How do I remove a virtual CD drive in Windows 8?

One of my friends used my computer to download Sims 3, and now I have a virus. It seems to have created a whole virtual CD drive (J:) on my computer, and I can't delete any of it. The drive won't eject or delete. I followed the instructions in another page
of the forum under "windows 8 disk management remove basic virtual disk," but it doesn't see (J:). It sees several other drives, just not that one. The virus is on this drive, and Norton isn't seeing it elsewhere, so I can't just delete that either,
as it's showing the "disk" as read-only. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this problem?
Thank you so much!
PS: I have a screenshot if that would help. The forum won't allow me to post it here.
PPS: The instructions I followed from the other forum page are: "If you don't want the virtual hard disk any longer, all you have to do is delete it.  You don't give specifics, so I will have to guess.
If this is a virtual hard disk used by a VM you tried to create in Hyper-V, first go into Hyper-V and delete the VM.  That just deletes the VM - not the disk.  After deleting the VM, there should be no process using the virtual hard drive, so you
just have to delete it.
Another thing you might have done is to create the VHD and mounted it to Windows 8.  In this case, you can't delete it because Windows 8 owns it.  Start computer management (compmgmt.msc).  Go to Disk Managment.  Find the entry for your
VHD.  Right-click and detach it.  Then you can delete it.
If it is not one of these things, you are going to have to give a more complete description of your environment and what is preventing you from deleting it.  .:|:.:|:. tim"

Go to Device Manager, check if the virtual CD drive is available. If yes, disable or uninstall the device.

  • How do I remove one failing hard drive from raid set and replace with new one

Last Friday apparently one of my raid drives started failing.
As I mentioned on this forum I started getting continous beeping.
I was finally able to get the raid working at a degraded level.  I ordered a replacement hard drive which is arriving today.
(In the meantime I made twice daily backups of my work.....)
Below was the message I got from the browser based raid software:
    Blahblah 09    1000.2GB   RaidSet Member SamSung HD103SJ
    Blahblah 10    1000.2GB     Free                 SamSung HD103SJ
    Blahblah 11    1000.2GB   RaidSet Member SamSung HD103SJ
    Blahblah 12    1000.2GB   RaidSet Member SamSung HD103SJ
(See this earlier thread if you wish!)
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/727867?tstart=0
At one point when I did the checked the browser interface I saw the message Failed and Degraded
As I said, I was able to work over the weekend on the degraded system.
This morning I got the beeping again and did the rescue and now I am running a "full raid" without the notice that one raid was "Free".
In any case, the new hard drive is arriving today.
What steps should I take to incorporate the new drive into the raid system.
    I have one OS drive
and 4 tb raid drives.   One needs to be replaced with the new one that I am getting today.
    Thanks

    Harm,
    Regarding your comment:
Re: How do I remove one failing hard drive from raid set and replace with new one
Please tell me how to read the serial number from an individual drive rather easily, without un-installing them:
If you select the proper drive to change out, you only need to remove one drive and look at its serial number...
Step 1: Identify bad drive serial number using Areca's tools
Step 2: Turn off the computer
Step 3: Remove what you think is the bad drive based on following your numbered cable method, marked hot-swap bays, whatever
Step 4: Verify that the serial number matches the "bad drive" serial number from step 1; if it does great, proceed; if it does not match, go back to step 3
Step 5: Change out the CORRECT drive - that's the bottom line for this whole procedure
    Cheers,
    Jim

