?

  • How do I stop iPhoto from freezing every time I open it?

My O/S is Mac OS X Version 10.6.8.
    iPhoto version is 8.1.2
Does anyone know of a way to fix this so iPhoto will open without freezing?

Remember this was a test. It tells us that iPhoto is essentially sound and the issue is within your main library.
    Let's try repair that:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • How to disable iPhoto from starting up when I connect a camera?

I don't use iPhoto, but annoyingly, it starts itself every time I connect my camera to my iMac. How do I disable this? There seems to be nothing in "Preferences".
I have iPhoto 4. One of the gripes that I have, and a reason I don't use or update iPhoto, is that it seems to be impossible to upload just SOME of the photos in my camera. It's all or nothing. Does anyone know if later versions of iPhoto have fixed this?

Odd because when I went to the apple store to talk to their "genius bar" when I had a problem with my laptop they said " you can't change that option"i was like...are you kidding me???? So after all this time I finally find this option in the apple forums. T hank you guys this really helped me. I was sick and tired of it starting up every time i connect my digi cam or iphone.

  • How do I prevent my new I-Pod from synching every time I connect to my LT?

Perhaps this is I-Pod 101 but I just bought a new I-Pod and cannot figure out how to prevent the thing from syncing every time I connect. I want to move my songs from my LT to my external hard drive and then delete from my LT to open space. I am concerned that deleting songs from my LT hard drive will modify the songs on my I-Pod because it automatically syncs. I am not finding anything under Preferences that looks like it will do the trick.....
I am noticing some confab under "I-Phones Discussions" about an inability to move stuff manually (which is what I am trying to do here). I was able to move songs manually on my old I-Pod and then delete them from my hard drive w/o effecting anything.... Can't seem to do it here and am getting very concerned......

Hey' How do you erase songs off the computer but still keep them on the Ipod? I bought my girlfriend one and my computer is now packed with songs I need to get rid of without erasing everything she put on when the thing synch's Please let me know. Thanks

  • How do i stop iPhoto from automatically opening when I connect my iPhone?

Hi, well as the title states:
How do i stop iPhoto from automatically opening when I connect my iPhone?
    It's getting on my nerves...
    Thanks.

    This might also be helpful:
I wrote an AppleScript that asks me each time I connect the iPhone/camera/etc whether or not I want to open iPhoto. Usually I just hit return and it doesn't open, but once in a while I'll click Yes to open iPhoto and import videos from my phone. I just did it because it's nice to have a little reminder so I don't go for too too long without importing, but not have it slow things down each time I plug in.
Below is the script. Paste it into AppleScript Editor, then export it as an application. Then set Image Capture to open this app when you plug in your phone. Would love to hear if it's helpful for you or if you modify it to use other criteria to automatically import only at certain times or conditions.
    Nathan
set question to display dialog "Open iPhoto to import photos?" buttons {"Yes", "No"} default button 2
set answer to button returned of question
if answer is equal to "Yes" then
              tell application "iPhoto" to activate
    end if

  • Is there a way to prevent iTunes from starting up when I connect my iPad?

Is there a way to prevent iTunes from starting up when I connect my iPad?  We use apple configurator and would prefer to have that open up, if possible.

When you connect the device open iTunes and select it from the sidebar. Click on the Summary tab in the main window. Uncheck the option to automatically connect to iTunes. You will find it in the collection of options near the lower part of the window.

  • Any way to stop iPhoto from launching every time iPhone syncs??

The subject posting says it all: Is there any way to stop iPhoto from launching every time I synch my iPhone? I've clicked this and that, checked this and that. I must be missing something so if someone could help, I thank you in advance.

OR ... delete the photos from the phone after they were imported. If you want those photos to be on the phone, set them to import during a sync. Getting them out of the iPhone's "camera roll" album is the key here.
An easy way is to set up a iPhoto album called "for iPhone" or something. When your new photos are initially imported into iPhoto they will be in the "last roll" smart album. Select them from there and drag them into your "for iPhone" album and make sure that album is selected to sync. Either check the "delete photos after importing" box in iPhoto or delete them manually from your "camera roll" album on your iPhone after the sync. iPhoto will not automatically open until you take new photos.
Remember ... setting Image capture to not open iPhoto, as well as the setting iPhoto to delete photos after importing ... will apply to your camera or memory card device as well.

  • How do I stop apps from reloading every time I unlock my iPhone?

How do I stop apps from reloading every time I unlock my iPhone? I have an iPhone 4 and at least 95% of the time I unlock it, some apps act as though they are reinstalling. It only lasts for about 3 seconds if that but it makes me feel like something is wrong with it. Does anyone else have this problem??

Could you explain what you mean by this? What is happening that makes you think they're reinstalling?

how can i prevent this from happening? it always slows down my computer.
    any help will be appreciated.

Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) - In the preferences you can decide to 'Do Nothing' when a camera is connected.
Some versions also have this option in the iPhoto Preferences.
