How do I randomize songs in a playlist created usint the New Playlist From Selection?
I noticed this was missing too- I use some apps on my iPhone for running and when synced over bluetooth in my car, where the new "random button" and "up next" isn't a viable solution. I have to save a randomized playlist ahead of time since those uses don't support randomization through iTunes- they can only play in the playlist order.
I like to have 5 copies of the same playlist each randomized weekly ahead of time and synced so that each time I go running, it's not the exact same order. Can't find how to do this in iTunes 11.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you should definitely be seeing a plus sign after tapping Edit, so I would try a couple relatively easy things (closing the Music app, resetting the iPhone):

Use View > View Options, and set 'Sort By" to "Manual Order."
Then you will be able to drag-n-drop songs up and down the list. -

In your iTunes Library, highlight the song and right-click/Get Info. On the Options tab is the Skip when shuffling box. Select that and then Sync the iPod with your Library. -

In Playlists, click on the "start playing in shuffle mode" icon (that I've ringed). And...
In this next shot (the space you need to watch), you can see the Shuffle icon (ringed in larey lime) is blue, so it's "on", and I've also clicked on the "show me what's coming up next" icon (ringed in red). Study the list of upcoming songs. It's the Playlist we're in, but shuffled:

If you want to shuffle the music in a playlist make sure the Shuffle setting is set to Songs. Then start playing your desired playlist.

Besides using "View Options", how do you arrange songs within a playlist into a personal preference sequence?
I've tried dragging songs around within a playlist to put them in an order that I prefer, but they wont move outside an order combination defined in "View Options". I've also tried turning off the shuffle option as suggested in a separate post, but this did not work.OK, just click on the first unnamed column where it shows 1,2,3,etc.
Now you should be able to drag them around how you want. -

I found this thread via a search, I have a new iphone 5 (also i am completely new to iphone, having been the last few years on android) and i have spent 20 minutes trying to figure out how to add a song to a playlist.
You see i sit a work and listen to dozens of tunes, and i want to add a paticular song to a particular play list, and low and behold I can't, excuse my special characters but "What the f#%k itunes/apple??? - how can this be? Such a commonly needed function and for itunes to be the number music player in the world not to have this feature is ludicrus.
I am lucky that i only have about 500 songs on my iphone thus far, i feel sorry for stephanW with 4000+ !!

I have given up on my dell and bought an iMac 27"... Now how do I transfer my dell iTunes playlists from my dell to my iMac, as they are showing on the iMac when I plug in my iPod but it's not allowing to me to play them as they are shaded? I have also separately transferred all my music via my external drive from my dell to my iMac which is showing in iTunes but won't upload to my iPod... Just to confuse you even more my AppleTV which is linked to my log in email address and home sharing is showing and playing all the playlists I want to see on my iMac... Phew that was exhausting hope you understand and can help me:-)
You may have transferred all your songs, but your iPad is seeing the library as a different entity.

"New Playlist from Selection" not working in iTunes 8?
Anyone else having this problem? I click on a track and attempt to click "New Playlist from Selection" and it's shaded out....for every track....all the time...
I suppose, although there is no rule that a playlist must be multiple items. There are times when a playlist might only be a single track (e.g. to burn an audio book file out to an audio CD).
Besides, you might be on a song and decide, hey, I have an idea for a playlist and this song is the first one and at that point create a new playlist starting with that song. THEN going to get the other songs. So why not be able to start a playlist with a single track?

Can't make playlists from selections in iTunes 8
Can't click on the selections I want to make into playlists and either choose that option from the pull down menu or use the key command. As others are saying, iTunes 8 is quite buggy.
I am choosing a song or songs from the library and then trying to use the key command (shift command N) to make a playlist from them. However, although I've been doing this for years, I can't do it in iTunes 8. Neither can I choose the song or songs and then make a playlist out of them using the pull down File menu item "Make Playlist from Selection." That menu item is darkened, not available.
Yes, I can still make a new folder, manually name it, then drag and drop the songs into it. -

On their iOS devices, under Settings>iTunes & App Store, they should use your Apple ID. When they log into iCloud, iMessage and Facetime, they should use their personal Apple IDs.