  • RV320 SSL VPN ActiveX and Virtual Passage driver on Windows 7 64-bit

    Hi,
My company has just purchased a new RV320 router and only afterwards found out from the release notes that there are issues with the SSL VPN in this unit and other small business routers. Is there any news on when these issues will be fixed?
    1) ActiveX controls have expired certificate dated 24/9/14 - this prevents them from running unless without changing IE security settings to prompt or allow unsigned controls, which is a big security risk.
    2) ActiveX controls do not work on Windows 64-bit. Release notes state Windows 7 IE10 and Windows 8.1 IE11, however they also fail on Windows 7 IE11. Even adding router to Trusted Sites to force 32-bit mode results in error message stating that IE is required for the controls.
    3) Virtual Passage driver will not install - crashes IE10/IE11 with a BEX violation.  From a dig around the web it appears that the Netgear SRX5308 uses the same Cavium chipset and a Virtual Passage driver that works with Windows 7 64-bit, and installs fine using IE10/11 (and if you install the Netgear driver it works with the Cisco RV routers too, proving that the driver is fully compatible...) - if Netgear can get this working, why can't Cisco?
I've only just started setting us this router and show stopper issues like this might end up with an RMA being requested as it appears to be unsuitable for purpose, already run into other issues with I've posted about. :(
EDIT: Got (2) sort of working on IE11 - seems that the Cisco interface is specifically looking for old style IE user agent strings, so using developer tools to set the user agent to IE9, and changing security settings in Trusted Sites to prompt for unsigned controls (due to issue (1)), allows the controls to install and load. These issues are pretty simple to fix, requiring just a string check change and updated signed controls. Fingers crossed these are fixed in the new firmware due soon, awaiting response from Cisco support to my open ticket.
Looks like (3) is prevented from working by (1), and also because the certificate has expired it is treated as software without a valid publisher which cannot be installed in Windows 7 without fiddling in the registry. Releasing an updated version with a certificate that isn't expired should solve that issue too.
These are ridiculously simple fixes to push out, I can't believe a major hardware vendor like Cisco hasn't already solved these issues.

I've had a reply from Cisco support regarding this issue, and it's a bleak outlook. This is a copy from the email I received:
"Engineering has no plans to support SSL VPN on RV32x due to chipset limitations. Pretty much, it will work for old XP and Win7 32-bits."
So Cisco are falsely advertising that the RV320 has SSL VPN capabilities when there are no plans to update it so that it works with 64-bit Windows (which is now the major install base for Windows as most new systems are 64-bit based), and as the certificates have expired in the SSL VPN components they are not even useable on 32-bit systems without overriding a number of security settings.

  • How do I remove USB virtual printer port

Im having some problems printing (see different thread) so I have removed all reference to the printers and drivers (nothing in devices and printers; nothing in print management), Ive removed all USB devices (except the mouse) switched off and removed the
battery for 60 minutes. The restarted.
    Still 3 USB ports
    Ive tried
http://www.ehow.com/how_6688235_delete-usb-virtual-printer-port.html  but I cant see the virtual USB ports in device manager
http://www.ehow.com/how_6910965_delete-usb-printer-port.html  But I cant (unsurprisingly) find the ports in installed programs
http://www.ehow.com/how_5869559_remove-usb-printer-port.htmll  (delete form devices and printers) But when I highlight the port from printer properties and click delete I get "selected port cannot be deleted. The request is not supported
Makes me think these are not properly installed ports.
Ive searched the registry for USB001 and there are 4 USB00? entries all under unknown printer with headings like 6&30e6e7fe&0&USB003. So I tried to deleted all of them. It lest me delete the parameter sub key but I am not allowed to delete the other
    keys (error while deleting key)
So after a bit of a search I came up with psexec (see link for more details and do take backups and read the instructions)
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/56fed319-a532-46a4-a384-fd795998c4a3/regedit-permissions-access-denied-or-error-while-deleting-key-even-as-admin?forum=w7itproinstall
And that allowed me to get rid of the ports from the registry but they were still visible in Devices adn printers under ports (after slecting a device)
So how do I get rid of these wretched ports?
    TFAI

    Hi,
Yes, you could create a new port for other printer. Of course, you also assign it to a different print if you don't use this printer.
    The detailed steps are below:
    1. Click the START button, click navigate to "Control Panel", then navigate to and click on "Printers."
    2. Once the printers window is open, click on "Add a printer" in the dark blue menu bar.
    3. At the "Choose a printer port" section click on the "Create a new port" radio button then select "Standard TCP/IP Port" for the "Type of port."
    4. At the "Type a printer hostname or IP Address" section select "TCP/IP Device" for "Device type" and input the proper hostname depending on the printer that you are installing, the IPs for all of the different departmental printers can be gotten from the
main printer help page on this website.
    5. At the "Type a printer name" section type in what you would like to call the printer under the "Printer name" section, this is entirely up to you. Here you also want to make sure that the driver that it says it will install corresponds with the model
    of printer you are installing.
    6. After the installation you should get a section called "You've successfully added [printername]." Here you should click the "Print a test page" button to make sure everything is installed correctly.

  • How do I remove an unused audio driver?

