How do I return to 9.2 after downgrading to 8.6?

Hi folks.
I have, among others, a beige G3 MT machine. It was doing just fine on 9.2 but for some reason that I can't remember right now, I downgraded to 8.6 as a temporary measure.
In the meantime I shipped my OS9 disk to a buyer of one of my other computers. That's when I discovered that OS9 is not a part of 10.3 and therefore I couldn't upgrade to either 9 or X.
I then purchased a 9.2.1 OS9 disk--white background, gold 9--only to find it wasn't a true install CD; it was meant as an upgrade.
My questions are these: I have a system 9 folder on the desktop of an iMac.
How can I transfer that folder to the beige machine (or is that even a possible way to get OS9 reinstalled? ).
It seems that USB connections with 8.6 aren't possible. Is this true? If it isn't I probably could have solved this problem already, but all my storage devices are either SCSI--too old--or USB/Firewire--too new, at least for this situation.
What's the best way to upgrade the 8.6 to system 9 and then up to OSX--my ultimate goal--and is my 9.2.1 disk useless?
Thanks! Dennis

Hi, Dennis. Yes, your OS 9.2.1 updater disk is useless — you could have downloaded the same updater for free, but as you've discovered, it can only be applied to an already-installed OS 9.1.
OS 9 is not included on any retail (universal) installer disc set for OS 10.2, 10.3 or 10.4 — it's only included on model-specific installer sets. What you need to install OS 9.2.2 on your Beige G3 is a retail OS 9.1 or 9.2.1 full installer CD, plus the downloadable updaters to get (one step at a time) from your starting point to 9.2.2.
Copying the System Folder from your iMac to your Beige probably won't give you a functioning machine, since the iMac installation is tailored to support the iMac's particular hardware components, which are different from those in the Beige.
OS 8.6 supports USB. Your Beige doesn't have any factory USB ports, but perhaps it has a USB adapter card installed, or you can install one now if it doesn't. You will need to install the downloadable USB Adapter Card Support 1.4.1 software to support the card in OS 8.6. If you later upgrade to OS 9.1 or higher, the USB ACS 1.4.1 software will be superseded by more modern USB support software that is included in those OS versions, but afterward you may have to manually trash some of the extensions that were installed by USB ACS 1.4.1.
For loads of additional information about installing USB adapter cards and using USB devices on a Beige G3, and also about installing OS X on it, go to this Discussions area.

  • How can I return back to OSx after installing Lion?

I'm disappointed. After installing Lion, everything is slower. The best thing I had last year was my new MacBook Pro, because everything was fast.. (sleep, opening programs, multitasking...etc) Now, everything takes forever. How can I return back to OSx?

    Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
    1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard. I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.

  • How do I return to my inbox after following a link

I have an iPhone 4s with OS7.1.2. I would like to know how to return to my inbox after viewing a link in an email. Right now the only way I can get back to the inbox is to close out the link without having to close and then reopen my email program. I use Gmail.

You're welcome! It's still a little awkward but I think it's the best way

How do I quickly return to recent mail again after doing a search in Mail?
After I look at an old email I've found and click the "x" next to the search entry field to clear it, I'm returned back to the entire mail box at the point in time of that found email. I then have to scroll all the way to the top to see my recent email. And it could be a loooooong way up.
Is there a quick way to get back to the top? Problem is the same on iPad, too.

  • How to auto return to main menu after track plays

On my main menu I have two buttons. Each accesses a different video asset. But when the user selects one of the videos to play at the end of play I need the user to be returned to the main menu. Currently, at the end of video play the screen just sits on the last frame, which is black, and does not return to the main menu. In the simulator, if I hit the menu button it goes back to the main menu but I would like it to return to the main menu automatically after the video that has been selected is finished playing. I have searched through the DVD SP manual and so far can't find out how to do this. Do I have to write a script for this simple action? Is there a setting that simply makes a target track jump back to the main menu after it plays? Thanks as ever for your excellent advice.

You need to set the end jump for the track... click on the track in the outline or graphical view, look in the property inspector. Near the top there is a drop down for the end jump - use that to set where to go back to... in your case the menu.

  • How do you return to web page after executing servlet?

When I submit some values to my servlet from a page, using a from, how do I get back into the web page directory? When you call the servlet, the url turns to "./servlet", and if I click on submit again, it tries to find "./servlet/servlet" so obviously it kicks up an error.
Basically I want the servlet to accept answers in a form, rebuild that form using the answers submitted, and go back to that rebuild. Hopefully, the user shouldn't notice anything changing, which is the idea, excepth his/her answers have been stored by the servlet.
ANY help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Miles

Could you briefly explain how this works joshman. Are you saying use send.redirect or something else I have not found? if so, could you elborate a bit (some method names would be usefull too). I have no idea about headers, which probably doesn't help.
The problem is I either have to out.println the modified html (with the answers in the values in the input tags), which means I must get the web server to look in the directory where the original page came from, otherwise pictures and other stuff dont show. Then just outputting the html would be as if the original html file was given with inserted values.
    OR
I have to save modified html files in the same directory under different names, give these to the client and delete them after a while to save spacew. I'd rather not have to do this as it complicates stuff.
    Cheers again.

