How do I restore my itunes library? My computer was restored to factory settings and I couldn't find a restore date that allowed my to get access to all of my files. Now my itunes library is empty minus the songs we've recently purchsed!
MY computer was restored to factory settings. Is there a way to get my previous itunes library back? I don't have an Ipod or other device that I saved my itunes library to.
Restore the media from the backup of the computer.
If it was simply restored via the Windows restore point, no data on the computer should have been affected.
If the computer was formated and Windows re-installed, no data remained on the computer and will have to be added back by the user.

As of Oct 20, 2012, my calendars will not load from my Macbook Pro to my iPod. Tried resetting to factory settings and installing just my work calendar... unsuccessful. Genius at my Apple store tried a DFR (?) type reset... still no calendars. All other functions of the iPod is working fine. Any suggestions?

I want to loan my ipad to my husband for the summer. If I back up my ipad, reset my ipad to its factory settings and then load it on his imac will I be able to get my apps back later?
You can backup your iPad to your computer then after that restore it to its factory default. Your husband will be able to use it like a brand new iPad and when he is done then you can plug it back into your computer and restore it to your backup. Everything should be there for you.

I had to restore my cpu running, windows xp, to the factory settings and my entire itunes library was lost. I uploaded these songs from cd's I owned and then sold these cd's. the version of itunes on my cpu is about five years old, the ipod software needs to be reloaded and the ipod software version is on 7 something. I am worried that if I load the ipod software and download the latest version of itunes that the library will sync the ipod to its content, which is nothing, and I will lose all my prized music. Please advise how I can transfer my music from my ipod to my itunes library under the stated conditions. Thank you for your help
Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay:

Why won't it sync? Are you getting any sort of error message during the sync process? If so what is the exact wording of that error message? If this the computer you normally sync the iPod with?

No need to restore. Just sync. It will erase the current content and replace with the content of the new computer. -
Hi All,
I have had to reset my laptop to factory settings and reinstall iTunes. I backed up all my songs and apps and have now put all songs back in to iTunes. However, now i cannot drag songs or apps from my iTunes to my iPhone.
It only gives me the 'no entry' style icon when i drag it across rather than the 'plus' icon to add items to the iPhone.
Any ideas how to get round this or will i have to clear the phone and start again?

i have 4 ipods on itunes but my computer was running slow so i put windows 7 on it but it wants me to sync my ipod but if i do i will lose all my music on my ipod how do i take my music and send it to my playlist so i can sync myipod so i won't lose any music
Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device. Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.

Hi Jen. My daughter just compleated her nursing program and is now working as a full time nurse. Focus and study hard and soon you will be there too. Now to the problem at hand. I have the same problem. I gave up on it and satisfied myself with my iPod without the upgrade. Reason being I've read so many posts of people having problems after the upgrade. But I'm sure other factors are involved. Nevertheless here is the fix most say works to solve the problem: What ever virus protection you have installed on your computer, disable it. Then try to install the update. After that enable the protection. I had Kaspersky, and it does it's job well. The thinking is, the virus protection is blocking the upgrade. Hope this works. Charlie

My dad has recently gotten a new phone and I got his old one. With his permission I restored it to factory settings and set up the iPhone 4 as a new phone with my apple id. Everything has downloaded fine but I have had many problems with my music. First it was where my phone didnt recognise my apple id, but I figured that out. Then it was where iTunes took one of my albums and split it so all the songs where their own albums. I fixed the album split on iTunes but its still like that on my iPhone. I have looked online everywhere and I still haven't found a solution! I'm getting super frustrated! Does anybody know how to fix this?
No it's not stealing. They have an allowance that you can share with so many computers/devices. You'll have to authorize her computer to play/use anything bought on your acct. You can do this under the Store menu at top when iTunes is open on her computer.
As far as getting it all on her computer....I think but I am not sure (because I don't use the feature) but I think if you turn on Home Sharing in iTunes it may copy the music to her computer. I don't know maybe it just streams it. If nothing else you can sign into your acct on her computer and download it all to her computer from the cloud. Not sure exactly how to go about that, I haven't had to do that yet. I wonder if once you authorize her computer and then set it up for automatic downloads (under Edit>Preferences>Store) if everything would download. Sorry I'm not much help on that. -
so I did the itunes upgrade to 10.5.1 and then teh iphone 4 needed to b e upgraded to new ios5.1 - seemed to go all the way through, and the final restore seemed to fail. Now the phone is no longer recognised as personalised, just as iphone. Also i cannot restore from backup, only restore factory settings and i am warned that I will lose all data. Can I force a restore from back up? can I guaruntee that I can keep data from backups??

If I am understanding you correctly, it sounds like you are returning to an old iPhone that has been erased and you would like to set it up as a new device without restoring from a backup which would affect the name of your iPhone, as well as the contents therein. Basically, it seems like you may be stuck on a screen that is asking if you would like to restore your device from the backup that is filed under the name of your new iPhone, or if you would like to set up the device as a new device. I would suggest that you set it up as a new device to achieve your desired results.

I had all my iTunes music backed up onto a hard drive; but the hard drive was stolen along with all the files I backed up onto it. However, the songs I had in iTunes still show up (I just can't play them.) If I were to use iCloud, would it still take those songs and let me listen to them (and maybe re-download them?) Or am I out of luck?
Open iTunes, go to the iTunes Store, and then go to Purchased on the right hand side under Music Quick Links.
You can re-download all the songs, apps, or books you have previously purchased.
I'm not sure if this is a requirement, but just in case, make sure you download the latest version of iTunes (v10.3) too. -