In my System Preferences under Sound, I have an old device option showing up under Output for "Epson Projector Audio".  It's several years old and stems from a meeting I attended where there was an Epson projector with a wireless display interface.  You had to install software from a USB drive to use it (circa 2010).
Every once in a while, my sound defaults to this and I get no sound output until I go into preferences and change it back.  It also shows up as an input option under sound as well.  There is no "+/-" button to add or remove these drivers in the preferences pane so I am sure I must go and manually remove the files associated with them.  I have searched for any file named Epson*.* but can't find any.
Can someone tell me how to remove these drivers?
    Thanks a million!

  • How do I remove an external hard drive from airport extreme using airport utility 6.2

I want to remove an external drive from my airport extreme but unsure how to do so (apart from just unplugging it). I need to take it away and hopefully plug it back in later. Any advice would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, AirPort Utility 6.2 does not provide you with the option to "unplug" a drive.
If the drive is mounted on your desktop, simply drag its icon to the Trash.....or.....right-click the disk icon and choose the Eject option.
Now you can disconnect the hard drive from the AirPort Extreme.
If the drive does not appear on the desktop, then you can simply physically unplug the drive.

  • How do I remove 33 Virtual Machine Manager Connectors in SCOM?

I am not even making that up. Somehow I have 33 Virtual Machine Manager connectors in SCOM when I look at Internal Connectors. If I delete them all using the SCOM PowerShell cmdlets, they will disappear for a day or so, and then they all come back.
Anyone have an idea what is going on here and how I can get rid of all the extra ones?  I have done everything I can think of and can't seem to get rid of them (I realize there should be one of them).
    MCITP | VCP4 | VCP5

I wasn't around when this was all configured, so I am not sure what it is supposed to look like.  Are you telling me that I should expect to see 33 different VMM connectors in SCOM?  One makes sense, why 33?  And no, I would like
to keep the integration, and just remove all the unneeded connectors.
This is how integrations works and this is by design.

  • "How to partition for an external hard drive for windows and Mac backups"

I have two PCs, Dells, and 1 Macbook Pro.  They are  set up on a wireless network. I would like to set up an external hard drive to backup all three automatically.  Does anyone know how I can do this?  Do I have to partition the external hard drive?

You would need to partition the hard drive using the GUID partition scheme. Your non-Apple machines would need their partitions formatted MS-DOS (FAT) and the Mac partition would have to be formatted Mac OS Extended. Note, however, that using the MS-DOS format may cause some problems with filenames on an NTFS formatted Windows drive.
Now you could use Mac OS Extended formats on all three partitions, but then you would need third-party software on your Windows machines to enable them to read and write a Mac-formatted drive.

  • How do I get files off Mac drive in Windows? (Mac drive is connected to PC)

My iMac became FUBAR about a month ago where when I went to boot it up I was greeted by a question mark over a folder, otherwise indicating my drive was not working. Since I had no warranty left on my iMac, I opened it up and took out the drive and connected it to my PC to see if I could retrieve anything off of it. I was lucky and the drive was somehow still alive and accessible. In Windows I am able to browse the Windows partition I created with BootCamp and copy those files just fine. What I was wondering was how do I go about accessing the Mac partitioned drive to get photos I have stored on there? I am using MacDrive 7 which is suppose to do this but gave me a bunch of folders and I didn't know where to go. Folders I tried accessing said I needed to format the drive in order to explore but that's no good. Any help? I really need these photos.

If you can access the drive using MacDrive, the path to your user home folder is
    <top level>/Users/<your short user name>/
I don't know of any way to access that drive, other than connecting it to another Mac.

  • How do I remove the coffee-cup icon in Windows's frames?

    Hi Java developers!!!
I'd like to know if there's a way I can remove that small icon at the upper-left corner of an AWT Frame that
appears on every window under Windows. As far as I know, there are licensing restrictions that won't let me
distribute any program that use these copyright-protected icons/images in any program unless Sun
explicitly tells me so. Ideas anyone?

    ([email protected])

(Sorry for my bad english, I'm from Costa Rica.)
Ok, let me explain it. Frame.setIconImage() gets rid of the coffee-cup icon in the frame, so that the old icon is
not visible again in the application, thus it's not infringing any Sun-imposed copyrights on it's usage. That works
when the application is run under Windows, and possibly other OSes. However, Windows is my only current
development platform, and I don't know how my application will really look on other OSes, as
Linux/Solaris/MacOS/etc., and I'm actually worried about if other Sun-proprietary icons/images will appear in my
application when opened within these OSes, besides the coffee-cup icon. Should I be worried, or not?
Again, thanks for your quick response!