  • How can I return to login screen after screensaver??

I am trying to set up my Parents new Mac like their old Windows XP machine. When the Windows PC sat idle it went to screensaver and if the mouse was moved it returned to the login screen with their user icons.
On the Mac the option under Security "Require password after screensaver" will bring up a password prompt for the user who is currently logged in with a "Switch User" button.
Hitting that "Switch User" button will bring me to the login screen with the list of users and their icons. Does anyone know of a way where it will bypass prompting for a password and goto the login screen without hitting the "Switch Users" button?

it's possible but what's wrong with hitting "switch user"? that's really the easiest. anything else will require extra work. see this link

  • How can i return to getting sound after pressing panic button?

I pressed the panic button after setting up my layout, and I had everything set up the way I wanted it (volume included). The volume then disappeared and no sound appears after I pressed the panic button. I've tried remapping everything but I had no luck. Please help me.

Unfortunately it does happen sometimes. I'm still trying to solve the same problem. Panic is assigned to a button on my controller and it usually works correctly, but sometimes during a live performance when I get a stuck note, the panic button kills the plugin completely. It happens mainly with Vintage B3 and E. Piano, but it has also happened with Ivory II. This never happened with MS 2. Panic is supposed to reset MDI and the audio engine, according to MS 3 help. Maybe it's a bug, or maybe my older machine isn't fast enough. I'm using a mid-2010 Mac Mini 2.6 with 16GB RAM and two 500GB 7200 rpm drives running the OSX 10.9.2 and MS 3.0.3. Any ideas, CCTM or Blueberry?

  • HT4623 How do I return to iOS 6 after iOS 7 install has failed?

I attempted to update my iPhone 4s last night via iTunes on my Mac.  I backed up my iPhone 4s via iTunes. iTunes prompted me that it needed to be updated which I did. Then I proceeded to update my iPhone and iTunes made another back up of the iPhone.  The download failed a few times but eventually completed.  Eventually the update was proceeding and then I got a message stating the update failed for a unknown reason.  Currently the iPhone is unusable and shows the iTune + iPhone or connect to iTunes picture and iTunes give this message ... "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3014)."  I tried multiple scenarios from Apple Support Communities and nothing has worked.

I used a another Mac with the previous version of iTunes to attempt a recovery and it seemed like it was working and then it gave me "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build."  When I look this up it points to a similar and potentially related issue with conneting to the gs.apple.com server.  Is there a diagnostic tool that can confirm this?

  • Stop return of unused material after TECO

    Hi All,
Can anyone tell me how to restrict return of unused material after TECO???
    Thanks in advance...

    Hi,
I think it is possible. Create a specific user status that will be activated by setting system status TECO. Also create a specific status profile if necessary containg the user status and link it to the proper order type. For the user status you can disallow business transaction "goods movement".  Beware: all goods movement transactions are blocked!

Regarding Mail:  When I return to my computer after it has gone to sleep, my accounts go offline, and are always asking me for the password.  THis is very annoying.  How can I prevent this?

    Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select Change Settings for Keychain "login". In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
If the box marked Keep login keychain unlocked is not checked, check it.
    Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.

  • How to return a html repsonse after form guide rendering in browser?

How to return a html repsonse after form guide rendering in browser indicating that server has recieved transmission and request is submitted succesfuly?
I am rendering the form guide in browser using guide invoke service and when i submit the data in browser to server through guide , it is displaying some random number in browser?
i need to display a resposne that request is submitted successfully?

how could i define a variable with "html data" ?
Create a variable of type document and then a service to read the html from where ever it's located. If you put it in LiveCycle, you can use the ReadRessource service. If it's on the file system, you can use the Read Document. If it's in the database, you can use the JDBC service.
Also, one more doubt where should i use this variable in my process to get the same?
You want the response once you've submitted the data, so the html is really the result of calling the process that's processing the data. So I would create an output variable of type document on that process.
Right now it displays a random number in the browser because your submit process is long lived. When a process is long lived (asynchronous), you invoke it and then you get an identifier back. It's kind of a fire and forget. You can use that identifier to check the status of the long lived process, since long lived processes can take hours, days to complete. You don't want your browser to wait that long, hence the identifier.
However if you change the process to be short lived (synchronous), the browser will wait for the result of the process, which really means the output variables for that process. If your output variable contains html, it'll display html.
So the key is make you submit process short lived and populate the output variables appropriately.
