How do I put my current iPad profile onto a new one?

This is going to be a simple thing, but as I have never done it, I'd like a little advice or a link please.
I have the iPad mini on ios8.
I'm looking at getting the 'retina' version, but never moved an account over. ie. how to get everything on my ipad, to my new one.
I'm sure you just sign into the new iPad, and it gets all the backusp stuff downloaded, and then I jsut download the Apps I still want to keep (ie. it doesn't just download them all anyway).
But what is the process? Do I use itunes?

Basically, you backup the old device and then restore the new device from the backup of the old device - if you were only using iCloud and not using iTunes at all then all of your apps will download to the device when you restore the backup. If you were using iTunes with your iPad and backing up there. after you restore your iTunes backup, you have to sync the iPad in order to get all of your apps, synced photos and other media back onto the new device.

Music is intended to go one way: from your computer to the iPod. Going the other way is contrary to the design and is not trivial.

iTunes will only give you the option to copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads etc) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.

If you have purchased songs from the iTunes Music Store, then those are pretty easy to transfer to your computer. You'll just need to follow [this instructions|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305465].
All your other songs (for example, those ripped from your CD's), you'll need to use any 3rd party program to transfer them to your iTunes library!
Some can also transfer your playlists, videos, ratings, podcast...

For the music and photos, just copy them into your own new library. They will be usable even though they are tied to the old account. (The exception will any DRM-infected songs that you purchased from the iTunes Store before mid-2009.)
For the apps, decide which ones you still like, and get new copies in your new account.

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

There are no Microsoft Word or Excel apps for the iPad, yet.
The Pages app, among a few others will open, write to and save Word docs. Numbers will do the same for Excel files.
First thing is to buy and download an app to work on these docs from the ap store. Then sync with your computer to have the apps on both your iPad and in your iTunes on your computer. Once this is done you can copy files to the Pages or Numbers section on your iTunes then sync with your iPad to have them copied to the iPad. Also, any Word or Excel files that you receive via email will also open in Pages and or Excel and can be saved to the list of files for those apps.
